Super Tie Out Cable

This cable is the strongest I have found. My 50 lbs dog has blown through 3 tie outs and 3 different collars. She should not have on any of them according to their ratings.

I took off 1 star for the hooks. They are the type that my dog somehow gets off from. I had to tape the hook clasp and attach a different one. The hook that is on it is the type that just swings like a gate. It is not the kind that works better that slides in and out.

I been using this tie out for awhile. It has not failed where others have and it still looks it perfect condition. She is just active and pulls very hard on her tie outs. I have even seen her run from one end of her area to the other just to try and break free.

Dogs... this one seems to think of nothing but what she will do when she gets free.

Treatstik Large Meal and Treat Dispensing Dog Toy

This is one of my dog's favorite toys. She had one that I got at a pet store and finally trashed it but I could not find it anywhere but amazon this time. Happy I did.

Product arrived without the top and could not be used. Company just told me to order another one. Made of a material that if product was dropped on a floor by pet it would crack. Bad choice for a toy especially for a yellow lab

This is a quality product. I used the pink version of this large Treatstik (9.75" long) to feed my 50lb. border collie one of her 2 meals a day of her dry kibble. It both entertained her and slowed down her too-rapid eating. (The Treatstik was recommended by name to me by a dog trainer for this purpose.)

Treatstik is well made of thick, hard, sturdy nylon that is smooth, with no sharp parts. Even the hole treats are dispensed from has smoothed edges. Our border collie passed away a couple of weeks after we got the Treatstick (from a pre-existing auto-immune disorder), so I cannot speak to how long it would have lasted. Of course no dog toy is indestructible if you have a super-strong chewer, and I can't say what a stronger/larger jawed chewer than mine would do with it, but this toy is so sturdy and well made that I fully expect that it would have lasted for years with my dog: she did not seem too interested in chewing on it, mainly just knocking the food out (which occupied her for quite a while, but was not so hard to do that she became frustrated & felt the need to chew it open). I might add that she worked on it quite vigorously, pawing hard at it and knocking it into furniture. There were no furniture scratches since the toy is so smooth, but over time it could mar delicate furniture, of course. But we're dog people, so we're used to this, eh? I toss throw pillows or towels in front of certain furniture legs, etc, when I give my dog this inside.

I've looked at all the treat/food dispenser toys I can find in stores and online, and I've bought several, but this is the only one I've continued to use. Unlike the others, Treatstik is very easy to fill through its large opening; even my sore hands can screw the cap on/off easily (cap even has smooth ridges that help grasp it with wet hands); cap stayed on while my dog played with it; and it's very easy to wash by hand, or it's dishwasher-safe.

Note that the Treatstik website says it is not for "toy" dogs: the hole that dispenses the treats is by my measure approximately 3/4" long by 1/2" wide oval. The small size Treatstik (6" long) has the same size hole. So I believe your dog might be a bit safer if she has lower canines farther apart than ¾" (the latter is just my opinion).

The large Treatstik holds up to 1.5 cups of treats or kibble, and the smalll size holds ½ cup. Although the large size that I already have works fine with my 14lb mini poodle, and she loves it (I supervise her with it, and her lower canines are wider than the hole), I plan to order the smaller size simply because I plan to give the large one to a friend who has a big dog. My little dog eats only 1/3 cup kibble per meal, so I don't need the large size anymore.

