The family and the dog had so much fun together this weekend. By Sunday night everyone was in a better mood. The dog felt better and learned about lots of new things. She used less energy so we could stay out longer, and longer walks means more socialization. The family was encouraged and in a much better frame of mind to work with the dog the rest of the day. Everyone benefitted and we all grew closer and after all THAT is what this is all about.

We've used the Gentle Leader with two dogs, and with patience, they are a great training tool and a relief from dogs that pull. The key is to start when they are puppies, if you have that ability. You have to make sure they are properly fitted that being tight enough on the nose and the back of the head. So make sure you buy the correct size, which means if you adopt a puppy which grows into a larger dog, you'll have to invest in another at some point. The good news is, you'll have the smaller one for when you adopt your next dog!

We have a lab puppy that is 5 months old. I have been struggling with the martingale collar trying to teach her to 'walk' rather than run and pull and make a complete mess of our quality walk time (I do it twice a day as she is full of beans and needs 2 x 20 min walks, and am the reluctantly nominated 'leader of the pack'!). I have been increasingly frustrated and have been feeling emotional rage towards our lovable puppy.

However, the Gentle Leader arrived from Amazon today afternoon and I immediately watched the video, then tried to put the collar on. Our doggie resisted it like hell,but eventually I managed to get it in place so she could not get it off.

AND, we went for a walk.....

I have just walked back into our home after my best walk of my life with our puppy! Clearly, I think she was in some level of discomfort due to the newness of the collar, but she was absolutely brilliant on the walk! All the birdies, other doggies, every stone and piece of twig that she usually goes after were all left alone (in return for a hug, every 10 metres or so, plus loads of bikis!). I am hoping that in time the discomfort goes off and she actually enjoys the walks as well.

I am immensely grateful to you guys for this and cannot stop grinning from ear to ear!

I am disappointed with this product. The collar is very very narrow in width, not wide like the plain style medium sized one from Gentle Leader even though it's the same size. The clasp to keep the muzzle part in place won't stay put so it is constantly falling off my dog's muzzle. I've used other gentle leaders before and this one just wasn't the same quality.

I purchased this as a recommendation of our vet...my dog HATES it!! I have given up on the head collar entirely and use the leash with a harness. She is happier, and I can actually get her to WALK instead of constantly rubbing her face into the ground or with her paws to get the silly thing off. Even with the instructional DVD I can see no advantage to investing any more time or aggravation into using the head collar. Turned out to be an expensive leash...maybe it just didn't fit her properly, either way, I will not try a head collar again
