Tri-Tronics Sport Junior G3 Training Collar

This is electronic dog collar is excellent. We have a young Jack Russell with a mind of her own and selective hearing. When I take her for walks in the field and take her off the leash, she has a tendency to run straight for the fenced dogs that line the right-of-way fields. Until getting this collar I spent a vast majority of our time walking over to the fences, leashing her, and taking her away. Often frustrated I would simply go home. All that ended with the Tri-Tronics Sport Junior. Now when I call her name she stops. When I tap the button on setting 2 she stops, turns, and runs. After 4 or 5 outings I seldom have to push the button as she is now reacting to my calls. I can't go on about how enjoyable this collar has made our walks. Now I even have a Chunk-It launcher and balls and we play catch. This is NOT what I would have done without the collar. I simply couldn't trust her to be that far away from me. While I haven't had to try out the full 1/4 mile distance, I can confirm the Junior G3 does works at 150 yards.

The red LED is also pretty awesome feature. We were walking the field and it was already dark. We stirred up a rabbit and off the dog went in pursuit of the rabbit. Before I knew it the dog and rabbit were out of my headlamp's view. Had it not been for the glowing LED I wouldn't have known where she went. Not only did the collar let me track the dog, a short continuous burst on setting 2 got her attention and she broke off the chase and returned to me.

Also, I thought I'd write up a little section on the levels of stimulation from this collar. I tried it on (it's only fair and the collar length out of the box is probably big enough for a cow.) I was surprised at just how light the stimulation was. Level 1 was barely noticeable literally I had to the hold the button to feel it. 2 was almost like a slight tickle the interesting part is that I keep the device on 2 for the dog and it's typically plenty to stimulate her attention. 3 is slightly more than 2 but and the stimulation is noticeable. 4 is about what I initially expected 1 to be. 5 is a little more than 4. 6 gets your attention quickly. 6 is the highest setting and it's uncomfortable more surprising than anything, it doesn't by any means hurt, it's just uncomfortable. I would say 6 is a big jump from 5 (just my opinion)but I don't have an electric meter built in to my skin to confirm. I was really surprised by the lack of jolt in these settings, I really did expect them to throw a lot more stimulation. With that being said, the 6 setting seem to be more than enough because I've never had to go any higher than a 3.

Another thing, we now spend our time chasing balls from the chunk-it as we walk. She spends a vast majority of the time sprinting after the ball and bringing it back. She can breath just fine throughout. She can drink water. She can bark (even out of breath a good/bad trait of Jack Russell's.) My point, the collar does not seem to obstruct her breathing.

I have a basset and they are notoriously slow, stubborn learners. I got him at a year and a half so training him should be that much more difficult. But thanks to the Tronics, "Patrick" has responded to "here" and "heel" beautifully. He still has some issues but considering and we haven't worked on "sit' yet but I fully expect him to do well there too.

He didn't like the collar probably because of his very loose neck skin which didn't make good contact consistently. Sometimes, I must have zapped him a bit too hard, causing him to react strongly. Eventually I found the number 4 signal strength worked best for him.

What's amazing about this training is that I have only used the device 5 times; he caught on that quickly. The DVD training program helped immensely. It pays to watch each segment a few times; there's a lot there.

I purchased my Tri-Tronics Sport Junior on December 21st, by February 1st the product no longer works, and I am a day late and a dollar short on my Amazon return policy.

The collar/ receiver and transmitter have gone through several batteries each, approximately $25 worth. I contacted Tri-Tronics customer service and received a woman who should not work in customer service, as she has no listening skills. With every description of the problem and my remedy (I.E. I replaced the batteries, 2 sets in each part and cleaned the contacts) the clam at customer service replied, "you need to replace the batteries".

Well no kidding...I already explained that.

She finally commented, "If you let the batteries drain too far the receiver/ collar processor will fail and the 2 parts (transmitter and receiver) will no longer communicate, you need to send the item back."

I don't remember reading that in the instruction book...

Lets see how this fiasco will turn out, until then I am without a training collar, and my GSD will have to go back in a pinch collar.

Don't buy this product from Amazon as it will probably fail and they won't help you get your money back. If you do still buy one, go to a store and keep your receipt so you have a better chance of getting your money back and buying a better product.

Very happy with overall use of this item. Straight-forward and easy to understand, made a difference as soon as we put it on the dog...he knew what it was as we had one before. A little disappointed that there isn't a pitch option before actually having to use the shock mode, but that was my fault for not reading up on. Overall happy with the product, like having a different dog when out for walks in the country.

I have three rescued german shepherd girls. They love to bark at every dog that walks by. This has become so exciting for them they bark louder, longer and more often. So I fear for my neighbors and bought three collars.

