SportDOG Bark Control - 18 levels

SportDOG Bark Control - 18 levelsWe have two very bark-y dachshunds that have caused neighbors to leave us anonymous notes of complaint about them barking constantly while we were away from home, so we have no choice but to use bark control collars on them while we are at work (it was either that or have their vocal cords cut, which I consider more inhumane than a bark collar). I like the bark control part of this collar very much, as it has 18 levels of correction. There are 3 different settings you can choose for your dog, each with 6 correction levels. Whichever setting you use, it will gradually increase the "correction" level until the dog stops barking, then will reset back down to the lowest correction level for that setting for when they begin barking again. It is extremely effective, and if they bark at all, they only get one or two barks out and then stop. Before purchasing this collar, we used another brand that only reset down 1 level below the last "correction" they received, which didn't seem fair in my opinion. Incidentally, our male doxie has to be on the middle setting (he's quite stubborn) but the female does well on the first (lowest) setting. We've never had to go to level 3, which I imagine would be reserved for large, stubborn dogs.

Another great feature of the bark control equipment on this collar is that it has an "off" setting, which is great for when you pack them for travel or store them away for an extended time. We've had the bark control equipment that comes with this collar for just over 7 months now and the batteries are still holding strong.

The only reason I don't give this particular product a 5 star rating is because the collar itself is awful. After we purchased these, we ended up replacing the collars immediately with nylon collars. The plastic is hard and not very flexible, and it was too big for our dachshunds (which are supposed to be miniatures, but are more "maxi-minis" since they weigh in at about 15 lbs each). Consider instead the PetSafe PDBC-300 Deluxe Bark Control Collar. It's the same bark control equipment as this item, but with a nylon collar.

I have a SportDog SBC10 that works well. I bought this product(SBC-18)and it is crap. The intensity/test switch will not stay at one setting, the dogs can change the setting during play. Most of the time I put the collar on at night and by morning the switch is on test and my dog is happily barking away.Don't buy this product.

These collars do work work but are hard on the batteries, I've had to replace them a couple of times in two months. The only part vulnerable is the microphone. If you have more than one dog (I have three) the others can (and did)damage the microphone.

Had the 10R model for a couple years for our larger dog, but it was way too big and heavy for our 11 lb. terrier. This model is much lighter and works well. The first unit has a sensor issue but was replaced with an extra collar by the factory. They have excellent customer service.

I bought this item just a couple days ago at Cabelas. The first unit I purchased was defective as the light stayed on in test mode and did not flash. I promptly returned it and now have a properly working model. The batteries last 3-6mo depend upon use and new batteries can be purchased at a local pet store for $10 for a pair of them. I recommended testing all three levels to find the one that works. For my dog the lowest mode did nothing, I could tell the middle power would curb the length of each individual bark. However on the highest mode it had an immediate affect on him, even when I would take him outside without this collar on he would look hesitantly at me prior to attempting to bark. My dog is a 9mo old puppy and I would strongly encourage any pet owner to use this on your dog as a puppy when he is young and eager to learn. I am hoping only to have to use this on him for a couple of months. If your dog is older and constantly barks with this on then there may be other behavior factors to consider and you may want to look into other means to correct its barking. Ultimately, I'm very happy with this device and would consider it an important part of puppy training.

Stewart's Pro-Treat Tub Freeze Dried Dog Treats, 1-1/2-Ounce

Stewart's Pro-Treat Tub Freeze Dried Dog Treats, 1-1/2-OuncePieces can be large so I break them up but there are also smaller pieces and some powder. You should keep it in the original package and take out a week's worth or so at a time and store in a jar or plastic container as it can get stale once out of the original package. The 4 oz size is pretty large, like a large yogurt container.

Be careful about forgetting them in your pocket they can stink things up if left there for months. (Some other brands come from china, I like that these are made in the USA)

My cats (and my dogs!) love these little treats. Sometimes, it's the only thing I can use to get some of my finicky eaters to eat I just sprinkle them on their food and they go gangbusters. Thanks for such a great product!

I would NOT buy from this company again. when the pro treats came they were already expired by over two months. costimer service was not help full and did NOT give me a refund or exchange the product for a new one. custmer service was the worst I have ever experience. I even sent them the upc code and the copy of the sale receipt and I still did not get a refund or exchange of product. I woud NEVER buy fromt them again. I recommend you dont either.

In February of 2010 I ordered a 14 oz canister of Pro-Treat Freeze dried chicken liver dog treats.I had been giving another brand of freeze dried chicken liver treats to both my dog and cat. They both loved these treats. When I opened my new Pro-Treats freeze dried liver treats I smelled an odd odor. My cat would not eat these new treats. My dog did eat these treats but every morning he started throwing up. I stopped giving these treats to my dog and he stopped getting sick. The liver treats may or may not have been responsible for my dog getting sick but I didn't want to take a chance of my dog getting sink again.

I've purchased both the Pro-Treat freeze-dried beef liver and chicken liver treats and my dog *LOVES* them. She's never gotten tired of or finicky about these, nor did my previous dog. This product is a winner.

Sporn Training Dog Halter - Large

Sporn Training Dog Halter - LargeWith the Sporn halter, I can now take my dog for a walk without being dragged all over the street.

This halter is GREAT as a training aid. It keeps the dog from pulling. This helps you get its attention so you can teach it to walk properly (walk or heel) with you. I also like to use it when I am walking my dogs using a retractable leash because the ring extends over the back and lessens the occurence of "leash between legs".

I have used these halters for nine years on both my dogs (a long haired Belgian shepherd and short-haired pit bull) and have never once had a problem with them. My pit bull needed a bit more control, so I switched to a head-halter. After training her with the head-halter I return to the Sporn for pleasure walks.

I was amazed when I put the halter on my doberman ! She responded just they way the product said. She is no longer pulling and walks are longer for her now that she is under control. She is now responding to me rather then everything around her. Love it !

