So have used the 50ft leash for years.
It allows that my space vs your space kind of walk with the ability to go from 1ft to 50 ft. It provides me to be in control of my dog at all times, yet still have running room.
In the Spring in the rain, Summer in the heat and our month at the beach in Maine, then fall with crisp leaves and thistles, and finally onto our long cold snowy winters. It works in all seasons, all weather and with no problems, no breaking, all good.
Rope burn-have you every used just rope or a cheap 1/inch leash and your 110lb Akita sees a squirel??? rope burn will be a fact of life. A fact right done to the bone on your fingers, a fact I learned very painfully. Not so with this product you and your dog will be fine and happy on those walks, runs or even training exercises. I add training last as Akita's though big and beautiful do not do training-they give you that if you wanted to train something why not get a lab or golden look. I high recommend this leash. It is not just a leash but a great safe-smart-start for the good times with your dog.
So if you want to have a great leash for your great "dog" times then buy this leash.I had been using a 50 foot cotton leash to exercise and play with my large breed dogs up until a few weeks back when the leash snapped. Unfortunately 5/8th cotton still seems to be the standard for most of the longer leashes I've seen locally or online, so I was thrilled to finally find a wider alternative made from a more durable material. I've gotten a chance to use this leash a lot the past few weeks and I am happy to say it doesn't seem to get tangled (or knotted) like my previous cotton leash was prone to. Needless to say I am very happy with my purchase and wish I'd seen found this when I was originally in the market for a long leash!I purchased this 50' leash because I have a rescued Bernese Mountain Dog who would not 'go potty' while on lead. She is skittish and at approx. 5 years old has just been introduced to leash and collar. I thought maybe she just didn't want to 'go' with me so close to her. With this leash, she is able to go far away from me and do her business. It was working for her after only two trips outside. However, to those who have a skittish dog, be aware that the length drags on the ground of course, and makes lots of noise, especially when dry leaves are on the ground. Our first trip outside didn't go well because of this, but she got used to it fairly quickly with lots of reassurance. As another reviewer said, it would be too heavy for a small dog. My BMD weighs almost 80 pounds. It is very sturdy, very visible and I highly recommend it for larger dogs for use in regular walks in open spaces and for training.I was hesitant at first to get such a long leash especially w/it being non-retractable but I have to say I'm very satisfied with it. It's great to use with my 20lb dog (although it may be overkill since the hook and leash is very heavy duty) as she runs after balls in an open field. This is a nice trade off to give her some sense of freedom since it's recommended for her breed to never be let off leash. The leash does drag on the grass but the material is smooth and doesn't stiffen up. I've been able to choke down on the leash with her tugging and haven't had any issues with it tearing up my hands either. Very satisfied with this purchase. So I've had this leash for a few months now. It sits outside 24/7 tied to a post out front. The leash has held tight and strong. I have a large black lab, but she isn't a huge puller.
The only thing I want to point out is, if you leave this outside in the sun, it will fade. And fade fairly fast. It has turned a light faded orange. Almost white in spots. The color does not really mater to me, but I wanted to point this out in a review in case it maters to someone.