Having three dogs I was able to observe three different behaviors. I set up all collars according to directions. I adjusted the sensitivity very low, about 20% and left them on "tone only" (no shock). All collars worked perfectly, making the warning tone. This caused no decrease in barking. I now set collars to "low shock".

Dog #1 figured the new system out in 1 hour and now just sits down and not bark at all. I have removed the collar completely and she remains a quiet dog.

Dog #2 was the loudest and would continue to bark through the mild shocks. I increased the shock level and eventually this wore her down after a few days. She now only wears the collar in the evenings and its back on "low shock". I'd say her barking has decreased 60%.

Dog #3 figured the system out and has decreased barking 80%. She constantly is testing the collar by barking quietly and gradually increasing the noise until a shock happens. I placed the collar on "tone only" and this works most of the time. She wears the collar as needed.

Overall I am very pleased with the collars. I hate having to resort to this, but they were getting out of control. The biggest success is: they only bark if they actually see another dog. No more false alarms. They don't bark as loud and they stop barking immediately when the dog goes out of sight.

Dog #2 wears the collar every night, but the others are "as needed". I think thats a good success rate and better than a noise ticket from the police.

I think these are an excellent collar and are not expensive.

The stubborn five-year-old German Shepherd we adopted two months ago barks at people passing by, especially when she is in the car. Her bark sounds so loud and aggressive that it startles people and embarrasses us.

We did some research and found the Dogtek bark collar and decided to give it a try. She was shocked a couple of times at first but now she only lets out a low growl and doesn't bark. Not to simply rely on the collar, we are also working with her on her obedience training. This product really works. We will get another one for our other adopted German Shepherd dog.

I put this collar on my crazy terrier for the first time yesterday afternoon. For the first time in months, I actually got to sleep for six hours straight without his frantic barking at every noise, waking me up all night long. I did as recommended and tested it for a few hours while staying right next to him(before bedtime). His first ear-splitting barking spell was met with the sequence of beeps and as he kept it up, a short impulse. No yelping or evidence of pain, but he stopped instantly and we never got past the warning beep after that. Great product; works just as described and I wish I had bought it two years ago. I give it 4 stars instead of 5, only because my kit was missing the small screwdriver.

Product works!

Company delivered quicker than promised. Directions were easy to understand.

Took trial and error to determine the proper sensitivity for my dog, but once that was achieved, it was very successful. Recommend that one starts at the lowest sensitivity and work up. Took me 4 or 5 tries. Have been using it for almost 2 months now. Our dog quickly figured it out, and the warning tone is now all that is needed for control of his barking. Here are some additional notes:

1) I've used electrical tape to muffle ALL other noise from his tags to prevent false warnings.

2) We do have an invisible fence as well, and are aware that others have had an issue with this. We are not using both of these products together, and have no comment on possible issues there. Our dog is 5 years old, and has been well trained on the yard boundaries. We use the invisible fence when we are able to personally correct any barking issues, and so far, that has worked well. We mostly have him wearing it during the times of day when issues were developing.

3) Our dog was on a downer at first. Not being able to bark at the neighbors cats, etc... seemed like it was depressing for him, could have been me projecting though. He is well adjusted to it now. Be patient, it is in all parties best interest.

4) He has figured out that he can still make the occasional bark.

5) Once he "learned" what was going on, I reset the device to tone only. Our dog had that figured out in one. He didn't bark as much, as the tone appeared to break his concentration, but it was only a matter of time. I reset the device and he got it right away. I would still like to reset to tone only, but will wait.

6) Overall barking is down even when not wearing the device.

I had some trepedation toward buying this. I have used other bark deterents, which were of limited effectiveness, at best. We have a beagle and a dachshund, which we have had for some time. A few months ago, we added a rescue basset hound to the mix. Our neighbor has two large dogs, which are left out often to bark incesantly. This would cause the basset to bark whether or not he was outside. He is loud and persistent. He also barked at everyone and thing that passed within view. We have a national park hiking trail behind our house, so that is a frequent event. I made some progress with him. He would stop barking when I gave the command, but, after a few moments start again. So, enters the Dogtek collar. As the basset is a short hair dog, I used the small contacts. I turned the unit on and left the sensitivity setting at the factory default, which is "medium." I put the collar on him and adjusted it so that it was snug when I put 2 fingers side by side between the collar and the dog. Then I let him out on the porch, which faces the neighbors with the barking dogs. My dog let out 2 barks in rapid succession, paused, and let out another, much more restrained bark. Although I saw no direct reaction to the collar's "correction," his barking stopped and changed to some whining. Although the whining did not trigger any action from the collar, the dog apparently realized the ineffectiveness of the whining and stopped that, too. Since then, he has only let out 2 independent barks. Peace at last! Sort of, but I'll get to that later. Although the reviews I read did not mention it, the correction process of the collar is progressive. That is, if the dog barks, it initially just beeps twice, with no shock. If the dog barks again within 30 seconds, it beeps 6 times, again with no shock. If the dog continues to bark, the collar then emits a correction shock. This is important for 2 reasons: First, the dog will soon associate the beeps with an impending shock and thus stop barking at the beep and forego future shocks. This is good as you don't want your dog to be subjected to repeated shocks. The other reason this is good is because, after a short while, the dog will figure out that he can bark if he waits a sufficient time between barks. This is good because dogs are supposed to bark and there are times it should be allowed to bark in a reasonable manner. So, the bottom line is, within a few minutes of wearing the collar, the dog's barking problem was gone. I plan to use it for another day or two to reinforce (NOTE: the collar should not be left on the dog for more than 8 hour a day). After that, if all is well, I won't need to use it regularly, if at all.

