My dog has access to both indoors and outdoors when I'm at work and he used to bark at squirrels, etc to the point where even when the squirrel had left the yard he'd keep barking. Needless to say the neighbors were annoyed, but I couldn't bear to keep him locked in the house all day. This collar is great because it won't go off from background noise, and it only shocks the dog when he has been repeatedly barking. Even if he barks once or twice, or gives a low growl or whine it won't shock him. Some people claim that this type of collar will traumitize the dog forever, but my dog has adapted to it very well. He knows he can bark occasionally but that he's not allowed to bark nonstop. The collar has not stopped him from normal occasional barking to alert me like any normal dog. It just stops the unwanted and unnecessary excessive barking over invisible animals. I've also shocked myself with the collar and it really isn't so bad. Certainly enough to startle anyone, but I think some people imagine it to be more like a taser and it is definitely not.

I work with a local rescue and I am a dog foster mom I've had over 35 foster dogs and Nixon was a first for me. I've never had a deaf dog or one with such anxiety. After the first night I knew I was going to need some extra help with his barking and anxiety. With the help of some meds and this collar he has become a wonderful, calm dog. It only took a couple of continuous barks for him to get the point. He only wears the collar during the day when we are not home. He has been such a good boy we've adopted him ourselves. I only use the second setting for Nixon and he weighs 65 pounds. He still tests it but when he feels the vibration he stops.