At first, we thought this harness was great. Our dog who usually pulls like a mack-truck slowed-down quite a bit due to the restraints that went under her front legs. However... when we took her on a short hike, we realized later--to our dismay--that it would pulled her hair and created sores under her arms and where the straps pulled through the ring at the top of the harness. She now is still recovering two weeks later with 4 huge scabs where the harness rubbed her. Ps--it has nothing to do with the size adjustment on the harness.

Lava Electronics QPets Q Clicker for Pets, 4-Pack

Lava Electronics QPets Q Clicker for Pets, 4-PackGood Karen Pryor clicker style, wrist coil lets you keep it close at hand. Glad to have more than one as they can get lost easy. These are much easier to click then the large box style ones and they fit better in in the hand.

These clickers are very affordable and are great for use when training your dog. Whether it is a puppy or a few years old. Great price on these and really fast shipping.

These are nice clickers and at this price, they can't be beat. Just a slight bit wimpy on the click sound but not too bad. I prefer a different brand for my big dogs but these are great for my Italian greyhounds. However, one wrist coil broke within days and the 4 colors seem to have a slightly different sounding click in each.

The wrist coil make it very easy to keep these handy, especialy in class. However, the loudness and tone of the clicks seems to vary a bit amoung the 4 different colors I have.

Cardinal Laboratories Botanic Training Rewards Treats for Dogs, Chicken, 20-Ounce

Cardinal Laboratories Botanic Training Rewards Treats for Dogs, Chicken, 20-OunceMy dogs (2 Dachshunds, a Chihuahua and a French Bulldog) love these Cardinal Laboratories Pet Botanics Training Rewards, chicken flavor and their size (1/4 of an inch in diameter and 3/8 of an inch tall; a tad bit smaller around than a dime see customer image I uploaded) in conjunction with their consistency (neither too moist, nor crumbly) makes them ideal for keeping in your pockets so that they are readily accessible when training your dog.

The primary ingredient is Pork Liver (chicken is 5th on the list see below). Pork Liver is a nutrient-rich organ which provides your dog with protein, fat and vitamin A. It is also a good source of copper, iron, niacin, phosphorus and zinc. It provides many B vitamins, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and essential amino acids. Liver is of great benefit to your dog's health when offered in moderation (too much can lead to a condition called hypervitaminosis A, or an overdose of vitamin A). These little treats are a great way to add the benefits of liver to your dog's diet.

They are also great for crate training, too. Just give them to your dog through the crate door as soon as you put them in and eventually they will associate something good with being crated. Soon enough you can just toss 2 or 3 in the crate when you need to crate them and they will happily go right in. My dogs have their own room that their crates are in. When I open the door to their room they run and get in the crates sometimes quicker than I can put their training rewards in.

INGREDIENTS: Pork Liver, Barley Flour, Whole Ground Potatoes, Sucrose, Chicken, Potato Starch, Glycerine, Wheat Bran, Gelatin, Rice Flour, Flax Seed, Salt, Natural Smoke Flavor, Garlic Powder, Phosphoric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Mustard, Citric Acid, Mixed Tocopherols, Rosemary

FYI According to the manufacturer's website and also the product packaging, these training rewards are MADE IN THE USA, have only 3 calories per treat, and contain neither soy, corn, nor BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin (artificial preservatives).

I have purchased all the Pet Botanics Training Rewards flavors. My dog loves them. For some reason the chicken flavor was not available until recently. These are a little cheaper than the pet stores in my area. Very glad they finally included the chicken as that is the flavor with which my dog was originally trained.

Talk and Train 2-Way Wireless Pet Training Collar /2 mile distance /Yellow/for dogs over 30 lbs.

Talk and Train 2-Way Wireless Pet Training Collar /2 mile distance /Yellow/for dogs over 30 lbs.Mine arrived today, and after fully charging the units, the receiver/collar unit will not go "on," unless the charger is plugged into it...i.e. it doesn't work if not attached to the charger, deeming it worthless. Apparently, the company has gone out of business as when phoning their contact phone number, you get a different company. Also, their website only refers you to other "sponsored," sites. In other words, their "one year warranty," is bogus!!!

Has our country become so corrupt that we cheat each other so willfully?

I loved this idea so much that when I saw it, I invested about $10K into it. The product was apparently doing well and about to show up in all the major pet stores, and an extension of this great technology was also going to be used by the military for tracking their front line troops in action. I kept stopping by various pet stores to get some feedback, but they never did get the product. Next, I see that this small startup company has sponsored the winning chuckwagon at the Calgary Stampede for $210,000.00, outbidding all the major oil companies for this privilege, and getting the total VIP treatment for all their executives and entourage at the biggest party on Earth. Finally, I see this dude walking down the sidewalk in a yellow silk jacket with the HearNow logo on it, it was the main scammer Gerard Besaw's son Jarret Besaw, he had been promoted to be the Australian Sales Manager. Although they hadn't yet sold ten units in their own town, it was time to become global. Gotta think big! I suspect he used my $10K to fly there first class and stay in a five star accomodation long enough to see the sites in that country. I'm embarrassed to have been conned by these grifters. They were fined $100,000 by the Alberta Securities Commission but pocketed the rest of their $6.6 million other than their Stampede party costs. I think there should be more severe consequences for such blatant fraud. They continue to walk freely among us, living in Calgary, but using heir offshore bank accounts to vacation. Sheisters!

I love the idea of this product. But I can't get it to work. Both the collar and hand radio recharge and come with plugs. But after charging the two collars I bought overnight, neither had power the next day when unplugged. And even when they are plugged in, I cannot get the radio to communicate to the collar. The instructions explain how to set the radio and collar on the same channels, but even after following the instructions, they don't work.

At least the two radios that came with the two collars communicate with each other.

