We have plenty of game on my land (deer, fox, bears, skunks etc) and I was concerned he would run off and get injured/sprayed etc.
The first day, after two or three nicks from the device at 1/2 power, he learned not to wander too far without permission!
We use the non-nicking vibrate warning it provides; that alone gets his attention.
After a week; we have a dog that will run and play off the leash but not run away as he had many times when we first got him.
Before this device, we could only use a leash and if he wanted to run he was powerful enough to yank you to the ground! Now he can play and he has a well behaved personality. I like the 1/2 mile range as this dog is fast! If he did run off I know I have a good amount of distance to get him to feel the nick and get back.
Just trim the collar as they give you enough length that you may not need that much. I am not sure why the power range runs some zero to 127; you just have to recall what 1/4 power; 1/2 power 2/3 and full are by doing some quick math. That is not enough of an issue to take away from all the benefits of the device. It also comes in a sturdy case for storing the manual; charger and collar/device.