Okay, now to the "sort of" mentioned above: The dachshund has a Napolian complex and has a habit of barking to demand something. He will be the next recipient of the collar. I'll report on the results of that.

We have tried to use this multiple times and it never works. My husband is a golfer, he knows how to swing a club. The ball either wont fly out of the holder, or you have to barely place it in the holder so it can fly out and then it just flies a few feet with no control. We have used the ball included, old balls, tennis balls, smooth balls, makes no difference what the ball texture is, it either is too loose or too tight. I wish I kept the receipt, I would return it if I had.

Generally I love devices that help launch a ball so a dog can get a bit more exercise. However, I dislike this one because the ball leaves the ground and goes up. If your dog is eager to grab the ball, they can easily get in the way and be struck by the club or by the ball leaving at a high speed. I've seen a few dogs at the park injured with this product and similar ones. It's much safer to use a Chuckit! Pocket Ball Launcher (Colors Vary). Not only will you not injure your dog, but it's easier to launch. I've seen one dog try to get the ball before the person has time to "swing" the club. All in all, there are much better options than this considering the Chuckit is also cheaper.

Premier Easy Walk Harness

My dog is reasonably well behaved but the instant he sees another dog when we're out walking he pulls so hard I'm afraid he's going to damage my shoulders. I tried several different anti-pulling harnesses and collars and this one worked perfectly! At one point I tried the Gentle Leader head collar, but my dog hated having something on his face so this harness version was much better for him. Since the leash attaches at the dog's chest and contracts if the dog pulls, there are two benefits: (1) When the dog pulls, the harness contracts around the front legs making walking awkward so it breaks their attention on whatever they were pulling towards, and (2) since the leash attaches at the chest, when the dog pulls it snaps him around to face you which gives you a chance to correct him and redirect his attention. Ultimately, the dog's weight works against him versus the owner having to pull back. Now when my dog sees another dog and goes to pull, he immediately stops and rethinks that move since he's instantly pulled around to face me, without me having to do anything at all. A wonderful tool!

This harness is phenomenal. I was a skeptic but I wish I bought it two years ago. My dog is a large, strong and athletic 3.5 year old and I struggled over the past two years we've had him to teach him leash manners. We have made a lot of progress but walking him was still a chore and he pulled excessively when he saw other dogs. I have had to use a choke chain even though I was uncomfortable doing so, and was constantly having to readjust it so it was on the right place of his neck. With this harness, he does NOT try to walk in front, he does NOT try to stop and investigate every single mailbox and telephone poll, and we can approach other dogs at MY pace, not his. The harness works because it tightens across his front shoulders. If he tries to go to the side (to sniff something) or out in front (to get somewhere faster) a *gentle* tug clinches his front legs and he responds immediately. It sets the tone for the entire walk and makes the walk relaxing and enjoyable for the human, too. I was thrilled with it from the first time I used it.

If you need to correct the dog, a gentle tug (very little force) will do it. But I have also found that I correct the dog much less often than before because the harness does it automatically as soon as he puts tension on the lead (before there is any actual pulling). For example if he starts to veer towards a fire hydrant he feels a slight tightening which stops the sideways movement and then instantly releases, rewarding him for returning to the path. This is why people say it is like walking a whole new dogbecause the dog is on his very best behavior without any extra effort from the walker.

If you're skeptical because you've heard people say, "With a harness, the dog can leverage his whole weight against it and pull harder," know that this is not that type of harness. I mean, it isn't a sled dog harness, people! Because it tightens across the front legs, the dog cannot leverage his weight against it. In fact he can pull harder with a choke chain because he is able to use the strength of all four legs.

My dog and I do a lot of walking (did I mention he's large and athletic?) and I can't tell you how much I appreciate this harness. Of course I still let him pee on the occasional fire hydrant and pause to sniff a few mailboxes, but he gets more consistent exercise without the risk of neck injury. Best of all his "momma" is totally happy with his behavior. Walking him is now stress relieving instead of stress building, and I have a better relationship with my pet because of it.