UPDATE 10/25/12: I've been using the small Treatstik for several days now with my miniature poodle (14lbs, 11" tall at shoulder, bordering on small enough to be called a toy, but with lower canines wider than the hole). Both sizes have the same size treat dispensing hole, and both are the same excellent quality construction. I thought that the small would be better for this much smaller dog to handle, but I have decided that I prefer the large one that I already have, even for my small dog. The smaller toy is so much narrower in diameter in the part where the dispensing hole is, that if I put her entire 1/3 cup kibble in it (it has a ½ cup capacity per manufacturer), my dog feels she might be able to reach the kibble by just lying down & chewing at the hole to get to the food something she never even tried with the large version, and not what I want her to do with this toy. So I have to feed her the 1/3 cup in 2 installments, a minor nuisance (but not an issue if you're only using it to feed a few treats at a time). Also, I had thought that she would be able to pick up & tilt the smaller version to get every last kibble out, which she couldn't do with the larger one since it was too thick for her small mouth to pick up. However, she still can't pick up the fatter end of the small one, which is where she would need to grasp it to tilt it to get the food to fall down to where the hole is (she frustrates easily & won't experiment with creative ways to tilt it)so she has the same problem with both sizes, causing her to get frustrated & give up on getting the last 6-10 pieces of (very small bites size) kibble out. This is not a big problem since I always supervise her while she uses it, so whichever size Treatstik we're using, I just shake the kibble down to the hole for her a few times toward the end of play. So both sizes work pretty much the same for my small dog, except that I can put her whole meal at one time in the large one, and the small one just requires a refill part way through, so just a little more involvement on my part.

This is just my take on it. My dog gives up easily & never goes back to toys that frustrate her, but some small dogs might work at the small Treatstik until they figured out a way to tilt the food out which might even be a good thing to keep them busy longer?

Please forgive the long wordy review. I wanted to give as much detail as possible, since this is a relatively expensive toy I wish I'd known all this before I invested in the 2nd one that I ended up not needing.

ScatMat Power Adapter, 9 Volts

This power adapter is not compatible with the large scat mat that is also sold by amazon.com. I have another scat mat that has a different control and it has a place on it to plug the power adapter into. The control on the large scat mat is different and has no place to plug in the adapter. It can only be used with batteries.

This AC adapter doesn't fit all scat mats regardless of the product description. It doesn't fit the 60 x 12 mat. BEWARE.

If your mat comes with the controller that is shaped like the paw your adapter will not plug into it. Call the company and they will send you out the right control unit to work with the 6 volt adapter. Mine came and wouldn't work together so I called the company. No problems will send it out right away. A little inconvenient but a good company. I plan on buying other size mats and they said just give a call.

It was recommended as a purchase in tandem with the 48x20 mat. It came weeks before the mat, at which point we tried to figure out how it worked and have concluded it simply doesn't fit together in any way. I like to feed my dog healthy stuff but one dog trainer wanted me to bring "high currency" treats so I bought some hot dogs and Daisy certainly enjoyed them.

However, she actually goes nuts over the Holistix way more than she ever did for hot dogs and I'm happier feeding them to her. And they're not so stinky to carry around, and not perishable either.

Daisy is about 14 pounds and I break the Holistix into 3 or 4 pieces. It's a little crumby but that way she gets several treats over the course of the day. I use these to help motivate her not to bark at dogs that we pass on our walk. When I mention "treat" she starts dancing on her hind legs walking backwards sometimes half a block in anticipation of one little morsel of Holistix!

I have been buying the Whitefish, Cranberries, Apples, and Blueberries variety. I think we tried another variety once and it was OK but mostly I've just stuck with these. On amazon they are listed as "Menhaden Fish Meal." That is what is listed as the fourth ingredient right before "whitefish." I knew it was the right item by the blue label area and the picture of the bag. Previously I had bought them elsewhere.

These are not cheap but if you break them up like I do and ration them out, as you should with all treats, a bag lasts quite a while.

It's definitely challenging to juggle both a touch stick and a clicker in one hand (and often a treat in another) so the idea of a combined stick and clicker struck me as genius. The "Clik Stik" was attractively packaged in plastic with a little training guide. It's hard to miss with the bright green and purple colors, fits easily in my hand and has a clip on the back to hook it on your pants when not being used. The pointer itself is a good length and telescopes so it's usable for a variety of purposes. The only thing that I would have liked to see included would be a base you could sit it in to use for distance training work.

However, there's a major flaw with the product and that's the clicker. It's *way* too soft. Right out of the box I noticed how quiet the click was, but a couple training sessions and it's pretty much gone completely. You need complete and total silence to hear it at all. Considering the whole point of this device is that the clicker is built-in, it's a pretty major problem when the clicker doesn't work! Hopefully someone will come up with a similar product, that provides a reasonable click along with it.

