I've read hundreds of reviews on line about other crates and some terrifying ones about wires coming loose and puncturing doggy faces and paws. I read no such review w/ this one. I looked at every crate at several PetSmarts (they don't have a store brand of crates like Petco did) and at other pet supply stores in the area. They all felt shoddier than this. THIS IS BY FAR THE STURDIEST AND SAFEST WIRE CRATE/CAGE I COULD FIND, and my dog usually will go right in when I tell him to, despite his crate aggression (he'll grumble and growl as I shut and lock it sometimes).
I never used the divider that came with it, but I guess if you have a teeny puppy you can use it. It is small enough that my lanky-yet-under-7lb pomeranian won't go potty inside of it, no matter how long I leave him in there (I've had to work 13 hours one day when he was around 9 months old and he lost bladder control as soon as I came home and let him out, but he held it while inside.
Note on how this helped w/ Potty Training:
I got my pup just before he turned 5 mos, and started the training by leaving him in the crate sporadically during the day while I was home, and making him sleep in it nightly, locked, so he won't pee on the floor at night. Then, when I was ready to start working, I left him in it alone for 2 or 3 hours the 1st day. I just went out and ran a couple errands and came back to a fresh little poopie on one side, and him sitting pressed against the other side. I told him it's "bad!" and took him outside immediately to use the bathroom. I cleaned & sanitized it, the next day I left him in there for 5 hours while I busied myself outside of the house. I came back to no mess at all. The 3rd day, I left him for 6 hours, then for 7, and worked up to 8-10 hours.
He is 1.5 yrs old now and still isn't perfect and will pee/poop in tile floors in unoccupied rooms if not taken out on schedule, but it's better than cleaning up excrements daily.I have four other brands of dog cages and this one is by far the best by virtue of the fact it has two latches on each door, not one. I have a dog who can open single-latch cages, so a double latch cage is a huge plus for us. The cage has no rough or unfinished edges and has carry handles on the top, useful since I have to move the puppy's cage at night. It is not too heavy for me to carry by myself in the 24" x 19" size. My puppy loves being in the cage and finds it very comfortable to retreat to when he wants a nap or quiet time away from the other dogs.
I recommend this cage to anyone looking for a solid and exceptionally secure cage for a dog.
