It doesn't cover Pug specific health problems such as sensitivity to high heat, cleaning, etc. It is only the most basic of basic information. Only the first 15-20 minutes of the video actually cover the Pug. The remaining part of the disc is a generic training video with another type of dog, Aussie, I think. My real praise for the video is just for the cute factor of the Pug puppy featured in the DVD. He is a star in the making. The music on the video is repeated throughout and can be quite annoying.

There is a lot of information specific to pugs like; shedding, overheating, housetraining issues, as well as their eyes. This was not covered. It was very generic about dogs. I think the title is misleading.

This product works well in dry climates where the evaporation cooling can really shine. So, if you live in Arizona or Nevada, this is a great product. But, beware if you live somewhere like South Florida. With that kind of humidity, the water doesn't evaporate fast enough to cool the dog. The sun just warms the coat and turns it into a sauna suit. So if you're in such a location, either keep the coat in the fridge until it's time to use it and take it off once the sun warms it, or look into a renewable phase change material vest instead.

It is adjustable and fits her perfectly, no "wear" marks on her thin coat. I've read from other people that it washes really well. My 15 year old golden retriever is now wearing this vest for the 3rd summer in a row. When she was 12 she started overheating to the point of almost fainting. I purchased this for my English/French Bulldog/Staffie mix. She had difficulty walking in temperatures above 75 degrees. She would have to stop and "frog out" in the shade for 5-10 minutes during our walks and she had a very difficult time breathing which made me nervous. A 45 minute walk became a 1.5 hour long walk because of her need to stop and regulate her body temperature. I decided to give this cooling vest a chance, though I was quite skeptical since I always thought that dogs could only regulate their body temp via panting. I bought it in April and have used it several times since then, but refrained from writing a review until I could put it through the test. The final test came today when I took her to the park and let her run on her 50 foot lead. She ran...and ran...and RAN. I had to give her a little time out b/c I thought she might die in the 103 degree index. Granted, we were only out for about a half hour and we didn't run the entire time (I don't have a cooling vest for my own body), but her body under the vest was cool to the touch and, if I had let her, she would have kept running. I know she would not have been able to do so if she didn't have the vest on. I did re-wet the vest once during the run even though it was still wet. I didn't want to risk letting her body temperature rise since it was really hot and humid.

Long story short, this was worth the money. The ONLY complaint I have is that it is light in color and it does get dirty. But, since my dog's nickname is "Dirt Dog" due to her propensity for finding and rolling in dirt and/or feces, I have thrown in the towel on caring about her appearance. I can tell you that her face was full of joy as she ran full tilt through the vast field in her sky-blue cooling vest with her human panting and sweating 50 paces behind her. Totally worth the money...

We got this with intentions to train our puppy, but we haven't been consistent owners (our fault!). The clicker is well made; not like the cheap Petsmart ones. It clicks solidly, and the puppy definitely recognizes it as a 'positive' noise = he's getting a treat. You can click it from a room away, and he'll come running!

The cards included are helpful for beginners to start training simple commands + behaviors. I'd recommend buying this card + clicker set if you're new to dog behavior stuff. Karen's website also has tons of information that you can read online, so check that out as well! Good luck :)

This is a great item for a beginner learning to train their puppy. My dog had a litter and while I was waiting to find them new homes, I used the clicker method to train the puppy's. I am pleased to say that every one that received one of my puppy's is thrilled at their level of training. The cost was nominal, but the rewards are great. Of course, you have to put the time in with the puppy's individually to train them. I can tell you that it works.

This is an excellent set for dog trainers or individuals who want to increase the range of activities they do with their dogs. It would help if the user had some understanding of clicker training. That said, the directions are easy to understand and provide a good introduction to using a clicker. The clicker has a nice ergonomic shape that fits well in the hand. The click is a pleasant sound, not too loud, and not as annoying as some metal clickers. If, like me, you have trouble holding treats, leash and clicker, I recommend the style of clickers that come with a finger loop--it is always there in the right position and you won't drop it.

These are great for an incontinent dog; they can be easily removed and put back on. However, the opening for the tail does allow the dog to defecate outside of the diaper. We used it for our old dog who had had a stroke and was suffering from dementia and had little control over her elimination. The diaper works fine on my Cocker Spaniel. Sometimes I need to readjust the tape holding the diaper on as my dog tends to wiggle a lot. I use the diapers for her incontinence and they work fine, she is comfortable wearing the diaper.

