I had never used one before but was advised that it may be necessary. I purchased it as a back-up and was happy to have it on hand.
This is a grest quality muzzle, but... make sure you are buying a correct size. I got size 6 and it is quite small, only fits my 42 lbs husky with a slim face. I had to buy bigger sizes for my other dogs. other than that BEST quality by far!!

WHEN I ORDERED THIS ITEM IT ADVERTISED AS A SIZE 8 WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO FIT MY DOG. I COULD NOT EVEN GET THE COLLAR ON AT ALL IT WAS A THOUSAND SIZES TOO SMALL YET TOO BIG FOR MY SMALLER DOG. IT IS COMPLETELY USELESS AND UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE WAITED TOO LONG TO RETURN IT.
