We bought this training device not so much for training, but as a device to be able to call our dog over long distances to let her know it is time to come home. We did test the unit by driving more than a mile from the collar and then sending a mild shock and a vibration to the collar. Both signals were felt by the person holding the collar. Upon following the training directions of teaching the dog the command to return to us, she began to get the idea which then altered the requirements we had for the collar.

I like to take long walks with our dog {11 months old} and allow her to experience everything on her own in safe enviroments. She has a tendency though to be able to locate deer very quickly and once she's honed in on one she's focused on getting to that deer or deer if there are more than one. Once in pursuit she'll follow until they outrun her which is about 300 yards or more. This collar is one of the very FEW that operate at distances greater than 100 yards!!! Our needs have quickly turned from wanting to be able to call her back to us to having the peace of mind of knowing where she is and that she isn't hurt.

Presently we are trying to return this model having only testing it and NOT using it, for the model DT-2430 that contains the beeper/locator which runs about $70 more. Unfortunately our 30 day window expired while we were out of the country on a medical emergency so it looks as though I will have to find an alternate method of selling this to purchse the model we really should have gotten in the first place. This is a great tool, I don't believe in shocking my dog, but the ability to vibrate her collar and have her know that means return to us is INVALUABLE, especially since I am the only person in the house that can whistle loud enough for her to hear me when she is out of site.

Item came apparently used or previously returned. No instructions or promised instructional DVD. Transmitter battery was installed and completely run down. Receiver appeared to work after battery was installed but could not test the collar as the transmitter was inactive due to faulty battery.

It is good if you have your eyes on your pet at all times, but only if you have your eyes on them all the time; other wise it is not any good. It was working and I almost had my dog trained not to jump the fence, but took my eyes off of her for 5 minutes and that was all it took for her to jump the fence and get hit by a car. She will live, but like I said, only good if you have your eyes on them at all times. I would give it a 6.

My dog grabbed it for about 4 seconds before I could get it out of his mouth and it was chewed in half. I have since purchased another brand that is nylon and have had no such problem. For the money I wouldn't buy this leash again, it's just too flimsy.

I love these leads because of their distance, but it is strange to me that of the four i have ordered there are three different types of clips. 2 of the clips broke right away and 2 have lasted so just make sure you just test it out first that is all.

There seem to be multiple reviews for this collar in several locations because so many different retailers are selling the exact same collar.......The only difference is the price and how they market it.

The bottom line is this collar will work, however it is not very durable or well made.

I'd say if you have an indoor dog that isn't very active, you'll probably get results with this collar. If you have an active, outdoor dog, I'd invest in a higher quality collar.

This product only last for around 30 minutes. After using for around 30 minutes, I put it back in the box for future training. Next day, it stop responding even I put 2 sets of brand new batteries in the receiver, nothing to do. I need to return it. I give 1 star because I cannot give less than 1, but I would if I could. This is a cheap copy from some brand name product.

I am not a fan of shock collars, although we were going on a family vacation that approved animals as long as they didn't disturb other's. I have a Jack Russel terrier that could bark all night long if you let her.

So my husband and I thought it over for a long time and we finally decided on the remote pet trainer, when we received the collar I tested it moderately on myself to see exactly how it felt to be shock and the know what my dog would be feeling.

The collar it worked well with the remote, and had a lot of shock power to it. I would defiantly recommend this product to anyone out there wanting to buy a shock collar it has two different modes shock and vibrate. Honestly the vibrate worked just as well with my dog.

Ok I got this thing maily for the vibration to get my dogs attention. The problem with it is that after not pushing any buttons for 2 min it goes to sleep mode. That wouldn't be a problem, but it won't turn back on after it goes to sleep. I tried pushing all the buttons and everything and it won't turn back on. The only thing that works is the LED light at the top. The LCD display will be blank. The solution to this problem is to take the batterties out of it, and push the LED button to drain the juice that is still in it, and then put the batteries back in. After this you still have one more step until you get the thing to work. You have to take the collar off the dog, remove the batteries and and pair the two devices again.

Needless to say, this is a pain in the butt. It makes using this device on a consistent basis nearly impossible. I would not reccomend anyone buying this product. Spend a little bit more money and get a better product.