Viatek's Professional Bark Stop

I bought the bark stop about 2 weeks ago. I had read several reviews either really good or really bad so I was quite skeptical, but my dog (jack russell terrier) would bark at the rays of sunlight coming into the house, so I was desperate.

The most important thing to remember when buying a product like this is that there aren't many things that are both great and easy. When you buy treats for dog to train him, do you simply leave the treats out all the time. No. Because he would never figure out that the treats were a reward for doing what you wanted him to. It's the same thing with the bark stop.

The first thing you should do with this device is put it to the audible setting and then test and see what makes the bark stop actually go off. I found that doors shutting hard, clanging dishes, etc all set it off. So, if the device goes off every 5 seconds, the dog isn't going to think for a second that it's going off because he's barking. He's going to assume that it's a uncontrollable sound that he has to live with.

So after putting the device back into the ultrasonic sound setting, I decided that I would only plug the device in when the dog was barking or when he was in his cage. Also, I never leave the device plugged in when I'm doing dishes slamming doors, or doing loud things. So the dog only hears the device when he barks. I realize that this might be a slight annoyance to walk on egg shells in order to make sure the device works, but I would rather do that than have a barking dog. The way I look at it, is I wouldn't just randoming throw my dog treats in the middle of his training, so why leave it plugged in all the time.

In the end, the first time I plugged in the bark stop, I let the dog bark it out. He barked for about 5 minutes (normally 10-15) and then stopped. The second time I plugged it in, he didn't bark more than twice. The bark stop puts out a ultrasonic beep when you plug it in, so I think that now he knows when he's going to hear more than he wants to. I think that the dog has now gotten more used to it, and will try to out bark it, but for the most part, he doesn't bark much at all while it's on, if he barks at all. The one thing that the manual does say is that if the dog is trying to protect the house, usually this device won't help, which I think is a good thing.

Cons:

When I was testing the microphone (used for taking in the bark loudness) on the device, it didn't seem to matter if the microphone was on high or low. Also, this device would be so much more useful if it came with a remote to turn on or off, not to manage each bark, but to simply be able to sit at the couch and click it on, or to click it off.

It appears that the Viatek product (Bark Stop Pro) is related to the Lentek design (PC16 ; ASIN: B0002Q89O6) they are based on a common design by a Lentek engineer. I have used (tried) the Viatek Bark Stop Pro and it definitely DOES NOT work. My experience was the same as another reviewer of the Lentek PC16 who noted that the unit only works on the "Audible" setting dogs will at least perk up their ears at the high pitch tone ; they completely ignore whatever is emitted on the "Ultrasonic" setting. Furthermore, it is often activated by extraneous noises like birds, banging doors, wind noise, etc.

This really poor functionality is due to either poor design or poor construction / quality. I've tried two different units and they both do NOT work.

The negative reenforcement concept could work if only these devices were tuned to the noise environment and could filter out all except the actual barks.

The microphone on this is sensitive, as mentioned by other reviewers. But when we used it, the dog would get a few barks out, then let out a frustrated grumble before stopping completely. She figured out when her barking triggered it, and it worked to stop her nuisance barking.

I recommend putting it AWAY from the tv/radio or areas that you sit and talk. That will lessen the false alarms.

Could not adjust sensitivity low enough. Put a coffee cup down on the counter and it goes off. Blow your nose in the room, goes off. Would not recommend this for anyone. If I could have rated it as a "0", I would have.

Easy Walk Harness - Medium, Black

This helped me train my dog to heel off-leash. If you understand how to train your dog, this will be an amazingly helpful tool.

However, I found that the adjustments slip very easily. This caused the front chest strap to fall. If I pulled when it fell, I'd be pulling on my pups legs, making him trip.

You CANNOT use this as an everyday harness. It's not made so you can yank on a dog that is constantly pulling. If you do this, you'll run into the "my dog walks at an angle" problem, and find the straps loosening up all the time.