This is quite useless as a pet correction gadget. Dogs will ignore the voice coming from the collar after a while, as you are not standing there for the dog to associate the voice with someone.

I bought this at a dollar store for two bucks. As I expected, the battery in the collar unit was completely dead, it only functions when plugged in or its internal PL402035 3.7v polymer battery replaced. So if your dog gets lost, the thing is quite useless. Talking out while plugged in is no good, it fills the channel with the sound of the power mains.

However, the other half of this novelty is that it seems to be using GMRS / FRS network. It picked up a couple of chatters while I tried it in the Long Beach Marina area. Both transmitters were too weak to make any understandable response back to them one guy told me to throw the piece of rubbish away and get a REAL CB from a pawn shop!

It's still useful for short-distance communications around the house like adjusting the antenna, or checking the fuse box. However, when plugged in, it adds a static hiss to outgoing communications. There are other GMRS gadget pairs that are cheaper.

It was a good patent idea on paper, however, it was poorly executed. If it was properly executed with durable/replaceable collar batteries, it would have been too expensive or too bulky for the dog.

Easy Walk Harness - Large, Black

Easy Walk Harness - Large, BlackI have a pit bull who pulls a lot! I've tried choke chains, harnesses, gentle leaders, haltis, nothing worked! She would just pull and make her skin raw! This works miracles. Even if she runs full speed at a squirrel I don't get pulled. It makes my walks so much more relaxing. The only thing is it kind of rubbed under her arms so I sewed some thick fabric around the part that was rubbing and it's fine. This is amazing!!!!!!!

I have to say this is the best harness I purchased. I have tried several. This is easy to use, and my doggie loves it. The other ones I have tried were too thick in material, and my dog had to step out of it. This harness is so easy, just 1 click and it's off her. A big thank you from us both. thanks again Amazon, your the best!

Holt Dog Walking Collar Red Size 0

Holt Dog Walking Collar Red Size 0We have a 25 lb Rat Terrier who would pull no matter what we tried. This product works great. Despite what people fear about hurting the dog's neck, I found out from a vet that these fears are unfounded. He said that there are very few, if any reports of dogs hurt using the Holt. There are many reports of dogs hurt using choke collars and prong collars. Besides, why cause your dog pain, if you can train him without it.

The key is to train. Holt will keep your dog from pulling, but it will not do your work for you. The idea is that you constantly reward your dog as he walks without pulling. The best way to do so is using a clicker and rewards. Once he gets used to the idea that he will be rewarded for not going to the end of the leash, you can put the Holt on the dog, but fasten the leash to the flat collar and continue to click and reward.

Eventually, you take the Holt off and he won't realize it. Gradually you can wean him off the clicker and the food reward. Always keep some reward in your pocket. We all like reward once in a while.

People complain because it's a Chinese product. Who cares? If we can't make a good product in the USA that will help me train my dog without causing him pain, then I'll buy it from where ever they sell it. The Holt is better than Gentle Leader for two reasons. First, the Holt is clipped onto the dog's collar. If the dog manages to take it off, your leash it attached to the Holt which is attached to his collar. He's not going anywhere. Second, the Holt has side straps that Gentle Leader does not have. These keep the padded nose strap from riding up toward the eyes.

Does the dog like it? It depends how you introduce him to the Holt. I left mine on the floor where I could see it. The dog played with it. I gave him a treat each time he did. Then we played by holding a treat on one side and having the dog slip his muzzle through the opening to get the treat. Gradually, we learned to put it on, get a treat and take it off. Finally, we put it on and kept it on . . . off we went for a short walk with lots of treats. Each walk got longer. He still squirmed when he had to "get dressed" to go out, but quickly learned that unless he put it on, he was not going out. Now he looks at it and whines until it's on and he's on the way out the door.

To close, there is one negative. Buy small. I don't know about the size of dogs in China, but they must be larger than our own. My 25 lb Rat Terrier wears a zero.

I cannot really say if the product works because it didn't fit my dog. Even though the size specs say it's for my breed, it was very very large and I had to return it.

Cesar Millan Large Black Illusion Collar

Cesar Millan Large Black Illusion CollarI bought this collar because my 80 lb American Pit Bull Terrier likes to forget he is on a leash. He is unaltered so he has an uncontrollable urge to pee on every twig we walk by. This collar stopped all of the pulling. The rope portion sits high enough that when I pull, it stops him instantly. He is quickly reminded that he is not in charge. Nothing had worked with my dog. Choke chains were terrible. He would just as soon turn blue in the face. Pronged collars worked at first, however, it seemed to intensify his need to pull when we saw a dog. This collar works perfectly. You have to have him on your left side to make the rope tighten properly. If the dog is out in front or on your right, he can pull because it is not cinching properly. I would recommend this collar to everyone I know with a large dog.

This is the second one of these collars I've purchased and I love the new design. This one has buckles for both collar pieces instead of the older model that needed to be fitted every time. I have three large dogs, one that pulls, and one that will jump toward dogs in excitement when we pass by. This collar has helped me control and correct both dogs, especially the dog that leaps at other dogs (I am a 125 lb female and this dog is 95 lbs). I really like the shorter leash too! It's great for jogging with the dogs since I don't have to deal with all of the extra leash.

My husband used to injure his back when walking the dogs if they pulled using other leashes. We used to use a pinch collar, which didn't work well for us and our powerful dogs (it was like they didn't even feel the correction!). My husband liked the first one we got so much that we got another one for the 80 lb dog that pulls on walks. By doing a quick firm correction they understand what you want them to do and it really doesn't take much. It's easier on all of us!

The collar we ordered arrived very quickly. I ordered it on Tuesday and we got it on Thursday!

Thanks Cesar!

