Cardinal Laboratories Pet Botanics Training Rewards Treats, Beef 20 Ounces

Cardinal Laboratories Pet Botanics Training Rewards Treats, Beef 20 OuncesMy dogs (2 Dachshunds, a Chihuahua and a French Bulldog) love these Cardinal Laboratories Pet Botanics Training Rewards beef and brown rice flavor, and their size (1/4 of an inch in diameter and 3/8 of an inch tall; a tad bit smaller around than a dime see customer image I uploaded) in conjunction with their consistency (neither too moist, nor crumbly) makes them ideal for keeping in your pockets so that they are readily accessible when training your dog.

The primary ingredient is Pork Liver (beef is actually 12th on the list see below). Pork Liver is a nutrient-rich organ which provides your dog with protein, fat and vitamin A. It is also a good source of copper, iron, niacin, phosphorus and zinc. It provides many B vitamins, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and essential amino acids. Liver is of great benefit to your dog's health when offered in moderation (too much can lead to a condition called hypervitaminosis A, or an overdose of vitamin A). These little treats are a great way to add the benefits of liver to your dog's diet.

They are also great for crate training, too. Just give them to your dog through the crate door as soon as you put them in and eventually they will associate something good with being crated. Soon enough you can just toss 2 or 3 in the crate when you need to crate them and they will happily go right in. My dogs have their own room that their crates are in. When I open the door to their room they run and get in the crates sometimes quicker than I can put their training rewards in.

INGREDIENTS: Pork Liver, Pea Flour, Glycerin, Dried Egg, Pearled Barley, Brown Rice, Barley Flour, Tapioca Flour, Gelatin, Pea Protein, Salmon Oil, Beef, Sweet Potato Flour, Potato Flour, Phosphoric Acid, Natural Smoke Flavor, Flax Seed, Salt, Lecithin, Molasses, Chicken Fat preserved with Mixed Tocopherols, Potassium Sorbate, Garlic, Mustard, Iron Oxide (for color), Carrots, Natural Chicken Flavor, Mixed Tocopherols, Cranberry, Peppermint, Chamomile, Rosemary, Dandelion, Tomato, Blueberry

FYI According to the manufacturer's website and also the product packaging, these training rewards are MADE IN THE USA, have only 3 calories per treat, and contain neither soy, corn, nor BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin (artificial preservatives).

I have a very picky German Shepherd, but (thankfully) these caught her pallet. Nothing against the product itself but it is $5 cheaper at our local big box pet supply retailer. I am as lazy as they come and it would be nice if the price here matched the price at the retailer so I didn't physically have to go there (sad, I know).

I'm not too proud to admit I ripped the bag open and MY mouth started watering. I kind of have the feeling I'm going to catch the kids munching on them someday, and that doesn't worry me. I'm not saying I'm curious enough to sample a few, but if a major food shortage strikes without warning I won't hesitate to grab a bag and head for the hills. Oh yeah, the dog loves them too. ;)

EDIT: It didn't take long, I did indeed catch my 2 year old chowing down on a mouth full. They smell like Slim Jims so it was only a matter of time before I....

Smells are deceiving, I rate them a 2/5, but the pup still loves them. :)

These are some of the best training treats I have found. They are small, and fairly soft, so they make for a quick reward. I even break them into smaller bites most of the time. They are quite strong smelling, and my dog LOVES them. I highly recommend them.

I REALLY like these small, soft treats. They have Pork Liver, Barley Flour, and Whole Ground Potatoes as the first three ingredients, and they don't have BHA, BHT, soy and corn. In addition they are made in the USA which is good because I won't buy any food/treats from overseas.

Taste:::

My puppies' (and the cat) love them and unlike other treats they never get tired of them. In fact, there's something so attractive about the smoky smell that I'm now crumbling these into their regular pup-chow so that the odor is spread around.

Training:::

From my prospective they are great not only because my dogs love them, but because they are small so I can reward frequently. Also, they don't make a mess in my pocket. I've tried a variety of treats and while there are hard varieties that hold up well in the pocket, my pups get tired of them quickly.

The only downside I've found thus far, is that they make my pockets smell.
