Tri-Tronics Sport Junior G3 Training Collar

This is electronic dog collar is excellent. We have a young Jack Russell with a mind of her own and selective hearing. When I take her for walks in the field and take her off the leash, she has a tendency to run straight for the fenced dogs that line the right-of-way fields. Until getting this collar I spent a vast majority of our time walking over to the fences, leashing her, and taking her away. Often frustrated I would simply go home. All that ended with the Tri-Tronics Sport Junior. Now when I call her name she stops. When I tap the button on setting 2 she stops, turns, and runs. After 4 or 5 outings I seldom have to push the button as she is now reacting to my calls. I can't go on about how enjoyable this collar has made our walks. Now I even have a Chunk-It launcher and balls and we play catch. This is NOT what I would have done without the collar. I simply couldn't trust her to be that far away from me. While I haven't had to try out the full 1/4 mile distance, I can confirm the Junior G3 does works at 150 yards.

The red LED is also pretty awesome feature. We were walking the field and it was already dark. We stirred up a rabbit and off the dog went in pursuit of the rabbit. Before I knew it the dog and rabbit were out of my headlamp's view. Had it not been for the glowing LED I wouldn't have known where she went. Not only did the collar let me track the dog, a short continuous burst on setting 2 got her attention and she broke off the chase and returned to me.

Also, I thought I'd write up a little section on the levels of stimulation from this collar. I tried it on (it's only fair and the collar length out of the box is probably big enough for a cow.) I was surprised at just how light the stimulation was. Level 1 was barely noticeable literally I had to the hold the button to feel it. 2 was almost like a slight tickle the interesting part is that I keep the device on 2 for the dog and it's typically plenty to stimulate her attention. 3 is slightly more than 2 but and the stimulation is noticeable. 4 is about what I initially expected 1 to be. 5 is a little more than 4. 6 gets your attention quickly. 6 is the highest setting and it's uncomfortable more surprising than anything, it doesn't by any means hurt, it's just uncomfortable. I would say 6 is a big jump from 5 (just my opinion)but I don't have an electric meter built in to my skin to confirm. I was really surprised by the lack of jolt in these settings, I really did expect them to throw a lot more stimulation. With that being said, the 6 setting seem to be more than enough because I've never had to go any higher than a 3.

Another thing, we now spend our time chasing balls from the chunk-it as we walk. She spends a vast majority of the time sprinting after the ball and bringing it back. She can breath just fine throughout. She can drink water. She can bark (even out of breath a good/bad trait of Jack Russell's.) My point, the collar does not seem to obstruct her breathing.

I have a basset and they are notoriously slow, stubborn learners. I got him at a year and a half so training him should be that much more difficult. But thanks to the Tronics, "Patrick" has responded to "here" and "heel" beautifully. He still has some issues but considering and we haven't worked on "sit' yet but I fully expect him to do well there too.

He didn't like the collar probably because of his very loose neck skin which didn't make good contact consistently. Sometimes, I must have zapped him a bit too hard, causing him to react strongly. Eventually I found the number 4 signal strength worked best for him.

What's amazing about this training is that I have only used the device 5 times; he caught on that quickly. The DVD training program helped immensely. It pays to watch each segment a few times; there's a lot there.

I purchased my Tri-Tronics Sport Junior on December 21st, by February 1st the product no longer works, and I am a day late and a dollar short on my Amazon return policy.

The collar/ receiver and transmitter have gone through several batteries each, approximately $25 worth. I contacted Tri-Tronics customer service and received a woman who should not work in customer service, as she has no listening skills. With every description of the problem and my remedy (I.E. I replaced the batteries, 2 sets in each part and cleaned the contacts) the clam at customer service replied, "you need to replace the batteries".

Well no kidding...I already explained that.

She finally commented, "If you let the batteries drain too far the receiver/ collar processor will fail and the 2 parts (transmitter and receiver) will no longer communicate, you need to send the item back."

I don't remember reading that in the instruction book...

Lets see how this fiasco will turn out, until then I am without a training collar, and my GSD will have to go back in a pinch collar.

Don't buy this product from Amazon as it will probably fail and they won't help you get your money back. If you do still buy one, go to a store and keep your receipt so you have a better chance of getting your money back and buying a better product.

Very happy with overall use of this item. Straight-forward and easy to understand, made a difference as soon as we put it on the dog...he knew what it was as we had one before. A little disappointed that there isn't a pitch option before actually having to use the shock mode, but that was my fault for not reading up on. Overall happy with the product, like having a different dog when out for walks in the country.