This is the best little collar. We've only had it for about a week, but it's worked wonders! We have the option to just use the vibrate mode, which is perfect for our dog. He feels the vibration, and stops whatever bad behavior he's doing. I was afraid that it would be junk since it was so cheap, but it has worked out so far!

Pros:

Works like it should. I haven't used it past 100yds but it always works. You can even use the remote from inside your home and it will still transmit to the outside. Make sure you test it on yourself first so you know what to expect. I have never needed to go past medium and I have a very stubborn dog. If you use it like you are suppose to and you are very diligent with your training this is a great product.

Cons: the only reason I give it three stars is because the battery on the collar last about 2 3 weeks before it needs to be replaced. I don't remember seeing a warning that the batteries were low and one day when I tried to turn it on it was just dead.

I would recommend a collar that is rechargeable. I have a rechargeable e-collar for my bird dog and the collar is even waterproof. I spent about 10 more dollars for these features.

I have an 80lb dog that usually walks right by my side. Sometimesshe pulls so i thought I would try the leash as i have a rotor cuff tear. The leash is way too long. I have had a problem with my German shepherd pulling and the leash gives her more room and it stretches to allow her to reAch. It does snap her back but not til she's at a good length. I think I needed to get a shorter leash but the weight description said I needed the one I ordered.

This was one warehouse deal item that was probably no deal. The bag was cut open and taped. Not sure how long it was open but the bones looked dried out. The light goes around the entire collar unilke many other "lighted attachments" and the light doesn't go out when the dogs are playing or running around (again, unlike other collars). I walk my medium-sized, black with gray spots, dog off-leash in Prospect Park every morning at 6 am. Now and for the next few months, that means it's pitch dark outside and as soon as she gets about 20 feet away from me, she just blends into the dark. I've tried those little dangly lights and they never last long with how hard she plays. A friend had one of these 'Nite Dawg' collars on his lab and I could see them from 150 yards off, so I thought I'd give it a try. When I started to read the instructions I knew it was going to be JUNK! Not only is the English awful, the spelling horrible but the instructions are also horrible. For example it states "We would recommend you to use the vibration function first before starting the shock and always start from the lowest level of static shock" this is underlined for emphasisfair enough. it never tells you how to adjust the shock. It doesn't matter because it doesn't shock, it only vibrates! Spelling and simple English is not that hard when you are providing directions in English. Here is a sample: "Please always install battery for the Transmitter BEFOE install batteries for the receiver. The Transmitter has to be power on first, then the receiver will be able to receive the pair code from transmitter"

Shame on Amazon for letting this crap be sold. Back it goes, net loss for everyone!

Although this device is WAY too big for my Yorkie/Min Pin (4lbs) I can attach it through her harness and around her chest. No, I don't use the shock feature as I think it's VERY likely way too much for this lil pup, but the vibrate feature gets her attention plenty enough to help with correcting issues as they come up. However because of the size it makes it very difficult to keep it on her for very long periods of time. Kinda looks like a HUGE lump of heart monitoring equipment sticking out of the side of her! :)

Battery life SUCKS the remote turns off my the collar does not BUT I bought this for my pug/jack russell mix who takes after a jack russell :-) I have used this collar to help train with scratching the carpet chewing things, barking, and staying with me with out a leash. At first I ONLY used the vibration and sound but one day he took off for the busy road (he saw a squrill) and vibration would not stop him so I shocked him I figured better a little pain over being hit by a car and boy did he yelp but he also stoped and sat instintly, needless to say he has not taken off from me again. Now with the collar on I only have to show him the remote or if he is not looking press the noise button and he sits and waits. This product works its great for training but you have to be with your dog with the remote for training don't expect your dog to stop doing unwanted behaviors once you are not around although if you have the time and a video camera sit outside your house watching what he is doing and you can hit one of the buttons when he does somthing wrong while he thinks your not home then depending on your dog he might stop it worked on him scratching the carpet up but not eating my favorite slippers which are now his :-)So if you have a good supply of AAA batterys then use it it does work!

I bought this collar for my Chihuahua dog is a little bigger than normal, at least the weight is 4.5 pounds, the vibrating function works well and does not cause discomfort, but the electric shock nearly killed him!.

I pressed the button once and the dog screamed in pain and jumped very high! fell into the ground, his head hit the concrete!

I almost killed my poor little animal! I ll never use it again!