I'm not a pet person but they always seem to find me. The latest is a 100 lb, one year old German Shepherd with an incredible chase instinct which ran the streets, wild, before coming to me. Not a mean bone in him, absolutely beautiful, plays well with others, strong as an ox, can clear a four foot fence from a sitting position, but will chase a squirrel through the side of a metal storage building, then out the other end. Yes, the squirrel needed two holes. One in, one out. No, the dog didn't.

I read the reviews on this collar and bit on the science, i.e., that by raising the collar closer to the dog's head, your training issues would disappear.

No.

Yes, upon putting on the collar the 1st time, the results were amazing. I, too, was ready to Hail Cesar!

However, I'm betting most of those glowing reviews were written after the 1st walk. Or two. And by persons who didn't know you can buy a short leash and gain much of the control provided thereby for a fraction that this thing costs.

In my case at least, the dog very quickly became used to the collar position and reverted to his old ways. His indifference was accelerated, no doubt, by the fact that the nylon straps which separate the two collars began to collapse, making the 3" rise more like 1". I'm thinking of taking the collar to an upholstery friend and see if he can sew some plastic stiffeners onto the separating straps, making the rise once again the full 3". And yes, I've tried adjusting it a dozen times, nothing makes it work like new. This may be a German Shepherd design problem, I don't know, that's why the review is labeled Your Experience May Vary.

The other negative, like you need another than the fact that it doesn't work for more than a few days, is that the collar is amazingly difficult to put on the dog. Of course, if your dog is a placid little thing, you might not have this problem. Trust me, it is a problem getting it on this monster I've rescued ... but after, what's it been, six weeks now, he is getting used to the noose going over his head and the snapping of the two collars but it is still a pain.

All this said, it is a well made piece (aside from collapsing on itself and edit 3/26/12 below) and given the two collars provides a bit of additional security (again, edit 3/26/12 below) when walking something as big and untrained as Axle. But, for the money and my experience to date, I'd go with a short or better yet two handle leash (Kong makes a really nice one with a sliding grab) and leave this on Amazon's shelves.

Edited 3/8/12: If you read the negative reviews, you'll see anti-commentary from the same one or two reviewers, one of whom claims to be an expert on this dog collar because he/she is a vegan! This is a forum for product reviews ... not member/poster/reviewer reviews. This thing is advertised as the greatest training aid since everything. Stating that it doesn't work, collapses on itself (contrary to the pretty picture provided), is grossly overpriced, or has the potential to hurt the dog relates to the PRODUCT, not the member/poster/reviewer. Please limit your comments to the product and leave us alone, we can't all be dog whisperers. Besides, if you're so damn gifted, why did you find it necessary to buy this piece of crap in the first place?

Edited 3/26/12: Took the Axle for his usual, 3 mile, walk this morning. If we leave early enough, break of dawn early enough, we can get back before the squirrels come out in force. Decided to use this collar. Halfway around, an early rising squirrel popped out of a tree. As continues to be his habit, Axel lunged. Then, as he has learned, he stood still and watched. However, this time the metal ring on this "high quality" training device/collar had failed, without warning spreading enough that the leash snap popped out. Loose dog. Fortunately, he didn't realize that he was unhooked and, again, as he's allowed to do, continuing standing perfectly still, on 'point' if you will, intently watching the squirrel scamper up and down the tree. I re-hooked him, temporarily using the second ring to finish the walk. Now, as noted, this is a tractor of a dog with a very strong prey instinct, particularly as to cats and squirrels. So, once again, your experience may vary. As far as the lead, an easy fix would be to replace the cheapie metal rings with stronger, miniature, screw together D rings from one of the box stores or better yet Amazon. If you've a large, spirited dog and buying this collar, I would recommend this fix before one of the rings fails ... particularly if you walk the dog anywhere near traffic.

Edited 4/7/12: Gave up on this thing, it's gone. Went with Signature K-9 2" wide. Much more to my liking, see my review @http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CXJ3LW/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details

This is an amazing collar for training. I always had a problem with my leash dipping too far back and during a "correction" I'd always feel like I could be hurting my dogs trachea. Especially since i have such a strong active breed (boxer/pit) he is prone to pulling. Now, (with the help of training in addition to this leash) we are able to go on walks and he walks right by my side. No pulling or tugging. You only need a slight correction for the dog to feel it when it is that high on his head. I love it. $50 is pretty expensive for a dog collar, but I think the investment was worth the relief my dog is feeling around his neck.

Easy Walk Harness - Petite/Small, Black

Easy Walk Harness - Petite/Small, BlackI don't want to endorse this as the ultimate harness, but it does work very well.

I was having trouble with my puppy when on a collar and leash because he hadn't made the connection that he has to stay left and behind when walking. I would spend a lot more time and energy because I would have to stop or pull him back into place, etc. Plenty of times this was a serious frustration while on the collar.

So I was recommended by my puppy day care to get one of these harnesses. And after fitting it correctly (youtube video helps a lot), we had the best walk ever. No pulling, right at my side, amazing, near perfect. However, the successive walks required more training.

The upside:

If the dog decides he wants to lead you, you are not pulling on their neck, and pulling forward not only is uncomfortable for them, it pulls them off balance if they pull really hard. Larger dogs will obviously be more of a problem, and may still pull you, especially if you do not have it fitted right.

The downside:

Fitting is tedious and requires more in-depth understanding. They should figure out an easier way to fit this harness.

It DOES NOT "automatically" leash train your dog. A dog who is not leash trained will still want to pull away from you while wearing this harness. It just makes it so he/she won't pull as hard.

Other thoughts/notes:

You have to fit the harness exactly or it won't work as well.

Be sure to let the dog know you're the boss (the alpha) and even though you have this nice happy harness, don't let the dog lead you.