This harness may not work for every dog or every human, but you must give it a try. You may be as pleasantly surprised as I was.

One final note: the harness is designed to prevent pulling forward, and works less well when trying to get the dog to continue walking if he stops to smell something. However it still exceeds a collar or choke chain in this regard, and, as described above, there is less stopping throughout the walk because of the instant corrections. Plus (in my experience anyway) teaching the dog "let's go" is much easier than teaching to walk at heel.

Of course, everyone always has suggestions on what you're doing wrong when you have a dog that just can't seem to stop pulling. I know how it feels, because I have one of those dogs. Regardless of consistant training (mine and hers,) this was the only thing that we just couldn't seem to conquer. Many suggested the "Gentle" Leader (among other things,) but after much training and size readjustments she was STILL managing to pull it off her muzzle and rub her little sniffer to a bloody mess.

Finally, I saw this harness and figured I might as well give it one last chance. I am SO glad I did!!! First time out, she had it. I was stunned. I knew she was a champion!!! : )

UPDATE...

I still think this a great product, but do have one warning. My dog went swimming while wearing her harness and afterwards, we continued on our walk. When we got home, the wet harness had rubbed her raw underneath her "armpits." We have never had this problem with the dry harness, but I would not recommend letting your dog wear it wet.

I heard about this product on the Cool Tools blog and was pretty interested. I had tried the Gentle Leader that wraps around a dogs head, but my dog hated it (I didn't like it much either) and would refuse to wear it.

I tried this one after my dog was slightly injured my a neighbors dog and the vet suggested we avoid any pressure on her neck for a while. This worked immediately and my dog loves it!!

It works very well for limiting her from pulling during a normal walk. The only thing I don't like is that it's not quite as good as a standard collar as far as keeping her inline when we are just standing around talking to people as it doesn't really control her head at all. At the same time I'm not restraining her neck and "pulling" on her which I've always hated.

I would highly recommend it for anyone that has a dog that tries to pull a little too much.

The Buddy System Belt and Leash

I have two 70 lb. pit bull mixes(think 140 lbs. of goofy muscle), and I can walk them with this system and drink a cup of coffee at the same time. Prior to the buddy system, one of my girls sprained my finger when she pulled the leash off my hand to investigate a cat. It is much more difficult for them to pull at my core strength than to pull my arm. With some training and this leash, they rarely pull at all anymore.

It is excellent for running. With regular leashes, I found myself off balance as I was holding a leash with one hand and pumping my arm with the other...not a good way to run. I used to use it exclusively for running, but I found it to be such a good system that I no longer have any other leash.

It is also great security; I never have to worry about one of them getting away from me. When I'm in the pet store, I can bring them in, browse, inspect products and pay for merchandise ... all with the completely free use of my hands.

I highly recommend getting the extend-a-buddy with the system because the default leash is too short. If I want to reign them in to keep them closer, I can either take the extension out or adjust the leash.

This isn't a passing fad for me...I've used this system for 8 years, and it would be very difficult for me to go without it.

There we were enjoying the mid-afternoon hike thru the Tucson Mountains. Hands-free walk/hikes are great. Chance (my dog)was loving the smells and fresh air. I was getting exercise with my favorite buddy. And then there was a rabbit.... Out of the box my Labrador bolts and bam! The connector from not only the waist harness but also the connector from my dog's leash to the waist hook-in broke. That is correct both connectors broke. Chance ran off determined to catch this rabbit full tilt. Only the recall command made him stop and return to me. Thank gosh for my dog trainer and all of her wisdom to teach us ("Recall") that.

So if you have an 85 pound of muscular fur who evidently likes to chase rabbits I would recommend getting a hands free jogging leash that is stronger than this one.

This style of having the leash attached to an adjustable belt is a great concept but it could use a little tweaking. There are 2 plastic clips that hang from the belt. The leash is clipped onto either of these. The clips themselves have not been strong enough to survive unexpected lunges from my 42 pound female pup. Even with the elasticized lunge buster, I have had 2 clips snap in my 1st month of use!

Other tweaking has to do with how you "store" the leash if and when you set your dog loose. The second clip, which hangs from the belt, comes with the system and allows you to plug in the collar end of the leash (or to attach a second leash, as an alternative) but when you do this, the part of the leash that is left looping in front of you is cumbersome so I wind up tucking some of it into my clothing which looks a bit weird and draws comments from others!

In conclusion, I really like the concept of this product. The manufacturer replaced my first broken leash quickly and without charge. I acknowledge my dog is very active (she's not nearly as strong a many dogs out there) but I would like the plastic clips to be heftier or better made.

