I bought this unit because I didn't want it to sound like a police or referee's high-pitched (shrill) whistle in the setting I was going to use it. And, as long as you don't blow extra hard, you defintely get a lower tone as compared to other units (as it says in the description). And it's loud even if you blow gently.
