Receiver for EXP with Collar Strap

Tri-Tronics Expandable Receiver with Blue Collar StrapI would completely ignore the other review of this collar. It is a completely ignorant comment from someone who hasn't done their homework on how to train with an E collar or use the very simple instructions on how to program an extra collar to a multi dog transmitter.

To give you some background information I have 3 dogs, and I use this product on two of them. One is a 85lb red nosed doberman and the other is a 80lb german shepherd. We've had the doberman for 2 1/2 years now and we're her 3rd home. We rescued her and didn't notice the neurotic behavior problems at first but they became very problematic after a month or so. Our German Shepherd is a great dog, very obedient until you put a small animal in front of him, he's 2 and since hitting 1 year old his prey drive has really kicked in... We own 4 cats, he used to sleep with them and play with no problems, until we moved to a new house and a pack change occurred and he seemed to take "ownership" of the cats in the new environment... This resulted in chasing and cornering the cats which caused some unhealthy stress reactions in the cats...

Now on to the actual review: This is one tough collar, I wouldn't recommend it for small dogs as it does have some weight to it. I would highly recommend the LEERBURG training video or a consultation from a trainer versed in E collar use. My wife and I used a trainer prior to using the E collar and that greatly improved the obedience of our dogs but between the neurosis and the prey drive of our two dogs this collar bridged the gap! The collar took a few attempts to connect to the transmitter following the instructions, but it's an easy task. The collar is much better than $100 economy 1 dog collar transmitter that we started with... It recharges in 2 hours, contains batteries that have no "Memory" so the standard of fully charging and fully depleting the battery is not necessary. It will fully charge in 2 hours and i've had it on my dogs for upwards of 3 days with intermittent use before having to recharge. This collar packs a punch, it goes up to a setting of 6 and i've never had to go higher than 4 with my GSD in a full prey response going after one of our cats. I've tested it on my arm and when I nicked myself at a setting of 5 my forearm fully cramped up and had a pretty good shock.

The only reason I didn't give this unit a 5 star rating was the fact that the tone that it gives off is fairly quiet when compared to the "economy" model we used previously. But with proper training and getting the dog to respond to our voice commands this should not be a problem and should make us train in a more correct manner anyways...

I use this everyday on my American Pittbull Terrier (35lbs). Starting to get her to walk off leash which is the main reason I purchased it. I also use another one together with my small Caviler King Charles Spaniel (16lbs). Battery life is amazing. Signal distance is plenty good. Only one complaint is that for smaller dogs or dogs with smaller necks the strap is extremely long and it is difficult but possible to cut. All and all I would buy it again.

This collar works great. I bought a Tri-tronics electronic transmitter. You can control 3 dogs with this one unit. This particular collar is red so you always know which dog to correct just by changing the dial to the specific colored collar.

I am happy with this product. I docked the product one star because for this price, it should come with its own charger. I purchased this receiver as an add-on to my original purchase of the Tri-Tronics Sport Basic set. I can't charge both receivers at the same time because I only have the one charger--which is frustrating when you have two dogs.

I have two Akitas who are very head strong and independent. Both have a habit of chasing deer so I need something that will call them back when I call. These collars work very well and I would recommend them to anyone with a independent dog.