(UPDATE: 6/19/2012) After over two months of solid use, I still love this product, but not for all the same reasons as before. Here are some additional thoughts:

First, if you are a runner and want to improve your performance, I highly recommend a young Siberian Husky as a personal trainer. Boundless energy and an innate desire to pull mean you can either run faster and farther, or get dragged around the neighborhood like a sled. Yes, he has learned how much he can pull when attached to the Buddy System, and does he ever pull.

At first I was pretty disappointed, but as my own speed and endurance started to improve, I realized that he was pushing me to do better. It took me months of solo running to be able to consistently go 2 miles and still, every time it was a struggle. We now regularly go 3.5 to 4.5 miles. You can't overstate the benefit of having someone there to push you just a little further when you're running out of steam. It turns out that's true whether the "someone" is a person or a dog.

I noted in other reviews that some people have had their dogs snap the Lunge Buster. I have had no such issues and my dog has certainly tried. However, the belt does gradually work itself loose as we run, and I have to stop every 15-20 minutes to re-size it. The lead also does not always slide around the belt cleanly. When it gets stuck I have to physically rotate the entire belt with my hands to free it, which somewhat defeats the purpose of a hands-free leash.

I have a year-old Husky mix puppy with HIGH energy. We take regular, long trips to the dog park so he can run himself to exhaustion and not be bouncing off the walls. Unfortunately, an infected spider bite has him wearing a Cone of Shame and on restricted activity -leash walks only! The first week or so he went nuts, and as a result so did everyone in the house.

He is 70 lbs and a big-time puller, so we use a Gentle Leader to walk him. He has never gotten used to it and hates it as much now as he did when he was 5 months old. But he doesn't like to walk -he likes to run. And even with the Gentle Leader this is not a possibility with a regular leash.

I ordered the Buddy System with the Lunge Buster attachment and crossed my fingers. The first time we went out with it, he tried to drag me forward, but apparently realized he couldn't pull my entire body, and immediately gave up trying. Now each time we go running, he tries to pull away once, but for the rest of the run he stays right beside me. The product works better than I could have hoped for.

UPDATE

I've had this for a while now and still LOVE it. One thing to note: I quickly lost the second thingy on the belt that attached to the lead. If you are walking/running only one dog I'd just keep only one on the belt at a time.

I am a runner and my running partner is an 87lb golden-doodle that likes to pull and when she sees a squirrel/rabbit/other dog she likes to lunge!!! I've been searching to find: 1) something that will keep her from lunging and pulling my arm out of the socket, 2) something so I don't have to hold the leash in my hand -it throws off my stride with 87lbs pulling on one side. This has been a wonderful solution!!

Here's what I like:

* The belt is comfortable to wear.

* The dog seems to sense she's attached to something heavier than just an arm and has stopped pulling the whole run. She still lunges, but with my center of gravity as the anchor, she's not able to almost pull me over!

* The way the belt is attached to the lead allows the lead to move around the belt. This is a surprisingly nice feature--not one I'd thought much about.

* You can unhook the lead from the belt quickly and easily. I've tried several other brands and when other leashed dogs approached and the inevitable "sniff dance" started the leads got tangled. With the other brands I had to unhook the waist-belt to untangle the leads--with this one I simply unlatch the lead from the belt, untangle and reattach. Or if I'm on the ball, unhook the lead before the dog approaches-I can do this with-out stopping my run. Very convenient.

* The length of the lead is adjustable. My dog has a tendency to run right in front of me. Some of the other leads I tried were too short so I'd kick her heels. This one I adjusted so she has just enough room in front of me, but not too much that the lead drags on the ground when she is beside me. (I did get the "Extend-a-buddy" extension section. The leash alone was just a tad too short.)

*This lead does not have the elastic section and I don't recommend adding it. (You can order it if you really want it.) I tried other leads that had the elastic section built in. The theory is that the elastic gives you warning time when the dog lunges and eases some of the shock. In practice I did not think the elastic did anything to ease the shock of the lunge. Plus, the springiness of the elastic caused the lead to really bounce up and down when I ran. I found that very annoying and I think my dog did too!

The only thing questionable aspect of the product is how long will the plastic clips hold up to an 87lb dog straining against them? I guess we'll find out.

I've had my dog for almost 3 years now and I will admit he's not very social, especially to other dogs. I would always dread taking him for walks because he would just make SUCH a ruckus. He would back and scream bloody murder if even the dog was on the other side of the street. Well imagine this 6 o'clock in the morning when the whole neighborhood is asleep. I'm sure you could imagine the embarrasement. Well I got this collar last week and I swear it's been a miracle. I'm kicking myself in the a## for not buying this collar earlier.