Also, a warning to people with dogs with deep chests relative to height i.e. Boston Terriers, Frenchies, Doxies, Pits, etc. Your dog won't fit the harness so well. It'll take a lot of adjustment, and you'll never get it the way the picture says you should, so don't even bother.

Let me preface this review by saying that this is not a full time harness. This is simply a training tool that will teach your dog to walk nicely on a leash.

Before trying this type of harness I had tried different types of training methods on my hound mix and different types of collars, yet my dog would just pull until the point of hurting himself. I figured that I had nothing to lose by trying this harness and it seemed more humane than many of the other training methods.

After using this harness for the first time, I saw an immediate difference. Pulling ceased to allow him to move forward it allowed sideways movement which was not his goal of pulling. After about a month of consistently using this on walks his desire to pull had drastically reduced. After 3 months of this collar on walks, his desire to pull was reduced to such a degree that I don't have to use it anymore.

Essentially, this harness is a means to an end. If you use it with training in mind and are firm and consistent with your training, then it works great within a few months. Now, I have him back on a more conventional collar and he doesn't pull anymore.

Our 1yr old Boston is a terrible puller. I had tried a different harness that while comfortable for him (and much better then a regular collar), did absolutely no good with his pulling. With the Easy Walk Harness, there is an immediate halt to the pulling. He still seems to have range of movement, and is comfortable and still enjoying his walks as well. Reflective Dog Collar

I bought an orange guardian gear collar with the reflective strip because my pointer loves to run at night. The reflective "stripe" is not sewn onto the collar, only with an adhesive that lasted about 2 weeks for me before it started peeling off. I was able to return and get my money back. The collar is not well made for an outside dog.

The adjustable buckle allows the collar to loosen with wear. It doesn't maintain size very well. I have used other adjustable collars which maintain size. This one does not. It won't fall off, but if caught would allow a determined pet to escape from the collar. Under some conditions that could be good. For my use it wasn't so I replaced it with another adjustable collar that maintains the collar size.

We bought this collar for our animal shelter rescued American Eskimo who barked ALL THE TIME. By barked all the time, I mean he barked and kept barking for 10 minutes or more. He barked at us, he barked at the other dogs, he barked at the cats, he barked at any noises inside or outside, he barked whenever someone walked in the door, he barked while he played and he barked in his kennel. The worst part was when he would start barking at 4 in the morning and not stop till we let him out at 8. For two months we tried everything we could think of, and everything a certified trainer could think of... with absolutely no luck.

The day I got it I rubbed in against a hard surface and touched the tips. I did that several times (to get it to go up as high as I could). It startles you a lot; it really doesn't hurt, even all the way up. If you do that yourself, remember to take out the battery so that it will reset down to the lowest shock level. It takes a couple of hours to reset itself back down, and taking the battery out and then putting it back in will restart it.

The first day I put it on my dog he barked up to the 3rd or 4th setting before he gave a yelp and stopped barking. It was the kind of yelp he does when he is rough housing with the other dogs; the yelp that says "okay, you win, I give up" NOT "I'm in pain". We used it every evening after work and through the night... for about 2 weeks. Now we might have to put it on him once a week for a couple of hours, just as a reminder. He almost never barks in the house anymore, and when he does it is just one bark and he is done. Periodically throughout the week when he is quiet (like when we walk in the door and he doesn't bark at us) we walk over and give him a treat, to reinforce the good behavior.

I think the product is great. I don't usually like products like this, but there are some dogs that just won't learn any other way. We rescued our dog from the animal shelter and his bad barking habit was already drilled into him... this was all we could do to fix it. Once your dog learns what happens it shouldn't take very long for him to realize that barking is not good... then just reinforce the good behavior when it happens. Hope this helps.

The level of stimuation is similar to the "hand buzzer" joke toys.

Dogs like to be good. This stimulation is far more humane than all the accumulated "Bad Dogs!" they would have gotten while we tried to train them out of thier natural behaviour.

It works pretty fast too. When the dogs were trained we removed the collar. When they reverted to barking we put it back on. Now we just have to show it to them and they quiet down.

I have 3 small dogs, two doxies and one peke. The dominant doxie would get the other two barking like mad. When she was in bark mode nothing would stop her and I've read and watched Cesar Milan (who I still love!) and tried so many techniques. I bought this product to quiet my golden lab. He would sit outside and bark a very high pitched, excited bark, at everything all day long. If I went outside, he'd be quiet, but who has time to sit with the dog all day??