I purchased the wire and flag accessory kit when I purchased the Petsafe Sport dog electronic containment system because I wanted to make sure I had enough wire during installation. I did have enough wire with the start up kit (fenced in approximately an acre) but will save the accessory kit in case I ever move or need to replace the existing wire. I am very satisfied with this containment system and wish I went through the trouble to put it in years ago. Both of my lab mix male dogs (1 year old and 10 year old) were trained in just 3 days after installation. I live in the country and the dogs were starting to bark and chase after the bikers, joggers and most recently the neighbors this system totally put a stop to all of their attitude and now they just bark a bark of greetings from behind their invisible fence.

We LOVE our SportDog underwire kit! We ordered this a year or so ago. It is doing GREAT! Our dogs were in for the "shock" of their life. We showed them the boundary and it only took one little buzz to get their attention. We have a lab mix (85pds) & a weimaraner (95 lbs) and both of them are quite obedient when it comes to the boundary now. When we first trained them we took them out and walked them to the lines. We had the flags up and everything. One of them eventually crossed and thats all it took. Mind you, for the next week we had to CARRY them outside. They were so scared of being shocked. It just took some time for them to realize that they wouldn't get shocked unless they heard the beep and felt the vibration. They became comfortable in our front yard after about a week or two. It took about a month for them to realize the back yard is safe. And THANK GOD after about four months they decided to go back in the field. (That is where they used to poop, and after they became scared started pooping in my front yard). We have three acres of land, but live on a busy four lane highway. It is so nice being able to let them out unsupervised to play and do their business! They have actually learned the complete boundary on their own. I don't care where my husband and I walk, they know exactly how far to walk (flags were taken down a long time ago) and stop. They've even become comfortable with the vibration. They know thats when to back up. It doesn't scare them, but they know to back up. Now the beeping noise is a different story. They know at the end of that beeping is usually a shock. They are PETRIFIED of ANY noise that sounds like it! We hear that TONE often while watching TV and our poor Weimaraner (95lbs Mind you) jumps on the top of the sofa against the wall and starts shaking. I guess its the same pitch as their collar, but it scares the devil out of him. He thinks he's about to be shocked. So, as you're reading this.. you're probably thinking.. Geez.. they shouldn't have put the setting so high. lol.. No, our BIG dogs are just Little babies. We've had our dog's collars on the 2nd setting. I think there are five. We've had it on level 2 the whole time, and have had no need to increase it. My husband gets mad at me because sometimes I will let them out without the collar on. Doesn't matter. They aren't going close to the boundary line. Thank you SportDOG for making me life so much less complicated!!

I have a very large and stubborn giant schnauzer 8 month old puppy (who weighs about 90 pounds) and this product works great! I was worried the stimulus wouldn't be strong enough to divert him but it worked great. Once he hears the beeps he stops and turns around. We have him in the back yard but were so frustrated with him because he wouldn't stay off of the porch and leave my furniture alone....enter the wireless pet fence, problem solved. We ran this fence around our patio as instructed and it works like a charm. He went from devil dog to angel at the flick of a switch. Now our evenings on the porch are very enjoyable! Only advice is to read the instructions first and be very careful with the thin wire when stringing it. Don't crimp it or else it will cause a lot of heart ache, once buried however the thin wire is not a concern at all.

Update to review after several days of use: it would be well worth your money to spend an extra $40 and make sure you get a rechargeable collar. the batteries cost $4 to $20 each on this collar, are not rechargeable and they do not make a rechargeable 6volt battery. The batteries go dead in about 3 days and then your dog will be right back to his antics unless you spend a small fortune on a stockpile of batteries.

I would not recommend anyone buying this product. We bought one, hooked it up and the transmitter did not work. WE had to pay an addition 16 dollars that we were told it 'was not company policy' just to return the first bad system. We waited a few more weeks, received a new system which also does NOT WORK. The transmitter is also faulty on the second one. So now we are out our original cost of 70 dollars plus the additional 16 we spent trying to get a system that actually worked. O and dont forget the little fact that the name of the system is "Wireless Fence System". Guess what? Its not WIRELESS. You have to run wire just to find out it doesnt work. Do not waste your money.

The PetSafe collars work just fine with it, so we assumed these would as well, since they are compatible with the petsafe system. No luck. Neither collar worked... Bummer since these are so cheap compared to the SportDog and PetSafe brands.