The first time he barked, he was startled out of his mind. The second time, same reaction. The third time, he just barked once, then kept quiet once the spray went off. Now he doesn't even bark. You could tell he wants to, but just knows the consequences. Words can't explain how thrilled I am to have purchased this collar. Now I'm saving up to purchase the one with the remote. That way I can use it when I get home and he's screaching, waking up the neighborhood, and announcing my arrival.

One thing to keep in mind is that this collar does not work for high pitched screaching like my dog does when I get home. Hence the reason for buying the one with the remote. Oh, and for those wondering if it will work on your small dogs, it will. My dog is a chihuahua/pomeranian mix.

My doxie is a major league, Hank Aaron barker. This product is 100% effective for him. He is a little shy (although stubborn sometimes), which might make a difference. He weighs 19 lbs. I really am not sure I could bear to shock him, as I am a bit tender-hearted towards him, but I probably would if that was what it took to stop heavy barking.

There are a lot of nice extras about using this collar.

- It doesn't seem to cause him any pain, it just startles him.

-He seems to be comfortable with it, as large as it is (we keep it loose), and can run, jump, and sleep with it on.

- It allows him to bark at a very subdued volume, which I think is nice. It's a pleasant deep soft sound, not at all bothersome, and it lets him satisfy his bark urge to a degree. It also lets him communicate when he needs something.

-If he does bark, it keeps the mosquitoes away!!

-The spray does not smell bad at all -it's almost pleasant

-It WORKS (for my doxie); after two or three single barks, he stopped completely.

-Strangely, he doesn't seem to object when I put it on him. He really lets you know if he doesn't like something, and he doesn't mind wearing this collar hardly at all.

Here are the bad things:

-If you leave it turned on, the battery will run out.

-The collar itself is quite hard to size for a smaller dog; I had to use scissors and Scotch tape, which does not hold up well.

-It IS quite large on a small dog.

We had him wear it for three weeks. Now, we just put it on him for a booster course if he barks twice in one day.

You have to remember to turn it off when you take it off, and turn it on when you put it on your dog. This becomes automatic quickly. The citronella lasts a long time; at least, it lasts a long time if it works. Some dogs apparently are not impressed by the spray and bark the reservoir empty.

There is a problem with recommending this collar, because it may or may not work for your dog. It is either the greatest thing since cut bread, or a total waste of money.

My personal experience has been great with this product. It stopped a major behavioral problem immediately, without any pain inflicted on our dog. It's a bit expensive for a product that may not work at all in an individual case. The upside though is a big one, it is a FABULOUS product if your dog responds to it.

We are very happy with the citronella bark collars. We have three dogs, all are terriers and they can get into a bark-fest. These collars have worked wonders, and are truly humane-they work without pain. I wouldn't use one of the shock collars. They are not "humane"they shock and they hurt! If you don't believe me, put it on your own neck and give it a try. I have seen dogs with burns on their necks from those. (As an aside, yes, I tried this citronella collar too. I let it spray me full in the face. Not pleasant, but not painful.) If you love your dog, try this method. BTW, don't buy the expensive replacement batteries here. They are a standard size and can be obtained at any Walgreens, Target, etc for around $3.

This collar worked great for my smart and trainable long-haired German Shepherd -effectively re-trained her barking behavior, and we quickly got to the point where she didn't need it any more. I also loaned it to a friend with a very spirited Golden Retriever, and it has worked well for their dog, although she continues to need to wear it most of the time even after a year. My mother tried it with her keeshonds, who are the most stubborn dogs I've ever met, and it really didn't work with them, even when she made adjustments for their thick fur. Of course, those dogs are pretty behaviorally challenging, and a strong shock-collar has only been moderately effective for them. So ... for a spirited but reasonably compliant dog, it has seemed to work well, but for more stubborn dogs, the barking challenge may go on and on.

Unfortunately, the collar didn't do anything for our dog. I've tried the collar multiple times (went thru the refill can already), but she is very happy to just be barking away. The only effects I can figure out in our case is that we are out $80, and the dog smells like Citronella.

On the positive side, the device has been pretty durable and sits on the dog well. Citronella just didn't work for us.

Puppia's sizing tends to run very small but luckily lead's aren't something you need to worry about. Our dog is small so we usually get a longer lead to reach down to his size, we didn't this time, but it's still works. The color and construction is perfect. Great buy.

