There is a bit of a learning curve, and it doesn't come with instructions, but I played with this for an afternoon and watched a couple of You Tube videos, and figured it out. One piece of advice worth considering from a more experienced user is to get proficient with this before you start training your dog to it, otherwise you both will get frustrated.

Can't wait to start training, but I need some more practice first.

Had a hard time finding one made of metal, works great. I prefer the plastic in cold weather, but the metal makes a better sound.