The collar works great and was worth buying. My dogs don't get out anymore. I recommend this collar if you have dogs. They were prompt in shipping I out.

EzyDog Checkmate Martingale-Style Dog Collar

I originally bought the medium size collar for my approx 60lb pitmix. It was too tight to work right. Amazon was super helpful in arranging the return and also waived the shipping cost for the larger size, since my initial purchase had included other items which qualified me for free-ship. Ok back to the collar. I have been looking for a collar that would allow me to "remind" my dog not to pull when walking. She is pretty good at loose leash walking but will pull when excited. Since she is working on her Good Canine Citizen and Therapy certifications a choke type collar was not an option as they are not allowed. This collar allows a little tightening .. enough to get the dogs attention without hurting it. I chose blaze orange because we frequent a nearby state park that allows hunting. I asked her trainer if it was ok to leave it on her while crated. She adjusted it so that when it is tightened it is no tighter than her original collar (2 fingers worth of room) and said that it was safe so long as it was not adjusted to be tighter. My dog loves the collar because when she is not tugging it is much looser than her last collar. I like it because, first of all it appears to work for her. She will tug a little but after I correct her once or twice she realizes that it is not good to tug and settles down, secondly I like the construction of the collar it appears to be pretty heavy duty and has a nice specific place to put tags so there won't be in any mistakes (putting the leash on the tag ring and risking her getting loose). I also like that it is very visible, I can see her in our backyard with just the light of the moon or our very dim porch light. I was originally concerned that her big ole'pittie neck wouldn't even feel the correction but that doesn't seem to be a problem. Also I was concerned that since it was sooooo loose that it might slip over her head when she is in the yard playing. That may happen but since it is blaze orange I am fairly certain I will find it. All this being said we have only had it for a week. I am hoping to get a good run out of this collar. If for some reason it fails I will certainly change/edit my review. I hope this helps you to decide which collar to buy your pup.

This is a very nice collar and I like the idea of the snap instead of just putting it over my dogs head like all other martingale collars. The one and only issue I have is when it tightens the metal clasp turns sideways and kinks causing it not to release without intervention. My dog pulls and it goes from loose to tight and the only way to make it loose again it by playing with it. It is actually very difficult sometimes. If this can be fixed it would be the best martingale collar out there.

I have been looking both in brick & mortar and on-line stores for this type of collar it is perfect! It glides nicely so when you have to "check" your dog it doesn't get stuck and restrict them from breathing like the chain collars. My dog is part chihuahua and part rat terrier who walks well on a leash, but often likes to just stop and sniff when we are trying to walk for a longer distance. A simple "check" and we are on our way! I also love that there's another little plastic hoop where you can attach their dog tags so they don't get in the way when you are walking with the leash hooked up. Brilliant! It also has some reflective stitching on it which I think is great. I've already recommended this to others. I'll be ordering it in other colors for sure!

I run a dog rescue. We purchased this puppy pad holder along with puppy pads. It has worked really well. It holds the pad in place; no shifting, no rolling up, no spills. Sometimes the latches are stubborn, but other than that it is a must-have!

This product was great as it forced her to step inside the pad holder most of the time. She did start to get lazy and put just 1foot in and the other out towards the end. But that's when we trained to ring the bell to go out to potty & pee.

But this certainly did help as there was a lot less wiping to do!

How can something that's so simple in concept be executed so horribly. The idea of a potty pad holder was elementary enough that I thought I would just purchase whichever one fits the pads I currently own. This product is flimsy, hard to use as the sides that lock the pad in font fit together properly unless you have it at a precise angle (not s problem you can afford when trying to remove a pee soaked pad). And this isn't even the cheapest on offered on Amazon! Do yourself a favor and buy a potty pad holder (they are lifesavers) just don't get this one!

What a great invention! I have an 82 pound black lab mix and when it is dark out and we are walking in the neighborhood, I think my neighbors are happy to know that we're coming and instead of being scared about a big black very strong dog, they're focused on how cool his glowing collar is! Also invaluable for dog park romping now that the sun is setting sooner. ONLY minor negative is that when my dog shakes his head, he winds up somehow turning the light off. But other than that I'm a huge fan!

I have an 80lb. Golden and the Large barely makes it. (I can still fit several fingers under it but I tend to have him wear the collar loose as I don't use it for control he has a prong collar for that.) They can be adjusted in so a larger collar wouldn't be a problem. I got the green one and now I want a matching leash. I hope they carry it!

