Premier Squirrel Dude Dog Toy

Our dog won't touch a toy unless it's filled with food. She's figured a lot of the puzzle toys out, and cleans out a classic Kong in record time. I really needed something to keep her occupied for an extended time, and Squirrel Dude is my man. It's similar to a classic Kong, except it has four flexible, triangular tabs in the opening. You can control the "flow" of food--simply leave the tabs as is to make the dog's job harder, or trim them so the food falls out faster. You'll have to gauge it based on the size of the treat you plan to use, and how dedicated your dog is. We like to fill this with smaller treats--kibble, bits of chicken jerky, Zuke's, and broken-up biscuits, so I just barely trimmed each tab and it works great. She'll work at this off and on all day, and sometimes will take longer than a day to empty it. We've had Squirrel Dude about six months--he takes a beating every day and has held up incredibly well. This was truly money well spent.

I bought this for my Pembroke Welsh Corgi and at first, he didn't like it. The food wouldn't come out because it would get stuck in the purple knobs that hold the food in. So finally, I just cut those off and the food came out easier (but it's not like it poured out; very subtle). He was bored with his generic dog food I put in there so I got into chopping up carrots and celery and mixing them with peanut butter and freezing it, and Little Bear goes NUTS!!! He LOVES it! And it takes him a good 30-45 minutes to get everything out. Just as long as its frozen food with some sort of buffer (like peanut butter or Kong Stuff), its one of his favorite things. It's a pretty exhaustive process to get everything out for him, and he's pooped afterwards. He likes it more than his Kong balls I'd have to say.

We don't put kibble in our squirrel buddy, as my two girls will fight to the death over it. I do, however, put some peanut butter inside the opening each morning when I leave for work. Keeps them busy for a good little while. The squirrel buddy is stronger than Kong -my mild-mannered, but very persistent 60 pound Weimaraner destroyed two Kongs -one regular and one heavy-duty. She hasn't managed to chew up the squirrel. Other toys from the same company haven't fared as well against her, but the squirrel continues to survive my ferocious chewers. Ordering three more!

My new 65 lb Malinois is a strong chewer and has chewed the tops off of several of the red Kongs. But these Buddy Squirrels appear to be thicker or of a denser material then the Kong brand. The medium sized Buddy Squirrel is the same size as a large Kong. Unless your dog is well over 65 lbs or has the jaws of a tiger, the medium size may be the correct size for your dog. My dogs have be unable to chewer through these. I cut out the four rubber "prongs" in the opening of the Buddy Squirrel with a box cutter and stuff them with canned dog food. I then freeze them over night. In the mornings when I want some peace and quiet I give my two Malinois the frozen stuffed Buddy Squirrels and this treat keeps them happily occupied for an hour or two. The medium sized Buddy Squirrels can handle almost 1/3rd a can of dog food which is exactly the amount I wish to feed of the canned food. I occasionally stuff in bits of carrot, apple, celery, peeled broccoli stems, fresh ground peanut butter (the other "Skippy-type" has too much fat and will give the dogs the runs) or even bits of raw meat to give the canned food a bit of texture. I believe dogs should have to work a bit for their food as it challenges them both physically and mentally. I have purchased a couple of the large Buddy Squirrels also but they are so big and heavy that I think they are better suited for a much larger dog. I'm afraid to play catch with the large Buddy Squirrel for fear of damaging her teeth. The large size is really, really heavy duty. I don't think a Tiger would chew through those. OK, maybe a Tiger. The medium sized ones are lighter and I feel more comfortable tossing them lightly and allowing her to catch them. Remember that dogs should be monitored with any chew-type toy.

My dog is very picky. It's difficult to give her treats, she'll smell them and walk away, but she has never done that with this treat. If I pull this bag out her little tail is wagging like crazy and she will do anything I ask to get her treat. When you open the treats smell really good, I've been tempted to try one; they smell so good. The only draw back is that you need to put them in the refrigerator once you open the bag. I highly recommend this treat for picky eatters.

my 5year old maltese is a very picky eater. she will not eat anything redmeat... this jerky is all cut up in small bite sizes, and perfect for training, however they don't have that dog jerky smell to it.. (which is good) looks / smells like regular human jerkies....

These are the best treats for nutrition & convenience. They're roughly the size of a fat pencil (pre-schooler's pencil?) sliced into 1/4" discs. They have the texture of hard salami (but no grease) so they don't crumble in your treat bag or even if you just stuff them into your pocket. Their size makes them perfect for teeny to giant dogs; and they can be used as small reminders all the way to a handful for huge jackpot rewards. I volunteer at a local vet clinic and always have some in my pocket; I haven't had any dog turn it down yet! My lab-boxer mix is super-fussy about his food (Lab? Fussy about eating? I first purchased these treats on clearance at my local pet supply store. My dog and cat loved them. I splurged and ordered another bag (approx. $15 on Amazon). Although they are expensive, there are many treats inside. They are great for training and I love the quality of the limited ingredients. I would probably not buy these again, though, as I can find similar quality grain-free training treats cheaper in my local pet supply store.

PetSafe Premier Clicker Duo

I just bought this clicker at petsmart because I have two dogs to train. It is supposed to have two distinct sounds so that each pet gets a consistent message the instant they do something right.. Great idea.. But it just didn't work. The chimes took too long to sound (that instant between the dog doing the right thing and no longer doing the right thing passed before the sound) and the click sometimes played a chime and sometimes clicked. I tried hitting the chime button hard and the click button soft, but this had inconsistent results as well.. Wish I could get one that works ad advertised.

Rushed home from petSmart to try it out.

It came with 2 batteries...no instructions for insertion. Tiny recepticle, tried one battery..did not work. I was worried about inserting two and closing. Maybe I would not be able open it again. I ended up inserting both batteries, one on top of the other and closed the cap door. The signal light blinked on and off and clickers still did not work. I had a devil of a time getting the cap door open. In a terrible sweat, I had to jimmy it open. I guess blinking light indicates low battery?? There was a website listed on the package for further "help" but it did not have one shred of advise.

This product is way overpriced for what you have to spend in gas and time to return the crazy gizmo.

UDATE: I bought batteries today with the hope that the ones that came with the clickers were old and diminished and just needed to be replaced. No such luck. Upon inserting the new batteries and after a few seconds delay, a light started to blink just like the previous ones that came with the Clik-R Duo. It will be returned.

Another UPDATE: I guess this useless thing is still making someone a ton of money... otherwise it would have been taken off the market by now. Everybody who is duped into ordering this represents $10... Multiply that by unsuspecting patrons across the country and somebody is living high on this constant source of revenue.

I just received my Clicker Duo. I was a bit concerned because the other review mentioned a delay in the chimes sounding. I am happy to report that the clicker I received worked as promised, no delay to hear the tone for either the click or the chimes. The click is a little quiet but I am used to using a box clicker.

The instructions for inserting the batteries are non-existent and remember to turn it on before you try it out. The on/off button is fairly small on the right side next to the green button.

The lanyard has a quick connect attachment so you can wear it around your neck and then pop the clicker off of the lanyard when you want to use it. This should help keep it from getting lost.

All in all I think it will be quite handy!