Bought these bells several months ago while trying to potty train my Pomeranian. The bells were beautiful, just as described and were made in a very durable fashion. I hung them on my front door and for a while very faithfully had my pup ring them with his paw before he went outside. Month after month ... eventually I lost patience. Instead of ringing the bells, Bruce comes up to my and stands up on his hind legs and gives me "the stare." When I ask him if he needs to potty outside he does a double jump almost up to my chest to say yes. If he doesn't he just walks away. So instead of me training him to use the bells, he has trained me to ask the question and then he tells me yes or no. *sigh* The amazing thing is that this morning, I was ignoring the fact that he was jumping all around and clearly needed to go outside because I had to leave for work in an hour, and had taken him out about two hours earlier. I wanted to wait and take him out right before I left for work. Well he got so desperate wonder of wonders, he went over and rang the bells!! So I think that he knows and makes the connection to ring them, but he has just decided that it is so much easier to just tell me in person rather than use the bells to let me know what he wants. I believe that if you were a little more persistent that I was, or if your dog is just more into them then these would work great for you!

It wasn't very hard to teach my puppy to use these bells for potty training, but he also figured out another use for these. He will ring these every time he gets bored and wants to just go out and play. On average, he rings the bells about 4 times every hour. So it becomes Russian roulette if I decide to ignore when he paws the bells.

I have a well-mannered French Bulldog puppy of 11 months. Up until a few months ago, he was still having the occasional accident, but it seemed pretty clear that he simply didn't know how to let me know that he needed or wanted to go outside.

I purchased these bells and hung them on the back door. At first, the bells terrified him, and he wanted nothing to do with them. However, I patiently followed the instructions, and we rang the bell together each time he went out. For awhile, he ignored the bells, but then one day, he gently nudged them... I promptly praised him and let him out. He began to ring the bells regularly and lets me know know daily when he'd like to go out by nudging the bells.

Marco Polo Pet Monitoring/Tracking and Locating System

I run a dog rescue and have been using the Marco Polo system for about a year now. This is an invaluble system first and foremost for me due to it's alarm capabilities. Having multiple dogs, many of which are "bolters" it is a true blessing to have an acurate system to immediately alarm when one has left my yard or house. The ability to set the distance at which the alarm begins to sound is easy but we just keep it at the closest level so that we have an immediate alarm if a dog were to slip out. The fact that you can use multiple collar trackers for just one base unit, numbering on the base unit exactly which collar is alarming, is wonderful.

The tracking unit takes a bit of study to get used to if you are not super nerd inclined, but once you learn it quickly it is easy to grab the unit and go searching. I live in an area which is hilly with many canyons and open space and previous units made by other companies did not allow for the ability to get good coverage, and we found out the hard way that those other units lost the battery life within a day or two and then were useless to continue tracking. Marco Polo will go on tracking for long periods of time with no recharge needed.

This product is highly recommended by me and as a Pet Professional I have found it to be a very high quality product which gives us invaluble peace of mind.

I have had the Marco Polo system for the express purpose of being able to find my dogs in the woods should they stray on our walks. I have used it for this purpose, though, thankfully, I haven't needed to really look for a lost dog. I don't use the monitoring part of the system since my dogs are in a fenced yard when at home.

What I like & would like improved are somewhat the same, and are addressed in the points below.

1. I like the smallish size of the part which goes on the dogs' collars. Yet, if it were still accurate over long distances, I'd like it smaller still. Nevertheless, my 30# dogs have no trouble with the size or the weight of it.

2. I like the fact that the system doesn't depend on GPS. There is no monthly fee, especially since I only use it sporadically, however, I think it might be the best of both worlds if somehow a GPS component could be incorporated, giving me the ability to locate the dog on a map on my phone in addition to on the handheld. But, because the locations where I walk don't always have reliable GPS reception, I chose the Marco Polo where the signal is only communicating between the transmitter and receiver. If this became a GPS product in addition, I would want an option to pay per use, not a monthly fee.

3. I find the handheld portion of the system to be adequate in size. Much smaller and I couldn't read it. The display is already a challenge for my aging eyes :}, however, I like the beeping part of the program. Three beeps and I'm close! A serious design oversight is that there is no hole in the handle so it can be secured by lanyard or carbiner clip either around my neck or on a belt loop. It is small enough to fit into my fanny pack, but not easily accessible from there.