A great price for a great product they work great in the dark. Lights up our whole dog and all of the ground around him, as he walks. Batteries are easy to change (just had to check). Only con is we bought the largest collars (1green and 1 red) for our German Shepard, but they are a bit tight on our dog's neck. I just wish they had one size larger. Outside of that great to be able to see our baby in the dark and not worry were he went.

I use this collar only for when Burger and I walk, run and bike at night. It's perfect for that! Very visible without being just crazy annoying. The only thing is, he's an 80 lb dog and this collar fits him only it's largest setting. Too bad they don't make a larger size. And, I don't think it would be a great every-day collar/or would be good to afix his leash to. I don't think it's sturdy enough for that.

It's perfect for it's purpose, though. Also the batteries held up for me. Have used it every night for about 4 months and no problems yet.

Forget Ceasar the dog whisperer! I always thought these electrical collars were cruel. But you don't even need to use the shock, just the vibrate to teach your dog to stop by behaviors. We couldn't take our 1/2 lab, 1/2 golden retriever to the dog park, she would play too rough with little dogs, barking non-stop at them in an aggressive manner, occassionally humping. The only downside is the collar part, you can't turn off, so the batteries need to be removed to make sure they don't get drained. That's a bit of a hassle, but for $20, compared to other collars like this that are $100 -$250, I'll remove the batteries! a recommendation is to always carry spare batteries to make sure you're able to use the unit when needed. I read that other people said this trainer thing was broken or didn't work...I don't know what they're talking about. Maybe be sure to get the correct size, small, med, or large for your dog. Seriously, the Best $20 I've ever spent, wish I would have gotten this years ago, my dog is 6 yrs old! You can teach a older dog new tricks!!! Amazing!!!

I came to realize that this item might not be the best way to train your animal, so I never used it. I did however try it on my hand and realized that you can set it to vibrate and achieve the same effect once the animal is conditioned to the treatment. In its lowest setting, it is not nearly as unpleasant as one might think and I still believe that this may be a good product for the right owner and the right dog, as long as it is used properly. Good product for the price.

I love this product! Easy to use and my naughty puppy has improved in just one day of using it. As for the other reviews, I had to get my husband to get it to go, there is a sequence to it and I didn't get it the first time round. You have to follow the instructions to the letter.

Best harness for sensitive skin and controlling fear-based pulling.

I initially bought this harness at a local pet store and paid $38 for it. This harness is made out of very soft nylon with rolled edges and does not irritate. The product has an excellent design that allows for good control of the dog even when pulling or in stressful situations and several options including hooking both front and back hooks, using hands-free leash, etc . . .

My 44lb AmStaff is not a chewer, but is a scratcher, and was able to scratch a thread out. . . combined with pulling, the harness unraveled. I took the harness back to local store, and they exchanged it, said the thread must have been defective. I think it's just a side effect of the type of nylon used. .. appears to rip on sharp objects (like dog nails). Do not leave dog unattended in harness or they could scratch out threads.

After two weeks of use, the second harness, I used to restrain dog while grooming, and the dog pulled so hard, the plastic buckle shattered. This time I called the manufacturer (Coastal Pet Products) I sent the harness back to the manufacturer, and they promptly and politely exchanged it. . .but sent a note with the replacement that they believed it had been chewed. IT HAD NOT BEEN CHEWED. The buckle shattered when combination of my hand gripping with her extreme pulling was applied.

The third harness, I carefully inspected before using for defects. . .I used for three days, and loved it so much, then my best friend borrowed it for her flat coated retriever (45lbs). ..and never gave it back. She even bought a second one for her other dog. With careful vigilance of the dogs, both of those harnesses have lasted 5 months without incident.

So, In short, wonderful product in terms of design and usage but leaves something to be desired in quality and doesn't stand up to reasonable wear and tear (scratching and extreme pressure on buckle.)

I have also tried

Four Paws basic pet harness in medium(leaves awful red marks on white dog's skin and I believe encourages pulling by design but very durable.)And (recommended by dog behaviorist)Sensation harness in medium (doesn't provide same level of control in stressful situation, dog gets turned around and continues to pull, and leaves red marks on dog's skin as must be worn extremely tightly to work)

I have of course also tried the Easywalk (dog was able to pull one front leg out of it within minutes) and gentle leader (dog and I both hated it!)

This is clearly the best harness for both controlling a fearful dog and protecting sensitive skin. . .only wish it was made of more durable materials.