I purchased an Easy Walk Harness for both my deer chihuahua and my pug cross. My chihuahua has a collapsing trachea, that when walked with a collar or regular harness causes him to have a coughing fit, the Easy Walk decreased these fits about 90% which I (and he:) and very grateful for! My pug is high energy and pulls an excessive amount. It seems with regular harnesses she just feels the urge to pull more, not the case with the Easy Walk. She still has some amount of pull, but our walks are much more pleasant. I was worried that the cut would bother my dogs' underarms, but so far they both walk comfortably. I think I would go up a size for my chihuahua next time,so make sure to measure well, but overall I am really happy with this harness and would recommend it to everyone!

Harness is hard to fit a very active 5-6 lb Yorkie. I'm sure it will work better for a calmer, larger dog. I have adjusted harness as small as I can & still she manages to pull one leg out. This worries me for her safety. The harness idea is good, quality good, as well as mail time.

KONG Puppy Kong Toy, X-Small (Colors Vary)

KONG Puppy Kong Toy, X-SmallI've used lots of kongs in the past but never bought the puppy specific one. I was very glad to see it wasn't too hard for her teeth and gave enough for her to be able to chew out whatever I stuff in there. She loves that it bounces all over the place and treats it much like one of her balls. It's definitely worth the money for a new small breed puppy.

I didn't know they made them this small. I love it. My puppy is 5lbs and its a perfect size for him! We all know that kongs hold up well, so I'm happy!

I got this for my Mom's lil Chihuahua pup, He hasn't stopped chewing it yet. Its now his favorite toy! It doesn't have to have a treat in it for him, he likes it plain too.

This is the perfect size for our 4 lb Yorkie. It would be VERY nice if the description stated that it is NOT to be used for puppies over 9 months old which the packaging clearly states. Our boy is not too rough of a chewer so I'm not worried since you cannot even see a dent in it after a whole month of his tiny teeth carrying it around and trying to abuse it. This should however be changed in the description!! I do wish that we could pick the color since we were sent a pink one but that is okay I guess (he sure doesn't care). FYI you can barely fit any treats in this thing because of the size but if you are filling with peanut butter it works (we like to freeze the PB overnight and then give it to him).

Gentle Leader Headcollar 5/8" Nose Loop, Blue, Medium for Dogs 25-60 lbs.

Gentle Leader Headcollar 5/8' Nose Loop, Blue, Medium for Dogs 25-60 lbs.Our very excitable lab mix puppy was absolutely impossible to walk on a leash . He pulled so hard that I was concerned for his neck/throat. He was injuring himself, and it took all of my strength to hold him...he chased everything he saw. Cars, people, other dogs...he acted very aggresive on the leash, jumping and lunging at children when they got off the bus. I was a my wits end, when a neighbor suggested the Gentle Leader. I immediately bought one, and it immediately and completely changed my dog's behavior the very first time I used it. He was calm, quiet, and was unble to pull me. He has walked nicely on the leash ever since...the best investment I could've made! I also use the Gentle Leader when company comes over. He usually gets very excited, and jumps on everyone who enters the house, and has scratched and knocked over friends and family on a few occasions. When I put the Gentle Leader on him before people walk in, he is calmer, does not jump, and remains generally submissive and much easier to control. The great thing about it is the fact that it is not a muzzle, he can breathe fine, eat, drink, and open his mouth to pant. i can't say enough about this terrific product! We are all so much happier since we discovered the Gentle Leader, (our dog included). This product is worth it's weight in gold!

Dean and Tyler DT Freedom Muzzle, Size No. 26 - Dalmatian Female

Dean and Tyler DT Freedom Muzzle, Size No. 26 - Dalmatian FemaleThis is only the second muzzle I've owned. I have a 4 1/2 year old Golden Retriever, and after a little "incident" with another, smaller dog in my apartment complex, I decided to start putting a muzzle on whenever I take her out. I say this so that you understand she hasn't grown up wearing muzzles at all.

The first muzzle I got was a different one from Dean & Tyler, and while the quality was great, it fit too snug around her snout to allow her to open her mouth and pant. Not only can this become bad for dogs (if left like that for extended periods, not being able to pant causes over-heating in dogs), but she hated it with a passion and constantly tried pulling the muzzle off. I figured she just wasn't used to having to wear one.

Then I found out about the DT Freedom line of muzzles. I bought this muzzle to replace the regular DT muzzle I had, when I saw that it was designed to let them open their mouths and pant. She has no problem with it! The very first time I put it on, she just sat there patiently with her tail wagging, waiting for me to put on her collar and leash to go outside.

One thing though, DEFINITELY watch the sizing on the muzzle. I recommend going to the official Dean & Tyler website, they have pages explaining in great detail how to properly measure your dog for a muzzle and they have all the muzzles laid out in a nice chart showing each muzzle's dimensions. And they encourage you to contact them if you have any questions or concerns at all about sizing muzzles.

If you buy it from their official website, they also offer free standard shipping, making the total price currently cheaper than buying it with standard shipping from Amazon. They say on the website that, in addition to standard shipping time, each muzzle is made to order and can take up to 10 days just to craft before shipping (you get an email telling you to contact them if you need it urgently and don't want to wait 10 days). BUT I ordered mine on a Saturday and received it the following Saturday, without needing to contact them or pay for faster shipping.

All in all, I couldn't be happier.

Great Muzzle. You really should call Tyler and Dean and discuss the sizing. Will likely require sending them photos of the dog as well but that is what it takes...

Would you buy a jacket for yourself without knowing the right size?

This fits your dogs face, the best fit is required.

