These collars, which are very safe, are also called choke collars. They are soft, provide good, immediate control without pain when you have to quickly correct your dog, then slip to a looser position (hence the name) as soon as you slacken the lead. NEVER, EVER USE THE CHAIN CHOKE COLLAR, EVEN ON SHORT HAIRED DOGS. IF IT IS ON BACKWARDS, OR IF ONE LINK TURNS, AND YOU DO NOT SEE IT, THE WHOLE COLLAR WILL QUICKLY BECOME EMBEDDED IN THE DOG'S NECK, CUTTING OFF AIR, AND CAN CAUSE DEATH. At the very least, it will cost you a vet visit to remove the collar from the lacerated skin and blood in your dog's neck.

I raise and show Collies. No marks, or indentations can be on their fur from any collar. It is used as their regular collar with tags, and I use one without tags for training. Regular buckle collars mar the look of the fur in the show ring, and just visually. This collar lays flat under the fur. I am buying 2 more in a larger size for one of my other Collies.

I volunteer with a dog rescue group and we use this collar as a secondary collar at adoption events and pack walks. I am not happy nor displeased with this choker, although it does run a little large in size....even if it's put on properly,it feels as if it wants to slide off the dogs head, more so then your typical chain or rope choker....only positive is it doesn't pull the dogs hair or turn the coat grey like a choker chain......I'll keep shopping around for another one

Large Pet Dog Play Pen By 46L" X 46W" X 31H" Zipped Bottom Panel

I ordered this product to help us train our new Yorkie pups. The pen seems to be well constructed and well thought out, with one exception. While the top is affixed to the pen with a 360 degree zipper and is thus securely attached at its circumference, the bottom is attached with Velcro.

The problem is that the Velcro does not secure the bottom completely around the pen; the bottom's attached by 8 small (approximately 1" x 1") Velcro pads, one on each side (not corner) of the pen. This leaves an unsecured `flap' at each corner of the pen, which allows the pups to get at the carpeting on which the pen rests; this, to some degree, defeats the purpose of the pen.

I think I can fix this with some more Velcro, but why should I have to? Had the manufacturer used a zipper on the bottom as they did on the top this would not be an issue.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

I was recently contacted by the manufacturer and was informed that they had improved the product by adding a zipper to the bottom panel. This improvement makes this a 5-star product.

FURTHERMORE, they shipped me the updated product AT NO CHARGE. They didn't even ask me to return the original.

This is outstanding service, especially given that I had never contacted them to complain about the product in the first place they came to me based on my review! Companies like this deserve our fullest support; I hope folks reading this review reward them by purchasing their product.

Have a small, older dog who was feeling anxious when left home alone. Started having accidents. Set up his food, water, and blankets in the pen. Left the door unzipped and he started going in by himself to eat and nap. We call the pen Jake's apartment :). He's now feeling safe and comfortable. Much better than a small kennel. I am impressed with the strength of the velcro bottom. It's secure enough not to separate so he can't get out. Product is sturdy, yet easy to disassemble if we want to move it to another room. Zippered top makes it easy to get to his food and water dishes so no one has to go through the doggie door. Smartly made. Fantastic product. Great price. Thank you.

3 barking yorkies and camping don't alwats mix when fellow paw friends walk by. This pet playpen made a world of difference. Decrease the barking almost 95%. Love the easy pop out! This product is made of high quality materials. We purchased the item for our 10 week old Chihuahua, since he was getting into all sorts of mischief. He is very content in the pen and enjoys the ability to play and run around without being in his crate. The pen is large enough for his crate and PeePee Pad Holder. The only drawback has been stated before is that there isn't enough velcro to hold the bottom in. The first time we placed him in it, he discovered the edge and pulled it back. He hasn't figured out that if he crawls under the other flap he can be out...but it will be a matter of time. I am going to add additional velcro to insure there are no "escapes".

After a modification, snaps every foot around the edge of the floormat, it works great as a travel playpen for my daughter. A lot easier to use and more space to play than a normal playpen. The mesh is larger holes so bees don't get in, but smaller bugs can. Just goes to show that you can find a reasonable childs outdoor playyard. Just got to know to look at pet yards too.

I bought this carrier for my tom cat who weighs about 20lbs. If you are buying this to accommodate a larger/heavier pet, BE WARNED: the crate will FLEX under their weight. On several occasions, this actually caused the door to open and my cat literally fell out into a parking lot. On the final occasion of using this crate, it flexed and the carry handle on top simply popped out of place. I was at the top of a staircase when this occurred. Can you guess what happened? Yes, my cat, in his carrier, was tossed helplessly end over end down a flight of stairs because this crate does not actually hold up for heavier pets. I am also writing a letter directly to the company to alert them to this flaw in design.

