SportDOG Bark Control - 18 levels

We have two very bark-y dachshunds that have caused neighbors to leave us anonymous notes of complaint about them barking constantly while we were away from home, so we have no choice but to use bark control collars on them while we are at work (it was either that or have their vocal cords cut, which I consider more inhumane than a bark collar). I like the bark control part of this collar very much, as it has 18 levels of correction. There are 3 different settings you can choose for your dog, each with 6 correction levels. Whichever setting you use, it will gradually increase the "correction" level until the dog stops barking, then will reset back down to the lowest correction level for that setting for when they begin barking again. It is extremely effective, and if they bark at all, they only get one or two barks out and then stop. Before purchasing this collar, we used another brand that only reset down 1 level below the last "correction" they received, which didn't seem fair in my opinion. Incidentally, our male doxie has to be on the middle setting (he's quite stubborn) but the female does well on the first (lowest) setting. We've never had to go to level 3, which I imagine would be reserved for large, stubborn dogs.

Another great feature of the bark control equipment on this collar is that it has an "off" setting, which is great for when you pack them for travel or store them away for an extended time. We've had the bark control equipment that comes with this collar for just over 7 months now and the batteries are still holding strong.

The only reason I don't give this particular product a 5 star rating is because the collar itself is awful. After we purchased these, we ended up replacing the collars immediately with nylon collars. The plastic is hard and not very flexible, and it was too big for our dachshunds (which are supposed to be miniatures, but are more "maxi-minis" since they weigh in at about 15 lbs each). Consider instead the PetSafe PDBC-300 Deluxe Bark Control Collar. It's the same bark control equipment as this item, but with a nylon collar.

I have a SportDog SBC10 that works well. I bought this product(SBC-18)and it is crap. The intensity/test switch will not stay at one setting, the dogs can change the setting during play. Most of the time I put the collar on at night and by morning the switch is on test and my dog is happily barking away.Don't buy this product.

These collars do work work but are hard on the batteries, I've had to replace them a couple of times in two months. The only part vulnerable is the microphone. If you have more than one dog (I have three) the others can (and did)damage the microphone.

Had the 10R model for a couple years for our larger dog, but it was way too big and heavy for our 11 lb. terrier. This model is much lighter and works well. The first unit has a sensor issue but was replaced with an extra collar by the factory. They have excellent customer service.

I bought this item just a couple days ago at Cabelas. The first unit I purchased was defective as the light stayed on in test mode and did not flash. I promptly returned it and now have a properly working model. The batteries last 3-6mo depend upon use and new batteries can be purchased at a local pet store for $10 for a pair of them. I recommended testing all three levels to find the one that works. For my dog the lowest mode did nothing, I could tell the middle power would curb the length of each individual bark. However on the highest mode it had an immediate affect on him, even when I would take him outside without this collar on he would look hesitantly at me prior to attempting to bark. My dog is a 9mo old puppy and I would strongly encourage any pet owner to use this on your dog as a puppy when he is young and eager to learn. I am hoping only to have to use this on him for a couple of months. If your dog is older and constantly barks with this on then there may be other behavior factors to consider and you may want to look into other means to correct its barking. Ultimately, I'm very happy with this device and would consider it an important part of puppy training.

Guardian Gear Reflective Pet Lead Leash - Blue

I bought this leash for night time or dusk dog walking. It is a nice weight and nice reflective strip. However the reflective strip is only on one side of the leash. This is ok, since the leash is rarely straight with only one side showing. I bought other leashes at the same time that have 2 reflective sides, but they are 1 inch wide and have heavier buckles. I still end up using them instead of this one more often, for the safety factor. I like the feel of this one better though.

I volunteer at a local shelter and bought this for us to walk dogs in the dark since that about 4:30pm in the winter. After about a month of use the reflective fell off :( Still a good leash but not reflective anymore.