I was unsure about ordering the Puppia Authentic Two Tone Lead, Royal, Medium, but since I'd ordered a Puppia harness, figured that I'd splurge and purchase this as well. The two tone colors is attractive and although the weight of this leash is light, I find it to be secure. The handle slips over my hand easily and it's not difficult to switch from hand to hand when necessary. I've experienced no twisting or snagging, and the clasp has functioned without problem. I keep it attached to the harness for the most part and simply slip my Shih Tzu in and out of them both at the same time. For times I want her to run with more freedom than the few feet of this leash, I can very quickly switch it with a retractable leash and slip this in a pocket. The dog seems to appreciate not having a heavier fabric or leather containing her and I'm very pleasantly surprised at how much I am liking it. I recommend this for dogs that don't pull very much and suggest combining it with a Puppia harness for the dog's comfort.

I cannot say enough about how good this product is.

My dog was aggressive and did not respond to commands, especially when off leash.

I had tried a couple other brands of remote collar, but they failed often, had terrible range, and therefore never enabled my dog to learn from the collar... this was too big of a risk with my aggressive dog.

I was forced to keep him on a leash which he HATED b/c we have a 500 acres that he loves to run on. I could only let him off leash in certain areas due to lots of people and animals around, and even that became a problem b/c he'd chase a deer and disappear for hours.

Finally we bought the sportdog 1225.. yes,the price was intimidating, but the reviews, and product site convinced me. and heck, my dog was worth it right?!

I was very skeptical about the 3/4 mile range as well.

well i was and still am AMAZED. the build quality on the unit and remote are fantastic. leaps and bounds above the others. the range absolutely!

i put this collar on my dog, took him out for a run, and within minutes he understood. if i gave him a beep he responded instantly. In the 2+ years i have had this device i have probably had to knick him maybe 10 times, and that was mostly toward the beginning. Now he simply runs free, no matter who or what is around, and i barely even have to beep him anymore, he knows that when the collar is on, he does what i say.

He is SOOOO much happier to run around free without a leash. Anyone who says these collars are inhumane has never witnessed thier pets JOY to be free from their leash.

another thing to note is the claimed submergability in water down to 25 feet not only do i frequently take my dog out in pooring rain, but one time he fell into a pond (darn ducks are irresistable).. I was very concerned that he may get shocked or the collar might malfunction underwater, but sure enough, he swam to shore, shook off, and we went right on our merry way.. the collar kept on trucking.

There is virtually no sign of wear on the unit or remote, it has never failed, and i have never had my dog run too far out of range.. if anything 3/4 of a mile is being lean.

honestly, if your dog hates leashes you owe it to him/her to get one of these. Highly recommended

I absolutely love this collar. I love the fact that it has the ability to vibrate for a correction. I've already had one and just purchased my second. The only bad thing was when I got my new collar the vibration option was not working properly. It sounded as if the part was loose inside the collar. I hadn't even used the collar yet. But I called customer service tonight and was on hold for less then 2 minutes and the customer service person was very helpful and they are sending out a replacement part and a box to ship the old part back. Other than that little snafu the other options work just fine. Am looking forward to many years with this collar!

PetSafe Deluxe Anti-Bark Spray Collar for Dogs, Citronella Scent

I have a problem with one of my dogs and excessive barking. It is so bad that I have receive anonymous letters from neighbors, a visit from the police and a letter from the county animal control. I purchased this collar in January and it worked very effectively for 2 weeks. The Citronella spray stopped my dog from barking more than once or twice (as opposed to 20 times) and it was great. After 2 weeks, the collar stopped working.

I contacted the manufacturer who asked me to take some trouble shooting steps and, when it still did not work, they authorized the return of the product. The return was at my expense but I did receive a replacement in about 2 weeks. I will say that Innotek's customer service was very good. I received the replacement collar and for 2 weeks it worked perfectly and was effective in stopping the excessive barking.

Unfortunately, once again it has stopped working and will not spray. I am not sure I want a device that I must keep returning and while I do not know if I am just unlucky and received 2 lemons, I am concerned about an endless cycle of returns.

I went on Amazon to return the collar as defective but it cannot be returned as it is designated as "hazardous materials." I may be forced to go through the return process again with Innotek if it can't be returned (or just stuck with the loss of my money).

UPDATE: Amazon promptly responded to my question about the return (or inability to return) of the collar and issued a refund. As always, Amazon's customer service is very good.

I have had this product for well over a month, and it still works great, so just be aware that the other reviewers might have had faulty products and just needed a return. Maybe their dogs are a little crazy and rough house the collar a bit too much. It is a relatively durable case, but I believe that strong impacts would do some damage to the unit. Some good and bad points now:

The spray is VERY effective for curbing barking

Is not sensitive enough for small barks and whining, so this does not solve those problems. If your dog is smart and figures out that quiet barking is not punished (like mine did), you'll still have a problem barker, but just not as loud.

My dog is not afraid of the collar, but knows to be quiet when it is on

Make sure you say 'no barking' or 'quiet' every time it sprays if you can. The dog will learn your command as well.