Buy Dean and Tyler DT Freedom Muzzle, Size No. 26 - Dalmatian Female Now

I bought this muzzle about 6 months ago. I have a 'mutt' dog of little known origin, so measuring was an absolute must for this product, though I strongly recommend you measure twice for any dog! I originally got the pitbull female size, and it was way too big for my dog. I had been using a cloth grooming muzzle for a while as my dog is fearful and will attack dogs when they get to close to him. However, the cloth muzzle was very uncomfortable and my dog was constantly trying to get it off. It also rubbed away some of his fur on his snout, which was unsightly and obviously itchy/painful for the dog. I was slightly skeptical about how well my dog would keep the Dt Freedom on, but amazingly he has never once tried to get it off! That being said, it would not be particularly hard for him to pull off if he wanted to do so. This might be because he was hard to fit. There is no more rubbed off fur. The best thing about this muzzle is that it really does let him open his mouth, drink, pant, etc. It also lets him go through the motions of snapping, thus letting us correct the behavior (he now rarely snaps). The only thing I would change about it is how well it stays on. I have considered adding a strap that goes around the dog's neck like a collar so that it could not come off if he wanted it to. This would make me feel more comfortable taking him to a dog park for socialization. This really is a great muzzle for everyday, long term use!

Pros:

Lets dog go through full range of motion

Comfortable for the dog

Well made with quality materials

Cons:

Could potentially come off easily.

Hurts when dog rubs against you when it is being worn.

SportDOG In-Ground Fence System, SDF-100

SportDOG In-Ground Fence System, SDF-100I bought this after having a company come out and quoted a price of $1,583 to install a wireless fence. We have a little over half an acre and there was more than enough included wire to install. I rented a gas edger at Ace for $23 for a couple hours. And used a thin piece of plastic to push the wire in the slot from the edger. I was very leary of doing it myself but didn't want to spend the money having it done. And I'm glad I did because installing this thing was so easy I couldn't believe it.

Now as far as effective it WORKS! Our black lab was very easy to train. In a week of walking her around the yard showing her the flags she figured it out. She is also a lot more laid back in the yard. Instead of chasing birds and rabbits she now sits there and watches them. I recommend this product to everyone. The collar takes regular 9 volt batteries so no special ordering and paying an arm and a leg for them. However I would not use it on a very small dog because the collar is pretty wide and the box isn't as small as others. There are others at Amazon that would be better for a tiny dog.

Everything needed other than the edger was included in the box. Also took about 3-4 hours to install from start to finish.

UPDATE:3-21-08 After having this for nearly a year we are still very happy with it. I was worried it wasn't working because I never have seen the low battery indicator light up on the collar. So I tested it and it is still good. So after 11 months we have not had to replace the 9-volt battery. It also has no interference with our neighbors underground fence either.

They really thought of everything with this one! I love the added vibration feature on the collar as an additional warning to the dog. I've had and used many other systems throughout the various homes I've owned, but this is the most comprehensive system yet.

The collar unit is a bit large, but that's necessary to acccomodate the 9-Volt Battery. Which is great because battery replacement isn't a problem!!!

I did a lot of research before buying this product, and ended up buying this brand for the positive reviews, and good name.

It works, and has made my home more delightful. My dog loves to run in the yard, and was miserable being tied to a run. He is very fast, and before we had this fence would get loose frequently... every time directly into traffic.

The price of this product is reasonable when compared to some of the others on the market, and it seems that you get good value for the cost. It sure beats having to pay an emergency vet bill with the dog finally gets hit or causes an accident.

I have two small complaints about the product, and something I think people should be aware of when buying this product.

First, I find that the fence doesn't give the dog as much warning as I would prefer. You can change the setting to allow the for maximum amount of beeping warning before the dog is shocked, but it significantly cuts down on the "free" area. In my case, if I were to turn the fence to a higher warning level, the dog would not be able to pass between the house and the fence to get from the backyard to the front yard. I personally wish that the dog was given more time to react to the beeping warning before the shock correction.

Second, the training manual in the product didn't work for my morals. In a number of instances it tells you to trick the dog into going out of range while you are training them, sometimes by throwing a treat out of range, and other times by going out of range and calling the dog. I preferred not to have the dog associate the shock with being with me, so after the initial few shocks, and the showing the dog his boundaries, I allowed him to roam for small periods while I observed from my porch. In the few following times that he was shocked, he ran directly for me or the house, and eventually would run for the house when beeped.

It may be different for a less timid dog, however it was something I thought people should think about first.

That all being said I love this product, we are all happy... including the dog :)

PS. do get the power edger, I couldn't imagine doing the instillation without it! we found an attachment for our weed-wacker right at home depot.

This review may be a bit premature because I only finished the fence and started training yesterday, however, I must say that I am extremely pleased with both the product and the results that it has had for our two yellow Labrador retrievers. They have quickly learned what their boundaries are and won't even go near the line of flags outlining their outer limits.

The system is comprehensive in that just about everything is adjustible from the range of the boundary to the level of correction and even the type of correction. I have the collars set on 2, the lowest correction and it's more than enough for our Labs to get the idea that once the collar starts to buzz and beep that a static correction is not far behind.

When they say that the system comes with everything you need, they mean it. It comes with 1000 feet of wire if I ever need to replace my fence I have more than enough line to do the whole perimiter again, about 15,000 sq ft. You don't have to buy the special twisted wire either just twist it up yourself to create an area of cancelled signal.

My hope is not to create a situation where my dogs get shocked I intend to follow the training guide to the letter so that they KNOW their limits and stay well within them, thus allowing them more time to be where they should be anyway without my worrying that they will take off only to get into heaven knows what.

My only regret with this system is that I didn't buy it sooner.

Patrick Gleason

Installation was not difficult. Using a drill to twist the lines worked really well.

Only one complaint. We have a long, narrow lot with a house close on one side and a fence on the other. The boundary width is adjustable, but at the low (narrowest) settings, the signal seems inconsistent (as in the boundary width is different at different places along the length of the wire.) At first I turned it down to a low setting so that the dog could pass safely from the front yard to the back, but then she could run right through the fence elsewhere without getting a "static correction". When I widened the boundary to keep the dog from running through the fence in those places, she couldn't get by the sides of the house to get to the front yard without getting buzzed. We tried to set it at a compromise level, but never found a workable setting where the boundary was complete but where the dog wouldn't be shocked when she was simply trying to move from front to back.

