I have also seen this used on dogs with sensitive skin who are irritated by choke and pinch collars.
I bought my collar for an obedience class that required a "training" collar and was unsure whether this qualified. For anyone who's here for the same reason: yes, this is a training collar and should be acceptable for your class.The Martingale collar is an enormous improvement over standard choke collars.I've been training dogs with these for decades and they simply trump old fashioned choke and pinch collars in every way.Renowned dog trainer Justin Silver, uses them exclusively as seen in the new television show "Dogs In The City"
What makes the Martingale so effective and safe is that a sharp correction is never needed. There's no need to "snap" the leash as you would with your standard choke collar. Instead, a simple and quick tug and release tightens the collar around the entire circumference and immediately releases but unlike metal choke collars the correction is minimal, it wont vary and it releases right away.
We have Old English Bulldogs, stubborn by nature and resistant to being "Bullied" pun intended.Working with our 7 month old puppy has been a breeze and the Martingale has proven itself once again an essential tool.
BENFITS:
* Gentle and effective
* Safe you can't damage neck muscle or worse, vertebrae as does happen with choke and pinch collars
* Dogs most any size response faster to training with a Martingale
Important to note you must use a standard six foot training lead. Never a retractable leash. Retractable leashes have their place and I'm a huge fan of the German made Flexi. However they aren't intended for training nor training exercises.This Martingale collar is well made, adjustable via a high quality plastic buckle mechanism, the metal chain and hoop are high polish chrome and well finished. So they never snag or stop, the movement is always smooth and effortless.
The nylon collar is waterproof and wears like iron. An excellent collar, well worth the very affordable price.

I have a Basenji who can pull a Houdini act and shake off a harness in a few seconds flat. It was recommended that I buy a martingale collar to prevent her from slipping out of the harness. I recommend this style and brand. Incredibly easy to put on and works just fine. I definitely recommend this collar.Read Best Reviews of Guardian Martingale Pet Collar - Black Here
I have been looing for a collar like this for a long time. My Bulldog has a big head so a couldn't find the right size until a got this collor. An d it was a great price. Well-made martingale color, with chain so moving part does not wear out. The nylon is very tough, and can be washed (by hand, of course) with detergent. These collars prevent slip out of head while walking, but should never be used for tie-out or as a permanent collar (choking/hanging danger). They work best if sized for higher on neck, above the collar with ID tags. Price very reasonable for the quality.