This is an awesome carrier at an awesome price! Super easy to put together, and super sturdy. I haven't experienced the flimsiness with the door and having to bend the plastic that one of the other reviewers mentioned. Everything fits together very smoothly, and it's very roomy inside. The colors are very nice and it looks way more expensive than it was. My puppy is learning to like it, too.

One thing I will say is pay attention to the sizing. It says large, but they recommend use for dogs (or cats) under 25 lbs, so I wouldn't call it large and I wouldn't get it if you have a large breed puppy. It's fine for my puppy though, she has more than enough room and space to grow so it works for me!

Also, I highly recommend [..](who seem to be the only ones selling this for such a good price, but order it from Amazon because I think it's more expensive on their website last I checked!) I've made 3 orders from them now, including the one for this carrier, and they always have the lowest prices! The shipping is very fast too.

When researching a new crate for our Chinese Crested, I decided on the Petmate Kennel Cab. I checked all the sizing information (as clearly stated on the Amazon website) and chose accordingly. It fit our dog perfectly. It's not the sturdiest of kennels, but we only needed it for home use and not travel, so this is fine. It would have been a 5-Star review if I felt completely comfortable transporting our dog in it, in case we needed to travel with it.

I am so tired of reading poor reviews of products that people write when it's their own fault the product didn't work for them. Yes, this is called a large. Is it very large? No. But the dimensions are listed. Learn to research before buying and stop blaming the companies. It's your own responsibility to spend your money wisely.

Bought this crate at Petsmart, and after assembly, put my 5 lb puppy in and the bottom opened up and my puppy hit the floor. She limped the rest of the day. We again latched it, without our puppy inside, and it seems to latch, but when picked up, it comes apart again. The latches are defective. I contacted Petmate, told them of the problem, and sent pictures of the taxi and how the latches were not working. All they offered was nothing. Again I contacted them and they offered to send new latches. I explained this was a NEW taxi and thought they could do better than that, since Petsmart was out of them. They finally said they would send a new one to me if I provided them with a copy of my receipt and address. I did immediately because we bought this taxi for an upcoming trip and need it now. That was almost a week ago and I still have not heard anything from them. I called yesterday and left a message, and no call back. I would never again buy from this company. They have no customer satisfaction and their products are sub-standard. They were also unconcerned about the condition of my puppy. So if you care about your pet, buy from a different company and let Petsmart know about Petmate's customer satisfaction, or lack of!

UPDATE:

After filing a complaint with the BBB, I was contacted by Petmate and they are sending me a new taxi. Guess they don't like being turned in to the BBB. Now, will wait and see if I DO receive it, but I need it by Nov. 1 for a trip, and they say it will take 3 to 5 business days for it to get here, which will be too late? You'd think after contacting them weeks ago, and explaining my problem, they would overnight it. So, again, if you want a good pet taxi, built by a company who stands by their product, don't go with Petmate!

UPDATE:

After explaining 3 to 5 business days was unacceptable, since I first contacted them 10/11, and our trip is planned for Nov. l, and asking it be overnighted, we received it Sat., Oct. 29th. So, we finally did get our problem resolved, with the help of the BBB, but buying from this company is not worth the headache. Do yourself a favor and buy from someone else.

This is a fine lightweight kennel. Our small 14lb dog fits in it perfectly.

My year-old small 9 pound terrier rescue pup is full of energy! I had been using a 50 foot cotton leash to exercise and play with my large breed dogs up until a few weeks back when the leash snapped. I purchased this 50' leash because I have a rescued Bernese Mountain Dog who would not 'go potty' while on lead. I was hesitant at first to get such a long leash especially w/it being non-retractable but I have to say I'm very satisfied with it. It's great to use with my 20lb dog (although it may be overkill since the hook and leash is very heavy duty) as she runs after balls in an open field. This is a nice trade off to give her some sense of freedom since it's recommended for her breed to never be let off leash. The leash does drag on the grass but the material is smooth and doesn't stiffen up. I've been able to choke down on the leash with her tugging and haven't had any issues with it tearing up my hands either. Very satisfied with this purchase.

So I've had this leash for a few months now. It sits outside 24/7 tied to a post out front. The leash has held tight and strong. I have a large black lab, but she isn't a huge puller.

Needed a replacement cable for my dogs. I have two dogs, 20 and 25lbs. This works well for them. Not too heavy, they are able to pull it around the yard with no problem. The cable has little 'memory' and uncoils with no trouble at all! Wonderful! It also has a spring/shock absorber on one end, in case the dogs run and hit the end of the cable. We've had this for about a month, and are very happy with it.

This cable has rusted and has faded to almost white. I don't use the clip on either end, so it is still working for me since I keep a collar permanently on one end. I'd image if you need to use the clip that the rust would make it difficult.