Hartz Home Protection Pads for Dogs

I have two chihuahuas. There is no way a chihuahua can hold it all day, either in a kennel or out. Their little bladders are not big enough. Plus, they do not like cold weather or rain and getting them to potty outside is an effort in futility. I have tried every puppy pad at the local retail stores and figured out these were the best. They are quilted so they do not bunch up. My youngest dog cannot chew them up like she does the blue ones. Why they chew them up, I have no clue....it's a puppy thing! I have been buying the 24 pack of this brand pad at my local Wally mart for $7.00. They are $10 at the grocery store! The most important thing for a wee-wee pad is that it not let any liquid seep through and ruin the hardwood floors. This brand allows urine to seep through almost immediately. They are also slightly smaller than other brands we have used. Still looking for a brand that does not allow ANY seepage. This doesn't seem like much to ask, but so far all the brands we've tried allow leakage because the plastic is porous.

These pads are great. I have an elderly cat that has problems getting into the litter box "in time". I have placed a pad next to the litter box for these accidents. The pad absords the urine and locks in the smell. I have been able to purchase them at my local Walgreens since July 2011 for $10.00 for a package of 50. I have been using the Hartz Training Academy Wee Wee Pads for almost 3 years for my Chihuahua Dacshund mix. I love them and she loves them but unfortunately no more. Initially you couldn't beat the price. Walgreens always had the 50 pre priced pack for $10. Now Hartz has added another element to the wee wee pad (ANTI BACTERIAL). Super Pet Hamster Potty, Color Varies

Hamsters do go to them. They love sitting in there grooming themselves and sometimes cooling down to sleep when the environment is hot. You will spend less time cleaning soiled cages if you use these potties. They were lifesavers when I used them. I bought like 3, five or six yrs ago and they still work great. Use 'Fresh Step' regular kitty litter with these. You can get it at any grocer. It turns out to be the best litter for odor control and the hammies don't appear affected or allergic to it. Every hamster I've ever owned has used this potty for a litter. If they don't go to it is probably because the type of litter affects their respiratory system.

The top for the potty is unnecessary and my prompt your hamster to use the potty for a nest instead of a potty since hamsters like enclosed areas to make there nests. Also, the oval shape is not the best for location in a corner of the cage, if that is where your hamster has chosen for there potty location, but other than these minor problems the potty works fine. A note of advice in using the potty, let your hamster choose the location for the potty. Hamsters are clean creatures and usually will select one spot in there cage in which to urinate. I suggest noting this spot and put scooping up the soiled bedding and use in the potty for the first time. This helps the hamster identify the potty. When you change out the bedding in the potty the first time you can move to using litter.

Some of the biggest complaints I have seen is the hamster eating the litter used, and for that I'd just suggest changing litter types. Personally, I use Tidy Cat litter in my potty and have had no problems with my hamster eating it. She does play in her potty, digging around in the litter, but that is not a big deal.

Also note, the potty is not for feces. Rodent feces do not smell and are not a big problem in the cage unless you want to never clean your cage (in which case, don't get a rodent for a pet). It is the urine that smells, and having a smaller area to change out and clean fairly often is a lot easier than the entire cage.

Our hammie loves her pottie, and uses it exclusively to pee. She still poops all over the cage. Keeping the cage shavings dry is healthier for the animal. You can easily clean the potty every day, whereas cleaning the entire cage every day, or even every few days, can be impractical. She used it after about a day of is being there. She's had it for one year, and it's quite funny -she gets up out of her igloo during her middle of the day's sleep, goes pee in her potty, takes a drink out of her bottle, and goes back to "bed" in her igloo.

We use a pellitized wood shaving product for the potty. It's sold at the pet store, and is just different enough from the shavings that she treats it as what it is. I've never seen her put it in her mouth.

I bought this shortly after purchasing my 2 dwarf hamsters. It is great. At first they didn't use it, they peed in their wheel. But I read on the box that if you place it where they naturally go, then there is a better chance of them using it. I have a pet gerbil named Jade who is getting quite old. Her sister died last year, and she's too frail to put up with a new companion introduction, so she lives on her own.

