Buy Premier ECO Gentle Leader Head Dog Collar Now
I bought one of these collars for our 45lb Shepherd mix (Nika) by recommendation of a friend. Nika has had barking issues in the past and had to use a muzzle for a period of time for that reason, and so didn't seem to mind the head-style collar too much from the very beginning. I introduced her to it and slid it on her nose with almost no reaction whatsoever. After she let me fasten it on, I gave her some treats and took it back off. A few minutes later, I repeated the action until I was sure that she wasn't bothered by the device. This evening, my 4-year old daughter and I took Nika for a 2/3-mile walk for the first time with the Gentle Leader. There was a bit of adjustment needed in using this collar, both on my end and Nika's, but the collar WORKS. Not only did I have the easiest walk I've ever had with Nika on a leash (Nika is notorious with our neighborhood dog-walkers for excessive pulling and stubbornly stopping when she smells something interesting), but my daughter (who is significantly outweighed by the dog) was able to walk Nika by herself with no trouble at all. Nika did try to take the collar off a few times, but once she was distracted from it and walking again, there was no issue whatsoever. Today being the first day we have had the collar, I am pleased and a little surprised to report that Nika has already become comfortable enough wearing the collar, that she almost completely ignores it. She has no trouble eating, drinking, or barking with it on, nor does she experience any discomfort from it. The slightest tension on the leash now gets her attention. This collar is so easy to use, once it's fitted properly, I would even recommend it to my elderly parents for walking their unruly dogs.My only comment on the product: watch the instructional DVD that comes with this collar so that a) you know how to fit the collar to your dog and b) you know exactly how to use this type of lead, once fitted. Fitting it correctly makes all the difference in the world and you may need to reevaluate your old walking habits before setting out with your dog.
This is hands down the best money I've ever spent on a pet training product.

I was already a fan of the Gentle Leader. My retriever used to be very difficult to walk, he would pull, jump and could drag me down to the ground when using choke chain type collars or a harness. A couple years ago a friend recommended the original Gentle Leader collar and it really worked great, but my dog disliked the original Gentle Leader--he'd regularly try to jump and paw it off his face during the walk and I felt it could leave a mark on his face. Well, I was excited to find the Eco version of the Gentle Leader. First off, the material is softer and I think leaves less (not entirely gone) of a circular mark on my dog's face. Also, my dog does not try to paw off the Eco version. In fact, with the original version, he'd shake his head back and forth so I had trouble getting it on his face even though he loves walks, but the Eco version, he shook his head like normal the first time I put it on him, but after that he lets me put it on his face no problem! To me, this is proof that he definitely likes the Eco version better. If you are deciding between the Eco or the Original, based on my experiences with both, I'd definitely choose the Eco.This is the second ECO Gentle Leader that I've purchased. Our puppy chewed through the first before she had been trained I expect this one should last us her lifetime (if not longer). The material is softer than I'd expected most of these type of head-collars tend to chafe around the dog's nose, rubbing the fur (off, in some cases) but with this one you can barely tell the dog has had anything on moments after it's been removed. The concept of the GL is brilliant, and has worked consistently with all three of our dogs I've been using GLs for over 13 years. The ECO is a wonderful, environmentally friendly upgrade to this product it even comes in a recyclable cardboard box instead of plastic!