ADDED: I got a replacement for the first one and the clicker seems to work a tad better, but still VERY quiet. It has the same fragile feeling as well that makes me wary that it will also get worse with use as the first did. It still is a nice pointer stick, but such a shame the clicker portion of it is so sub-standard. I have bought other target sticks for considerably less than this one so hard to recommend it when this is so problematic.

The pamphlet explains the basics (which is done with precision and clarity) and you are left to the use of your own imagination as to what tricks or chores to teach your dog. So far, I have taught my dog, Steel, to "find the target" around the room, identify 2 toys, and shut the door behind him with this tool and the techniques described in the pamphlet.

A lot of fun and a great way to build a positive relationship with your pet! Steel's become even more attentive and behavioral "issues" have decreased because his improved focus.

Some reviewers have complained that the sound of the clicker itself is too soft, while others say it's just fine, or loud enough for dog ears. If you go to a store where you can try different Clik Sticks, you'll find that indeed some do click louder than others. I would suggest taking that route, rather than ordering online and getting whatever you happen to get. As for fragility, I don't think it seems fragile at all. The clicker seems as "sturdy" as any other clicker out there, and the wand telescopes nicely. While I haven't searched high and low, I haven't found another target stick with built-in clicker so far; thus, I would recommend this highly. I've been using it for over a week now and it works just as well as I would've hoped. My only small complaint is that the target ball could be a bit larger, but that's a small quibble. My puppy responds very well to it... but of course she is BRILLIANT ;-)

Many trainers recommend a clicker and a target which aids in training the dog to associate a particular spot or postion with the reward. With a retractable target the Premier Click Stick fills the bill nicely. Having the capability to not extend (use as an ordinary clicker), partially extend, or fully extend, allows a great deal of flexibility without being clumsy. The clicking sound is crisp and adequate for in the house or an average size yard remembering that dogs have far superior hearing.

The Click Stick is light and fits my medium size hand well. Because of the well thought-out shape, it is easy to find the clicker button by touch alone. There is a clip allowing the Click Stick to be hooked to a belt or pocket, but since the clip is not tight fitting I wouldn't trust it to hold the clicker securly in a light-weight shirt pocket. Also included in the package is a helpful instruction booklet which provides you with the basics of clicker target training including how to get your dog to respond to the clicks as well as the target. You will need training sized treats, not included, for incentives and rewards for Bowser, Fido, Missy, Hey you, Stupid, or whatever it is you may have named your dog(s). once you and Fido have learned the basics, clicker training can be a whole lot of fun.

As an additional note, if you have multiple dogs as I do, it is often helpful to, at least initially, work with one at a time so as not to confuse them.

OK, if I could give this product 6 stars I would.

We were having a big problem with our Boxer puppy not catching on to the in/out concept of housebreaking. It was driving us crazy. He was well past where it should have sunk in. We were trying to be vigilant, but accidents were still happening, and undoubtedly so when we were away and came back.

We tried Nature's Miracle, we tried being vigilant, monitoring when he would drink water, taking him out for frequent trips outside, etc. but didn't have any success.

Then we thought we'd try this. It seemed like a gimmick, but we were will to through $20 bucks at the problem to try and solve it. My expectations were low.

Very thankfully, I was completely wrong. Our dog took to it right away. For the first week, every time we opened the door to the backyard we rang the bells, encouraged him to hit it with his nose, and said "Ring the bells" before opening the door. In a very short time our little guy caught on, and would hit the bells lightly with his nose to make them sound, at which point we'd jump up and open the door -and he'd go out and successfully do is business. It was awesome.

Now, we always know when he wants to go out. The bells aren't too loud or soft either. We can hear them anywhere we are on our first floor, but not too loud that they are annoying when rung. Either way, they work so we're happy.

Plus, they travel easily. We took them with us to our various families' homes over Christmas and our dog used them there as well, much to our families' surprise.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT -I strongly recommend it.