When this collar arrived, I put it straight onto the dog. He barked about 5 times, figured out he didn't like the result and has been quiet ever since. He's also alot less hyper than before. I suspect if I take the collar off, he'll remain quiet. But if he starts up again, the collar will be put right back on.

My cat had me at wits end. He wanted to be on the counters all the time. I'd come home to find cat litter on the counter which is gross. He stays clear now. The secret is to put it where the cat likes to jump to then once they learn to avoid that spot move it to the next place they choose to jump up to. I think they remember the spots to avoid (at least my cat did). This product is made of cheap materials but it works and thats what counts. I highly recommend to owners of stubborn cats.

I've owned a smaller scatmat for years, and can't say enough good things about it. For keeping our cats away from places they shouldn't be, it's 100% effective. When it came time to protect a larger area (our cats scrabble at our bedroom slider for hours on end which is fine if you don't require sleep), I shelled out for this larger mat but beware, the mat you will receive is not the one displayed in the photo or described in the product narrative. This (different) model is branded "petsafe" rather than "scatmat," and the controller is "paw shaped" rather than rectangular although the shape of the controller makes no difference itself, this particular variety does NOT have a three-speed intensity control (as promised, and as does the original "scatmat"). This is important to me because the single setting offered in this model is quite a jolt maybe not harmful, but more than I want to subject my little cats to, even once. I keep my original scatmat on the lowest setting, which is just fine. This "new" mat also seems to work erratically after it discharges it won't discharge again for some time, usually minutes. The controller is also difficult to figure out and use (and yes, I read the manual), and is very non-intuitive. This is a far cry from the original easy-to-use scatmat with the rectangular controller and three-speed setting, and I'm puzzled why Amazon is not sending the item described in the photo and product description. I sent mine back (easy enough), and was lucky enough to find an original scatmat on another site more expensive, but worth the price. And tonight I sleep.

My husband and I purchased our first home last year a 1908 fixer-upper that captured our hearts. We decided to choose design themes and furniture from the Art Deco and Machine Age eras. We are the proud parents of two very ornery Siamese cats, one seal point and one flame point. They are the loves of our lives, but oh how they love to test us. They KNOW they aren't to be on tables or countertops, and are to use scratching posts for their clawing. They're very smart. However, one of the ottomans in our new furniture set was just too tempting. Within 24 hours, we found claw marks up and down one edge of the ottomans, clearly the target of focused attack. We immediately started our desperate search to find an effective deterrent.

I started with cat lover/owner forums. Most of these focused on the sprays and oils that didn't work, and "just getting used to not having nice things if you want to have cats in your home". We knew this wasn't the answer, so our hopes soared when I read a pet owner talking about the "Scat Mat". We then focused our reading on this product by Contech, noting that it rendered high reviews and was safe to use. We ordered two.

They arrived within two days and we were quite excited to put them to use. We placed one on the couch and one over the ottoman that had been clawed. Being huge fans of all things 'new' entering the house, the cats were immediately interested. The female cat investigated the mat on the couch, stepped on it gingerly, got the static charge and took off running never to set foot on any part of the red leather furniture to date. The male Siamese was fascinated with the mat that was draped over the ottoman. He sat next to the ottoman, placed his paw on the mat to prepare to hop onto it and gets zapped. He looks at the mat incredulously, as if to say "What the..?" Then does it again. Twice. He finally decides that the static shock isn't worth the trouble and he can't outsmart it. He leaves the room and sulks. Finally we found something that works!!

We rearranged the mats on the furniture over the coming week (one on a chair, the other on the couch then one on an ottoman, and another on the back of a chair) to keep the kitties guessing. It has been the most effective indoor pet deterrent we have ever seen. The great thing about it is, once the pet learns the specific lesson (stay off the couch!) it can be rolled up to be used another day with another application (stay off the desk/counter/vanity!). There are even long, narrow mats that can prevent the pet from wanting to enter a room (place on the floor across a doorway). The three intensity settings provide versatility and the battery usage is minimal. The static charge emitted is akin to a good 'zap' you may experience from a doornob after shuffling around in flannel PJs in the winter.