My dog is a medium sized (42 lb.) pit bull mix, so very strong for her size. She is not usually a bad puller, but does get excited sometimes. The front attachment on this harness is helpful when I am walking her and she sees something super interesting, like a small animal, another dog to play with, or a person to make friends with. I do not use the lead that comes with it, I use her Lupine lead. I should note, For much of the time I used this harness, I was recovering from very severe golfer's elbow in both arms, and did not have much arm strength. The harness did help me maintain control of my dog reliably.

If you are looking for a miracle control tool for a large, powerful dog that drags you around, I don't think you are going to find one. You have to have patience, and train them that you are the boss. Classes will help. Choke chains, prong collars, head collars, front-attach harnesses, and any other special harnesses and collars may help a little, but ultimately you just need to take the time to teach the dog to respect you as alpha.

I have an overprotective Bouvier des Flandres so I was advised to use a wire basket muzzle when training him. I think the hardest part about the muzzle is doing the measurements to order the right size. The first one I ordered was a size too big so I just sent it back and exchanged it for the next size smaller. It is a little expensive, but this is a situation where you get what you pay for.

I got this muzzle for our new dog after she got into a fight with our other dog that resulted in a vet tripand after we tried a kennel and she ate the bottom of it, then ate the carpet underneath it. I wanted a safe alternative to have her comfortable without having to be kenneled on the concrete porch outside while we are not home and this was awesome. It was pretty hard to get the measurements right but this size worked ok on the tightest notches and she could not get it off (but it was still loose). We have since stopping using the muzzle as she is better now with destroying things and aggression at the other dog (was only food aggression) but I will likely continue to use it when I take her to the vet as she is very timid and sadly resorts to snapping at vets in the past so since she would be muzzled anyway I find it more responsible to just come into the vet with her already muzzled and ready to go in safely.

I was a bit skeptical when we first saw these in PetsMart. My dog is still young and has not yet experienced TRUE bad doggie breath, but I'm fighting a war before it begins. She absolutely loved it, and it made her breath smell just like fresh rosemary. Now anytime she is even in the deadest of sleep and she hears that tin jingle she comes running.

Our dogs still love them and beg for them, but they don't do a thing for their breath. In the past the Yip Yaps were white and had a peppermint smell to them. When I received mine in the mail, the little clip to adjust the nose piece wouldn't clip in place. I quickly fixed it with a safety pin, and we were off.

I just recently purchased this, so my dog is still getting use to it. My dog is like a little horse and when I received this and took it out of the package it immediately reminded me of a horse harness. I am using it to train my dog so I can walk him. He is so big and has so much power, that with our prior choke chain and chain leash I could not walk him. With the Gentle Leader Head Collar his demeanor is changed and he is a lot calmer. I am now training him to walk with me before I take the big jump and take him to the park. He is still getting use to the head collar and as soon as everything comes together I will take him for a walk. He is also a stubborn dog so this is taking a little longer. The quality of the head collar is very light, but well stitched. I thought the plastic piece would break, but so far so good. I find that by controlling his head, I can control him a lot better. I can't wait to be able to take him for walks.

My two shelties are a little overweight, and this is one of the only dog treats that provides any information on calories. These snacks stay soft in their resealable bag or in sealed baggies, have a pleasant but not overwhelming smell that my girls really like, and taste delicious according to my shelties. I appreciate it that they are very easy to break in half or into quarters even with my arthritic fingers and make terrific training treats and rewards that I can be sure are not loaded with calories. Bought these for my little Pomeranian so that I could give her lots of treats without making her a little fatty. She's still slim and active and enjoys these treats to no end! One tip I would give is to be sure that you do not let them dry out. If you don't seal the bag perfectly before putting it away they become hard and ashy :( My dog still eats them, obviously, she doesn't care! But she liked them much more when they were soft. This happened as I neared the end of my first bag, so next time I just kept most sealed up and just took out some in a smaller ziplock for more active use. (Since I treated her every day, going to the main package open/closing it was multiple times to risk the whole batch!) Other than that, which isn't really their fault, totally my fault! I recommend these for sure! It's much better than giving your dog human food or high calorie treats they don't need!

My puppy loves these treats. My husband and I sometimes break them up even smaller and that's so easy to do because they are soft. They smell nice and meaty too. I am glad they offer a low calorie option.

If anyone else is worried about their dog gaining weight, this product is a good option and I've also purchased 1/2 calorie treats from another brand. He likes both a lot.