As she got older, Jade began going to the bathroom in only one corner, which she had never done before. It became a hassle having to clean the whole tank so often because of all the "contents" being in one corner while the rest of the litter stayed clean. One day, I noticed this at the store and thought it would be an ideal solution. I'd be able to keep her home cleaner and she'd be healthier and happier, so I bought it.

When I first put it in her tank, she went to inspect it after a few minutes. Instead of using it to go to the bathroom, however, she started EATING the litter! I thought she'd realise after a while that it wasn't food, but after a few minutes she was still trying to eat it. And I'm sure she wasn't just trying to use it for nesting material, because she actually was eating it, not just shredding it up.

I ended up dumping the litter (I wasn't sure how safe it was for her to be eating it), but I kept the litter box. I filled it with a little bit of aspen bedding and put it in her potty corner, and she uses it regularly. It's much easier to keep her tank clean, with daily litterbox cleanings and weekly tank cleanings.

Overall, the litterbox itself was a good idea, but the litter seems a little too "tasty" to use. I'd recomment using aspen or corncob bedding as "litter" instead of the included material.

we didnt want the shock part, so we specifically looked for one with only vibration mode.

he used to just sit around when he wore dogtra one (which is a great product for training), but with this collar, he does not seem to mind running around. i guess dogtra one was hurting him when he ran.

we use the least sensitive setting and is good enough to stop him from barking aggressively towards big dogs. he barks once and turns around to come back. well, he hates big dogs, so he barks at them and sometimes even nips at their butt. He is only 12lb!

He had an extensive training by a trainer using dogtra before, so he knows what to do when his collar vibrates, but i would think even without a training it can startle your dog enough, so he/she stops barking.

he jumped into a huge puddle which was deeper than he thought... the collar got wet and it no longer works. it says water resistant, but not sure how much. being in the water for a few seconds killed it. so i am buying another one.

over all, it works and i recommend it.

By reading info on internet about this collar it seems that it is recommended for little dogs. However I think that they just probably say that because the collar is fairly small compare to other models. I decided to give it a try anyway on my 50lb dog. It actually worked like magic! The combination of the beep sound and vibration was enough to get her attention and made the barking stop.

I had this collar for a few days now and after testing it on my dog I have to say that IT IS EFFECTIVE.

I read all the reviews and most of the negative reviews were from people complaining that the collar is too sensitive, I had the same problem at first but it was easily corrected by simply following the instructions in the user manual, here is a copy and past of the manual:

ADJUSTING the bark detection sensitivity

Adjusting the bark detection sensitivity is a very important preliminary operation.

Adjusting it correctly ensures detection of the barking but helps avoid unnecessary

detection.

The detection, must therefore be sufficiently sensitive but not overly sensitive. In factory,

barking detection sensitivity is set on the maximum position (maximum sensitivity).

To adapt the detection sensitivity to the barking strength of your dog, you should proceed as

follows:

Remove the 2 screws from the battery cover with a screwdriver.

Remove the battery cover.

Carefully turn the setting screw according to the sensitivity you wish (See. Diagram 5)

Caution: the adjustment system has a stop for the minimum sensitivity and a stop

for the maximum

I could not wait for this collar to arrive. I thought it was going to be the answer to my little dogs barking. I have a 6lb papillon that is a very sensitive dog. My wife, myself, and our dog MOSES trust these batteries to keep him safe. They are overly expensive and that does not make sense with the low price of other batteries and that is why only 4 stars. We conserve by removing the batteries when we take off his collar at night and he is inside. When the batteries are in, the unit is in the ON mode and the they are constantly draining power just like a cell phone charger regardless of whether or not there is a shock, so we just remove them when not in use and they last much longer. Of course if he sees a rabbit then he goes brain numb and no battery will stop him.

We have five dogs and three bark collars which use these batteries. I have never purchased from Amazon but from several different local stores and more than half the time the batteries are dead when I open the package or very soon after the are installed. We already own the larger scat mat that we use to keep our cats off the couch when we are out of the house and have loved it for years (we never have to turn it on anymore because they were trained very quickly--one zap and they learned!). We were getting frustrated with how our cats would sleep on the top of the couch though, so we bought this. Works perfectly. They recognize the color of the plastic and keep away from it. My 15lb dog however jumps right over these mats, which for my intents and purpose is fine with me as long as he doesn't teach the kitten this trick, so your mileage may vary.