Overall I highly recommend this product for $40. However I do NOT recommend it if you bought it at the $100 that Petsmart wants to steal out of you (though I do love that company). It is simply not a $100 value anti-bark system, more like $40-$50.

This product worked great for a few weeks. Then it stopped working, it just would no longer spray. I thought maybe the battery? Nope! Maybe it got wet, and ruined the sensor? So I bought a new one. Silence for a week then the same thing happened, it just stopped working. I also found a crack in the housing which let the citronella leak out. So again for the limited time that this product physically worked, it was wonderful.

I was leery to buy this product based on several reviews mentioning that the collar stopped working. We were desperate and waiting on a knock on the door from the police due to our dog's excessive barking in our chain-link fenced backyard so we tried this collar and it curbed our dog's barking immediately. We have used the collar now for three weeks and are thrilled with it. We are nearly out of the original can of citronella and I had ordered a second one at the same time I ordered the collar so we will now start on the second can and I'll order another can to have on hand. Now that our dog is accustomed to the situation I would expect her not to run through the citronella quite as fast. We have even found that when we send her out without the collar she *usually* will not bark. However, occasionally even with the collar she will start barking and she gets squirted. Sometimes, we have found that if she is barking she has run the collar out of spray and it needs refilling. Once she figures out she *can* bark without being squirted, she will bark. Life with the collar is 1000 times better than life without the collar.

This is a very beautiful collar. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is that most slip collars are flexible enough to easily draw the chain, or leather through it to make it a slip collar. This chain is not flexible. It does not arrive as shown in the picture with the slip already to go. you must bend the chain forceably to slip the chain through to make the slip knot. Some people will not be able to do this. It will withstand the bending to do this, even though it does not seem as if it will, but don't be afraid. The chain is made very well, and will withstand the rigger it takes to assemble it properly.

Once assembled it is a really great chain! Substantial enough to hold your dog, yet light enough to not bother the dog as he wears it around the house.

And it really is pretty, without being froo froo. A handsome piece of functional jewelry for your male or female dog. Also this seller is the cheapest for this product, and it did arrive quickly.

Love this product! I use this when I show my English Bulldog and he just looks stunning in it! The extra fine looks better then medium in my opinion. If you are really serious about agility, save your money for a better product. If you just want backyard fun this product will work for you.

Petsafe weave poles are exactly as the manufacture claims, and the quality is very good.

The two organizations that I am familar with the standard is 24" between poles. The two sets I purchased are 20" between poles.

The quality of the product is good, but the spacing of the petsafe will not allow the speed neccesary to really train for competition. Thank You

I was really excited to try this out with my border collie rescue. However, the "portable" aspect means they don't stay together well. My already nervous dog bumps into them when he is weaving and knocks them over, making him nervous about the poles. I wish I had spent a bit more money to buy a better set.

I had a little trouble doing this myself, but the dogs loved it. First time I lured them with a treat, now they like to show off. I have two large German Shepards and a Ridgeback and it was a bit tight for them but I was able to add some longer pieces of pvc to further the poles a bit. Easy to move about so I can mow and disassembles with ease. Perfect for me, my dogs are in better shape than myself.

Hi, I Purchased the Esky No Bark Collar to keep the neighbors happy as our dog has been barking lately.

Wow, the first time I put it on her on Vibrate only and she ignored it. I set the shock level at the lowest setting and she took notice.

I really don't mind my dog barking; after all she's a dog. But She no longer barks for no reason. I started the dial at 3, when she started barking aggressively at the neighbor she got her vibrate warning when my dog chose to ignore it then came the zap...she felt it and stopped barking. I lowered the dials to two. When she starts to huff I remind her NO Barking!!! And she actually listens to me now(IMAGINE THAT!!!). I'm VERY Happy with this unit. Don't think my neighbor likes the idea of me using a shock collar on my dog, But I use it to correct my dog and I'm getting good results. I've had it for about 4 weeks. I don't use it on her when she's inside unless I'm working. Perfect fit; I have a 70 pound Lab mix, so the collar that came with the unit was plenty big. Also would like to add that this unit is well made and sturdy. Battery keeps and good charge for a couple of days. Well worth the little money spent; should have done this a long time ago.

works well, so long as i could get my wife to turn it off when she removes it from the dog!!! i only put it on vibrate mode (which still delivers a very light shock) just the sound of the vibrating and the tiny tingle is enough to scar sammy silent. I put the sensitivity on 4 to 5. When i got it in, after charging, I turned it up to the highest and held it to my arm...WOW!!! That thing can power a small home!! I would never attempt to put it on my dog at that rate! I tried it on all the settings and this think really shocks... thi is why i keep it on just vibrate. thats enough to keep the dog from barking like a lunatic. he is a coon hound who just barks non stop when left alone.