What we ended up doing was let her be shocked a couple of times so that she would associate the flags and the sound and vibration of the collar, then we turned the shock off (just let the collar vibrate and ring). This has worked well, she does not cross the boundary, and we don't have to worry about her getting shocked when she is standing in her own yard. Bottom line, this may not be the best system if you have a small yard, or one that has an unusual or narrow shape. I'm sure it would be much better on a square quarter acre or larger.

Premier Click Stick Dog Trainer - Purple

Premier Click Stick Dog Trainer - PurpleIt's definitely challenging to juggle both a touch stick and a clicker in one hand (and often a treat in another) so the idea of a combined stick and clicker struck me as genius. The "Clik Stik" was attractively packaged in plastic with a little training guide. It's hard to miss with the bright green and purple colors, fits easily in my hand and has a clip on the back to hook it on your pants when not being used. The pointer itself is a good length and telescopes so it's usable for a variety of purposes. The only thing that I would have liked to see included would be a base you could sit it in to use for distance training work.

However, there's a major flaw with the product and that's the clicker. It's *way* too soft. Right out of the box I noticed how quiet the click was, but a couple training sessions and it's pretty much gone completely. You need complete and total silence to hear it at all. Considering the whole point of this device is that the clicker is built-in, it's a pretty major problem when the clicker doesn't work! Hopefully someone will come up with a similar product, that provides a reasonable click along with it.

ADDED: I got a replacement for the first one and the clicker seems to work a tad better, but still VERY quiet. It has the same fragile feeling as well that makes me wary that it will also get worse with use as the first did. It still is a nice pointer stick, but such a shame the clicker portion of it is so sub-standard. I have bought other target sticks for considerably less than this one so hard to recommend it when this is so problematic.

Small, compact, 2-in-1 train tool that eliminates the need for a separate clicker. Easy to use, easy to condition your dog with, easy to carry.

No need for a separate clicker, in fact if you are looking for a clicker for training, just buy the clik-stik. The clicker is on the clik-stik is quieter than most others (but still entirely effective) and therefore more subtle when in use.

The pamphlet explains the basics (which is done with precision and clarity) and you are left to the use of your own imagination as to what tricks or chores to teach your dog. So far, I have taught my dog, Steel, to "find the target" around the room, identify 2 toys, and shut the door behind him with this tool and the techniques described in the pamphlet.

A lot of fun and a great way to build a positive relationship with your pet! Steel's become even more attentive and behavioral "issues" have decreased because his improved focus.

Buy Premier Click Stick Dog Trainer - Purple Now

Some reviewers have complained that the sound of the clicker itself is too soft, while others say it's just fine, or loud enough for dog ears. If you go to a store where you can try different Clik Sticks, you'll find that indeed some do click louder than others. I would suggest taking that route, rather than ordering online and getting whatever you happen to get. As for fragility, I don't think it seems fragile at all. The clicker seems as "sturdy" as any other clicker out there, and the wand telescopes nicely. While I haven't searched high and low, I haven't found another target stick with built-in clicker so far; thus, I would recommend this highly. I've been using it for over a week now and it works just as well as I would've hoped. My only small complaint is that the target ball could be a bit larger, but that's a small quibble. My puppy responds very well to it... but of course she is BRILLIANT ;-)

Received this on Sat.It worked great for 1 day and then the clicker quit.I am going to return it and hope the replacement will be better.

Want Premier Click Stick Dog Trainer - Purple Discount?

Many trainers recommend a clicker and a target which aids in training the dog to associate a particular spot or postion with the reward. With a retractable target the Premier Click Stick fills the bill nicely. Having the capability to not extend (use as an ordinary clicker), partially extend, or fully extend, allows a great deal of flexibility without being clumsy. The clicking sound is crisp and adequate for in the house or an average size yard remembering that dogs have far superior hearing.

The Click Stick is light and fits my medium size hand well. Because of the well thought-out shape, it is easy to find the clicker button by touch alone. There is a clip allowing the Click Stick to be hooked to a belt or pocket, but since the clip is not tight fitting I wouldn't trust it to hold the clicker securly in a light-weight shirt pocket. Also included in the package is a helpful instruction booklet which provides you with the basics of clicker target training including how to get your dog to respond to the clicks as well as the target. You will need training sized treats, not included, for incentives and rewards for Bowser, Fido, Missy, Hey you, Stupid, or whatever it is you may have named your dog(s). once you and Fido have learned the basics, clicker training can be a whole lot of fun.

As an additional note, if you have multiple dogs as I do, it is often helpful to, at least initially, work with one at a time so as not to confuse them.

Rogz Reflective Dog Lead

Rogz Utility Small 3/8-Inch Reflective Nitelife 6-ft Long Fixed Dog Lead, BlackThis 3/4 inch wide "Roqz Reflective Dog Lead" is a superior $10.00 replacement to a $20 reflective leash of another brand that was stolen at a dog park.

All materials seem to be top quality. It is more than strong enough for my very energetic and powerful 65 lb. dog who usually walks very good but occasionally lunges. The material is soft and comfortable and easily stuffs into my pocket. The 6' length and the end loop are the perfect size. Finally, the snap swivel seems heavy duty and works smoothly.

To me, this leash would be at the very top of a five star rating, nearly perfect.

This is a nice sturdy leash, and reflects the light as it should, except the reflective stitching is only on one face of the leash. I'd give it 5 stars if it was reflective on both sides. If the side without stitching is the side facing the cars, it won't serve it's purpose of letting drivers know to keep an eye out for my dog...