I really feel like I must defend this product and encourage others to give it a try, because thanks to this green box my yard is cat free and will stay this way as long as I keep this box.

When I purchased this device a year ago to fend off hordes of neighboring cats who found our yard to be a perfect litter box, I expected immediate results. I just wanted to see my yard completely cat-free the next day or at least in a week, but I had no such luck.

The problem is not poor functioning or ineffectiveness of the device, the problem is the nature of cats they are incredible creatures of habit and it takes a very long time to brake those established habits. So, if you think that this device will miraculously get rid of the cats in a day or in a month you will be disappointed, the cats are extremely persistent.

Once I learned this, I started methodically moving the device from one corner of the yard to another and kept it at every new location for several weeks until cats stopped going there. Of course they found a different spot in my yard, and I moved the device there, and so on.

I think that the main idea is to leave the device in one spot for a long period of time (at least a few weeks) which teaches the cat that this place is always off limits and they stop going there. In the course of nine months I have moved the devise consistently following the patterns of favorite cat passages. At times I was losing all hope but my persistence has been rewarded our yard is cat free, but I am not putting the device away, I keep using it as a precautionary measure.

I am very satisfied with this product.

Contrary to the other reviews I have to say it has worked for me so far (update: now 4 months!). I found the range to be more than sufficient, turning on when I'm a good 20 feet away. The construction is solid and it has an extension to raise the height over the grass which seems to help the range. I was worried that I wouldn't know it was working or not, or whether it was defective since the sound is suppose to be in the high frequencies, but I can hear a very high pitch sound and a red light also turns on inside the sensor. One thing to watch out for that might explain some of the other bad reviews is the fact that some cat breeds and older cats are deaf to high frequencies so this device doesn't bother them at all. The company warns about this in their instructions. All the stray cats pooping on my lawn seems to have excellent hearing so far.

Apparently this item has had mixed reviews. In my case, I have 2 cats and at least one of them decided that the bathtub and one spot in my dining room were suitable places for urinating. I put one of these devices in each location, and within minutes the cats (and my dog for that matter!)avoided the areas in front of the sensors like the plague. They've learned how to walk in back of the one in the living room, such that it doesn't trigger, (just in case someone is afraid they will not enter the "room" it is in and so forth), but my problem is FINALLY solved. It was my last hope thank heavens it worked. Note: The first Catstop I rec'd was defective, such that once it was triggered, it remained on (i.e., emitting sound) at all times. I simply called Contech and they replaced it within a week no questions asked, nor did they ask me to return the product I had. Finally, the product does state that it is not for indoor use, given that the sound is probably not too healthy for human or animal ears in confined spaces, but since it rarely if ever gets triggered anymore, I was willing to take the chance until/unless I found it wouldn't work as a deterrent.

We have three catsand one of them (I don't know which-and urine DNA testing on each of them is probably not reasonable!) Has decided it would be a good idea to 'mark' our pretty, Leaded Crystal with a brass kickplate front door. The original Kick Plate was pitted and ruined-so before I installed the new one I waited... and sure enough-after only a few weeks, there was urine markings on the door again. I bought a scat mat to zap them (just a little!) and that worked until the mat was removed. This little (it's smaller than what it looks in the photos) gizmo has been working like a charm for the past couple of weeks we have had it. Another week or two and I will be comfortable enough to install the new brass kickplate! Anyway, we have it situated where if anyone or anything comes to the front door.. off it goes.. and believe me, my tow 8 year old cats hear it just fine... Mr. Barkeley (14) seldom if ever leaves the garageso I have not actually tested it on him... but I am SO very happy to NOT have urine all over the door anymore! YYYIIIIPPPIIIEEEE!

I also added the AC adapter they offered because ours gets a workout being at the front door. While waiting for the replacement to arrive, I changed the battery and the noise went awayso I returned the replacement to Contech.

This collar came without the charger or any of the 'extras' it was supposed to have. Further, once my dog barked and set it off, THE SHOCK NEVER TURNED OFF!!! My great big, 90 dog actually cried -the collar went in the garbage. Do not buy this product!

I should of known better than to buy such a cheap item. Advertised for large dogs, the strap did not even come close to fitting the neck of my 100lb Pyrenees cross. I replaced the strap and followed the poor directions to use the collar. The dog barked just as much as before, and had no reaction to it. I checked battery voltage, tried different settings, and even held it to my throat while barking to see if it was working. It was not. This is a cheap item, poorly written up, and comes with incomplete instructions. So, applying for a refund, I got several emails from the company trying to tell me that it works fine and there must be something else wrong like batteries or tightness against the neck. After I insisted on a refund, they charge 15%, do not refund shipping, and it will probably cost me as much to ship back as the refund is.

Didn't seem to work so turned device settings up and then would shock even when dog wasn't barking. The price was right, just wish it worked.