I know many people really like the scat mat, but after paying $80+ for this and one of the base mats, it didn't even work. My cats couldn't even feel the low and medium settings. They did not like the high setting, but it didn't stop them from crossing over it. Even then, they would just take a long running leap across the base mat to get into the room I was trying to block off. Waste of money for me.

I bought one of these thinking I could add it onto my existing scat mat, but in actuality, I can't... at least not without some extra extension cord/wire that it didn't come with and I didn't see on related thing to buy. So, you can unsnap your unit and plug it into this one yes, but you can't just go adding it to the expansion port of your unit without extra hardware.

I also think just having two wires across the whole strip a kind of fail... it's pretty easy for a cat paw to not touch those two wires at the same time, so overall I see this as much less effective than the mat, but if your animals are afraid of this type of plastic from previous shocks it can serve as a kind of dummy deterrent.

My son has a 3 yr old Husky mix dog. He was a good dog except he loved to run the neighborhood any chance he could get. A fenced in back yard did not stop him--he dug under the fence with help from the neighbors dog on the other side! Length of the collar can accomodate a very large dog and cannot be trimmed which leaves a long loop hanging. Turning the collar on and off can be a little confusing. All-in -all a very satisfactory product.

Use:

One Chihuahua, to train to stay in the yard

Two large breed muts, for barking at everything that goes by our fence.

Pros: I love the vibrating feature! I have only had to use the electrical impulses once on the chihuahua. A quick tap on the vibrator and she turns away from the fence. It works just as well on the larger dogs, one being a Doberman something mix.

It fits both sized dogs (I trimmed the collar down)

The price! For about 1/4 of the price this collar works just as well as the more expesive collars. (I can only speak to ranges from 1/5 to 3/4 of an acre, works just fine)

Cons: I suppose this is to be expected for the price, the material the actual collar is made from is, well, lower quality and not as pliable. The collar still works just fine, but when you are trying to get it on quickly, it can be a bit more of a challenge.

Cesar Millan Large Red Illusion Collar

This collar gives plenty of control for the handler while not causing the dog any discomfort when correcting him. I feel this is a must have for anyone training a dog. Well made and very easy to use. In fact, when Buddy sees one of us getting our keys out he immediately goes to get this collar. I think he loves it as much as I do.

We rescued Buddy,our Fox Red Lab from the county shelter in December. At 100 lbs and still growing he can be a handful using a regular collar, especially for my wife who is petite. I'm disabled due to back injuries and walk with a cane so this collar is also great for me to have handy because my pal goes everywhere I do.

I measured my dogs neck as recommended and purchased a large based on the measurements but the "correction" part of the collar was way too small. There was no slack in the rope to make the correction as needed. The rest of the collar would have fit and I beleive it is a good system; there just needs to be some tweaking for big dogs.

My dog trainer actually brought it with her one day and we put it on my dogs. I have a caddle dog mix and a pit and they both do awsome with the collar. It stays up in place, no more adjusting. And just a lil tug and they react.

It is a bit pricy, but it was worth it for me.

My dog pulls on the leash very hard but with the Illusion collar she can no longer pull my arm when she tries to lunge or pull the leash!

Love the collar it works great in keeping the correction collar in place at the top of the head. A small correction pulls back even a strong heavy dog. I have a pit/boxer mix and he's 80 lbs. I have him pretty well trained but sometimes when we see another dog or a squirrel he gets a little out of control. I'd say that this collar has helped me control him. Pair it with a squirt bottle and squirt him in the face when he acts up, and I'm golden.

My only complaint is that the clasp on the collar broke (twice!) I returned the item both times and got a full refund and exchange. The 3rd collar seems to be working fine. Could be b/c my dog has such a large neck/head... but stillthe clasp shouldn't break. Luckily, even if the clasp does come undone the rope lead is still around the dogs neck and he cannot break free. The clasps simply hold the collar in place.
