Easy Walk Harness - Small/Medium, Black

Easy Walk Harness - Small/Medium, BlackI bought this for my second dog, a 40-lb Border Collie. She's much smaller than my 54-lb BC/Cattle Dog mix, but larger than what I'd anticipated for a "Small." It turns out that the Small/Medium is likewise too small, so I ended up with a Medium.

Therein lies my main complaint with the Easy Walk Harness. Premier needs to look at the adjustments offered by their Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large harnesses. The Small/Medium, Medium/Large sizes should offer those in-between sizes a bit more adjustment. As it is, the Small/Medium is much more of a Small than a Medium.

That said, I do advocate the Easy Walk harness for people who find that their dogs pull them. By placing the leash attachment ring to the front of the dog, the harness avoids the oppositional reflex that makes dogs move in the exact opposite direction you'd like them to move (i.e. when you pull back, your dog surges forward; when you pull forward, your dog hangs back). Ideally, you will wish to find the services of a good trainer (one who understands positive, reward-based training), who can teach you and your dog how to walk on a loose leash. And, in fact, since dogs don't train themselves, if you haven't trained a dog, you really should get some top-quality professional help. You will have a much better relationship with your dog.

Until that time, though, you can use the Easy Walk Harness, and you can feel confident that your dog won't pull you down the street!

Okay, it didn't literally save our lives, but, in January, we got a rescue dog from the shelter that was a terrier mix and everytime we tried to walk her with a conventional lease, she yanked and pulled until our arms were sore. We tried teaching her to heel, sit, stay, all that, but it didn't matter she still would keep pulling and we were afraid we were going to break her neck. A dog trainer recommended this product and it instantly worked for us (after we sorted out sizing issues we had to get an in-betweener (small/medium) which Petco didn't carry). Our dog walks with us, not against us, now and we can now have a pleasant experience when we do walk her. Don't know if it will work this well for everyone, but this was our experience.

Neither my husband nor I could open the "quick snap buckles" on this harness, so it is useless to us. We are physically fit with no disabilities. Don't order it unless you have exceptionally strong fingers that can squeeze with great force.

The harness broke after our first outting. It does not stay in place. My dog still pulled like crazy on walks.

Our golden retriever puppy pulled on the leash constantly. We tried a StarMark Collar (recommended by the Monks of New Skete), but it made no difference.

I talked with Martina Contreras, a dog behaviorist, about the problem. She recommended the Premier Easy Walk Dog Harness (Amazon product number B0009ZBKG4). It instantly and dramatically reduced the amount and force of pulling on the leash. When we first got the Premier Harness, our dog did not like it, but after two days, when we say "walk," she runs to the harness and sits for us to put it on. We did not train our pup to do this; she just likes the harness.

It took me a few tries of putting the harness on wrong before I understood a simple way to put the harness on easily, so now it goes on in a snap. I recommend the Premier harness for any owner with a dog that pulls.