These bells should called control your owner bells. My dog learned to us the bells for potty, so I got another set for upstairs. She uses these bells any time she wants you to do anything. Once you are up, she directs you to what she wants. These bells have improved our communication greatly.

We bought these poochie bells for our 50-lb, 1 year old mixed breed dog. She is house broken but was having a few accidents in the house because we weren't picking up on her signals that she had to go. She would just sit by our our feet or bother us but we thought she just wanted attention so we got these bells to help let her notify us in a more audible way. I followed the directions on the package, i taught her touch and treated her when she touched her nose to the bells. Then, each time we take her outside, we say "outside, touch the bells" and if she doesn't touch it with her nose, we do it for her and take her out. She picked it up after a few days. Now, when she touches the bells, we know she has to go. I've heard of other dogs abusing the bells to just go outside to play but our dog hasn't done that. We don't hang them on the door knob because it would be ringing whenever we came in and left the house, we placed it on a hook near the door at the dog's level, so it only sounds when she needs it. We kept it out of her reach the first few days when we started to keep her from abusing it but now it stays hung on the hook all the time. We still take her out in the morning and before bed without her prompting it but its great for all the times in between. It's been a great training tool and it looks much better than the pictures shown here.

Within a few days our dog was "ringing the bell" to go out! Simply amazing. These balls are a great novalty, but not chew proof. They don't pass the Lab test. I have a labrador, she was able to get her teeth into the hole and rip it apart.

Simple Solutions Washable Training and Travel Pad, Medium

I haven't tried it out yet, but the product description says, "Includes two pads that measures 30 by 32-inch." but the package that I got says, "1 medium pad". Not happy because I bought it thinking there were two pads inside so that I could wash one and use one for my geriatric pet. Now I will have to buy another one.

I bought it for night time use by my incontinent geriatric dog who has mobility problems due to arthritis. By putting him on about 1/3 of the pad from the edge it was about 4 hours before a little under 1/2 of the pad got wet but the top cover was only slightly moist to the touch. I put him on the other side of the pad and it took about the same time to get damp, certainly by 12 hours (8:30 pm 8:30 am) the pad was saturated enough that you could feel the moisture whereas at 8 hours you just barely feel the dampness. This is a whole lot better than the human disposable bed pads that I bought that only trapped the moisture but didn't stay dry and didn't last as long as 4 hours which necessitated my getting up at about 2 3 hour intervals to change!

I tried other brands, this one not very good. Dog's won't use it.

skip this one, and try another brand.

SportDOG Sport Hunter Add-A-Dog, SDR

I own the SportDog ProHunter 2400, and added two of these collars to give me three in total.

The collars work great, I've never had a problem with them. I've replaced the rechargeable batteries after 2 years of use, which is normal given how I allowed them to totally discharge.

The ProHunter 2400 has its limitations, but that is not what this review is about. The collars work every time, and are very rugged. We have 3 large breed dogs who play hard, they haven't so much as scratched them.

Note: these are unsuitable for small breed dogs given the collar size.

Got the Add a collar for my son and he said it was working great (once I called and get it programed and added on :-) ) a very good product and arrived when i needed it.

Himalayan Dog Chew, Medium 2.5 oz

Loquat and Leonard are brother and sister labs. I've been searching for the perfect edible chew toy since they were born (perfect= lasts an hour or so, dogs like the taste, inexpensive).

The Himalayan chews got 1 out of 3 in my rating system. While the dogs clearly enjoyed their yaky goodness, my more chewy dog ate hers in under 10 minutes. She's a monster, granted. My other dog took his leisurely time licking the treat and lightly chewed it until it, too, was gone in under an hour. To give you a better picture, my dogs are both around sixty pounds and are under a year old.

The chew toys that we've found work are hooves (cheap, but super stinky) and braided bullysticks. They last about as long as these crazy Himalayan cheese sticks, but they're like a dollar each (look for them online or at Costco).

Final verdict, if I were rich, my dogs would get Himalayan dog chews, imported Spanish silver dog dishes, Italian wool beds and personal massage therapists. But as it stands, I can barely afford Ikea for even myself so hooves it is!