This lead is a bit flimsy and really not made for bigger dogs. I was surprised of how thin this lead is ... about half of what I expected. Cost shouldn't have been as high as it was ($12)

Read Best Reviews of Rogz Reflective Dog Lead Here

We recently purchased two leashes (3/4and 1-inch, both in black), a collar and a harness, all made by Rogz. While the collar and the harness seem fine, the leashes are not durable at all. Our dog playfully bit through them in no time while playing and grabbing at his leashes. When we contacted Rogz in South Africa and brought the flimsy nature of their leashes to their attention, their customer service had the following to say:

"The "tears/cuts" look very neat for teeth marks and we would have loved to have had the physical items to exam. Nevertheless, we can only assume that these leads were used for tie-outs. HLL leads should not be used as tie outs only HLM (double stitched) can be used for Temporary tie outs. We are also concerned as to why the dog was chewing on the leash. This behavioural problem can be a result of boredom, anxiety, etc. and may need to be addressed."

First, they accused us of making these cuts. Then they contradicted themselves and said that we must have used the leashes as tie-outs which the dog chewed through. Of course, neither of this is true and we had told them as much in our original comments to them. But that's not all. Their arrogance and presumptuous expertise in all things dog led them to also suggest to us that our dog must have behavioural issues that needed to be addresses. Not cool! And terrible marketing and customer service!

We've decided to stick with a sturdier and much cooler brand (Lupine) and are determined never to use Rogz products ever again. Not only are Lupine products extremely well made, they are also guaranteed for life. Best of all, they are made right here in the U.S. (New Hampshire).

Porch Potty Standard: #1 Selling Grass Litter Box for Dogs

Porch Potty Standard: #1 Selling Grass Litter Box for DogsIt works great on my apartment patio. I picked this partly because of its size which is bigger than other solutions. Even though my dog is only 10lbs, it likes to circle around and search for a perfect spot to do her business. It took her 3-4 days to get used to it. Tonight, she jumped off the bed at 6 am and shook her body. i got up and saw her standing in front of the patio door. I opened the door and she jumped right on it to use it. Amazing! No need to get changed and go downstairs in the rain at 6am. Some people complained about the unit being unstable when the dog jumps on it on the manufacturer's website. I found it to be very sturdy. Nothing wobbles. The box does come with ties that I used to tie the top tray to the bottom box. However, I did not tie the unit to any patio structure. I was worry about smell since I chose the synthetic grass option. So far so good! I rinse it with 3-4 large pot of water once a week and I'm surprised it works well. It also looks great on the patio.

I bought it without the real grass which might have been a mistake. I even put another dog's poo on it to make it "more attractive" for my dog. But the best he would do is pee on the side of it, not on top of it. and he wouldn't poo on it at all. It turned out to be an expensive mistake. I ended up fencing in part of my yard to solve the problem.

The Porch Potty is well made and I can't say anything bad about it other than you may want to pay the extra money to get the real grass for the start up.

This so far is the Best Patch that I have purchased and I have purchased several different ones.

I am over all very pleased with it so far after a couple months. Grass is the best that I have seen and used. Smell is not so bad but we clean our patch with Hot water daily. I really wish they would make one a little larger since my poor American Bulldog who is large and old has a hard time making sure her business lands on the patch and not the porch.

I switched to this Porch Potty after dealing with 'The Potty Patch' for a year. I live in a high rise building with an anxious English Bulldog. The Porch Potty is big, and provides a lot of wiggle room. Sometimes my dog will circle the thing a couple of times before he chooses a spot. The cleanup system on this is simple(especially if you have been using 'the potty patch').Since my dog is high up on a balcony, we can't use the hose system, so I got the large dish that they advertise. I change it daily and it is never even close to a quarter full, for one dog. I use a jug with a spout on it to water down the potty grass, with hot dish soapy water. It really is just a few steps to clean up. It is a great quality product. I am very glad I decided to purchase this. I saw it in the SkyMall magazine, and the price really put me off, but I couldn't deny that the cleanup system on this one was so much easier than 'the potty patch' we were using. It is well worth the money if you live in a building like this one, and plan to use it for a good while. We are on the 12th floor, so getting him out so many times a day was a challenge, especially in winter.

I saw that one commenter said their dog wouldn't use it. I had that problem in the very beginning when I first purchased 'the potty patch'. He would pee on it no problem, but he refused to poo on it for a couple of days, until one day he had to go bad enough, he ran out there and did it. We made such a big deal about it and praised him that he continued. He has been pooing on fake grass now for well over a year.

Good luck to everyone on finding a solution!

First day and my dog is using it for both duties. I purchased the training sod and it definitely makes the difference. Great product and easy to assemble. My lab is 9 months old and about 40 pounds and growing. This is more than enough space for him, even when he gets to be 70 pounds in a year or so.

I researched products and decided to get the best because I didn't want to ship other unsatisfactory products back and forth and have to pay return shipping costs. It's nice to buy something and know it will work for a long time to come. It's worth the extra money to me.

Bungee Pupee 3-Feet X-Large Leash, Blue/Black

Bungee Pupee 3-Feet X-Large Leash, Blue/BlackI have really enjoyed this product. It is good quality and I even like how it looks. It is meant to keep your dogs close by and if they start to stray away, it only takes a small tug to bring them back (not meant for someone who wants a long leash).

the 3ft leash is perfect for my boxer!! he is a strong boy and with this leash, walks are a breeze. EVERY time we go for a walk, someone asks about my leash. Very happy with this buy!!! Will buy another for my future boxer!!

I bought this bungee lead for my 75lbs lab/Rhodesian mix. He is a very stubborn puller and has managed to still pull on gentle leaders, easy walkers, and any other no pull training devices we've tried with him. This keeps him in check and gives us more control over him. The leash is very sturdy and I don't see him snapping it like he's snapped other bungee style leashes in the past. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a like more control over a puller. It's a good length to help teach "heel".

It seems that a dog that can fit in this door would probably want a somewhat smaller crate entirely.