4. The distance the unit can reach is reasonable. The product I used before Marco Polo only had a range of some number of yards. This one gives you longer range, however, this is dependent on what obstacles might be in the way.

5. Customer service has been exemplary. Any questions have been promptly answered, and the company has bent over backwards to make sure I am a satisfied customer.

This isn't available at Amazon yet, but since I've been using this tracker for about six months now, I thought it would be nice if it could start off with one review so people can read about it's use from someone actually using it on their pet.

The tracker is easy to use right out of the box, and comes with very good instructions. An important section of the instruction book is the section on tracking tips. I've also had good luck with customer service as I ran into things I had questions about. Take it out and play with it, so you know what it's like to track something down with it, before you'd have to do it in real life (trying to find a lost pet). Kids especially have fun trying to stump you by hiding the collar REALLY good.

I like the size of the collar unit; my dogs are between 30 and 40 lbs and it's not too big or heavy for them. It fits on any collarit doesn't have to be a buckle type collar, you can slip it on a martingale style collar as well. I have used it on a safety collar, the tezlab one with an elastic insert, and it works fine on that too (if you are leery of leaving a collar on). The handheld unit is small as well, and the antennae "doors" fold in when not in use and protect the screen.

There is a power cord that is used to charge both the handheld and the collar unit. The collar should hold a charge for a couple of months, but it's always safe to get on a schedule of charging monthly, or at least checking the charge monthly. I've never run the charge down in the handheld unit yet. When I use it in monitor mode, it's usually plugged in.

The tracker works kind of like the radio tracking units the hunting folks are familiar with, the "beep beep" tracking systems. But there's an arrow indicating the direction of the collar, and the strength numbers can give you an idea of how far away the collar is. There are also one, two, or three beeps, depending on signal strength (distance to the collar). The enables you to drive around the neighborhood looking for your pet, while listening to the number of beeps and not having to look at the screen all the time.

This is not a gps unityou cannot see your pet's location on a map or get exact distance to the collar. But, since it's not a gps unit, you don't have a monthly service plan and don't rely on cell reception. It can be used in remote areas or outside the of the US.

This is not a long distance radio trackerI'd call it maybe medium range. I have a short range radio tracker and this one gets further than that, but that maybe less than a mile if you are in hilly, wooded terrain with a lot of natural or man-made features. Still, if the pet goes out of the range, you can move around (like you would anyway if you had nothing on the pet) and at least have a hope of picking up a signal.

For example, you come home and your dog is not in the yard. When you get your handheld, you cannot get a signal. Either on foot, bike , or in your car, start to cruise around the area, until the handheld unit picks up a signal.

At that point, you can go on foot. If there's no arrow yet, simply move around until you figure the direction where you either get an arrow or your signal strength numbers start to go up.

As you move in that direction, the arrow will appear and you can simply let it guide you to your pet. You do occasionally get a wacky arrowsuddenly it tells you the pet is in the opposite direction. Keep going and ignore any "one off" direction things. Not sure if it's signal bounce or interference, but it will occasionally happen.

Even if the pet is moving, you can close in on the signal.

Practice this without the panic of a missing pet, and have someone hide your collar, or put it in your husband's golf bag and practice tracking him down on the course. This will locate a pet even if it's inside a house or vehicle.

Besides tracking, you can also monitor your pet. You can set several different circular zones and if the pet leaves the zone the handheld unit will beep to let you know. You can do this in your house or while traveling or camping, or even just hiking with your dog loose. There is a way you can be remotely notified as well, with the addition of an autodialer, but I have no experience with this.

One complaint/suggestionthe handheld unit needs a lanyard or wrist loop. I drop these things all the time.

There are getting to be more and more options for preventing lost pets, and this is a great one for those who don't live in areas with good cell reception or simply do not want to be committed to making monthly payments for a gps tracker. It can be used on smaller dogs or cats.

Microchips are important as well, but they require someone catch your pet and get the chip scanned. They are great for identifying a lost pet so are an important part, but a tracking system may enable you to immediately begin actively searching for your pet.

Once the pets is lost it's too latewith a tracker you can have a much better chance of locating the pet before it gets hit by a car, and if it is injured, you can find it quickly to get care.