This is the best chew ever. My dog won't put it down and they last a really long time. The first time I gave her one she immediately ran away with it and hid it, now that's the sign of a good bone! They are also all natural and good for your dog's teeth.

If you have a dog who has weak jaws and is a licker rather then a chewer this may work well. My (smaller) Doberman split this right in 1/2 with in 15 mins. Then it scared the crap outta me thinking that she could just swallow it down whole.. So I threw it away along with too much $$ on this product. I'll stick with BullySticks.

My Maltese loves these chews sticks. As she's a little dog, it's been hard for me to find long lasting chew sticks that are small enough for her little mouth. There are plenty of chew sticks and bones out there for study chewers with large mouths, but these are a long lasting option for little dogs too. Plus, my dog seems to love the flavor.

I bought a medium size which is a bit of a challenge for her to maneuver and chew, but the challenge just makes the stick last even longer.

My dog loved this treat, and it took days for her to get through it. However, once she was 2/3 of the way through the bone, she swallowed the remiander. She seemed fine until 4 days later, she vomited up the entire piece of the bone in tact. This sat in her stomach for 4 days and was not digested one bit. Fine for a chew toy but not for consumption.

Yes, my pups love these chewy treats and I love the fact that they are made in the USA. I'm currently using them for training treats since they are so popular, and since my pups are still small (13 pounds and 7 pounds) I break them into three pieces. Now this would be a ridiculous thing to do with a big dog, but with the pups it takes them some time to eat even a third (about the size of a Chiclet) because they are chewy.

Made from Chicken, Brown rice, barley flour, cane molasses, vegetable glycerin, chicken liver, gelatin, apples, carrots, salt, phosphoric acid, sorbic acid (as a preservative) mixed tocopherols (also a perservative) glucosamine hydrocholoride, and chondroitin sulfate.

A 10-30 pound dog should get 2 treats/day. This is graduated up to 5 for a dog over 95 pounds.

My two shelties are a little overweight, and this is one of the only dog treats that provides any information on calories. These snacks stay soft in their resealable bag or in sealed baggies, have a pleasant but not overwhelming smell that my girls really like, and taste delicious according to my shelties. I appreciate it that they are very easy to break in half or into quarters even with my arthritic fingers and make terrific training treats and rewards that I can be sure are not loaded with calories. I wish more dog foods and snacks provided calorie and nutritional information like the kind on packaged foods for humans.

Bought these for my little Pomeranian so that I could give her lots of treats without making her a little fatty. She's still slim and active and enjoys these treats to no end! One tip I would give is to be sure that you do not let them dry out. If you don't seal the bag perfectly before putting it away they become hard and ashy :( My dog still eats them, obviously, she doesn't care! But she liked them much more when they were soft. This happened as I neared the end of my first bag, so next time I just kept most sealed up and just took out some in a smaller ziplock for more active use. (Since I treated her every day, going to the main package open/closing it was multiple times to risk the whole batch!) Other than that, which isn't really their fault, totally my fault! I recommend these for sure! It's much better than giving your dog human food or high calorie treats they don't need!

My puppy loves these treats. My husband and I sometimes break them up even smaller and that's so easy to do because they are soft. They smell nice and meaty too. I am glad they offer a low calorie option.

If anyone else is worried about their dog gaining weight, this product is a good option and I've also purchased 1/2 calorie treats from another brand. He likes both a lot.

Tip: you can also give dogs some of their daily rationed food as "treats" while training ...if they eat kibble. (My boy eats raw and canned food but he gets kibble or treats like Old Mother Hubbard Snacks during training)

My dog is a 10 yr old corgi mix, she has the long basset hound shape & is prone to pinching nerves & joint aches, the vet had given me some glucosamine chews when she had a seizure, that worked great, but I didn't want to spend the money to keep up with those. I was very happy to find a much cheaper, more natural option. I only wish they weren't such small pieces. She's not a large dog (about 40 lbs), but not that small either.
