Wizdog Indoor Dog Potty

The Wizdog concept is a great idea. It has the potential to be perfect for me and my dog.The problem is the grate is made of a hard flimsy crackable plastic with jagged edges! I cannot understand why they've chosen such an inappropriate plastic for the grate. It will bend and crack just by holding it in your hand. It is impossible to clean it daily without it breaking. I have replaced the grate and the same thing happened again. It is actually stressful trying to handle it without it breaking. Even before it breaks, the plastic has jagged edges that can hurt a pups paw. When it cracks it can be downright dangerous. I contacted the company last year and they said they were working on redesigning it. One year later they have not. I wonder how many dogs they have hurt. You will waste your money if you purchase this product prior to them redesigning the grate with a better plastic.

Our 4 month old puppy is paper trained. So when we got the Wizdog 2 weeks ago we put the puppy pad on the blue box, without the grid just so he can get used to the base. No we started adding the grid and he refuses to go on it and ends up peeing on the floor next to it! I don't know if it's the smell of the plastic or what, but it's not working well.

I love my Wizdog because it eliminates puddles on the floor that sometimes happen when my dog gets too close to the edge of her papers. The tray contains all urine, keeping it off the floor. It's so easy to clean up, and it keeps her feet and long fur clean!!! I just pick up poop with toilet paper and flush it as soon as possible because it can get stepped on and mashed into the grate. But this hardly ever happens with my dog. I'm considering buying a second one for another level of our home!

We used this on our puppy. We were living in a condo and our puppy couldn't hold it long enough to go down the elevator (of course!). We were using puppy pads, but he would step on the urine and poop especially when we praised him afterwards, he would get excited and just mess it all up. To top it off, he would run to the puppy pad, but would go on a corner of the pad and get urine all over the floor. We couldn't fault him for trying though!

With the wizdog, he knew exactly where to go! I think it was helpful it was raised a bit so he knew where the boundary of it was, so he would usually run to the center of it and go!

We would use the puppy pads underneath the grate and it would be easy cleanup. Couple things to watch for -sometimes the poop gets stuck in the grid, so it's a bit of a hassle to clean if it goes into the grate, so keep a toilet brush handy. Second tip, if you put it on top of a floor that's slippery (we placed our on top of tile), our puppy would run to it, and it would slide, so we ended up putting those non-slip mats underneath to prevent the wizdog from sliding.

We used this for a good 3-4 months until we knew for sure our dog could hold it longer, and we transitioned him to going potty outside. This was a great transitionary help for us!!!!

This was a total waste of money. My pomeranian was very uncomforable with the grating because she has small paws. Newspapers don't fit into the plastic container if I want to use it w/o the grates which, of course, defeats the entire purpose. It was $50 thrown away.

I must say that the combination of stuffed dog and leopard print strap is a jarring and tacky choice of materials and design, especially since a leopard is a cat. Functionally speaking this is very long. If your dog is more than 6" tall than they will probably be tempted to chew it. Also the fact that the strap doesn't come apart means if you have a sliding door you have to attach it to the wall instead of the door.

Basically if your dog is small and staying that way, your door has a knob, and you like leopard print, then look no further. If not, just move along.

I bought this item because my little Maltese would either just start barking to go out or would hide when we were leaving because he thought we were leaving without him. I tried to teach him to ring the bell but he will look at it or sit by it when he wants to go out, so we are not quite there yet but I'm pretty sure with more practice he'll get it. Even though he has yet to get the concept of ringing the bell on his own, every time he hears the bell he comes running to me and sits since he knows he is going out for his walk. I bought the 22 inch doorbell and put it at eye level around his leashes so he gets very attentive when I even go near the area.

I would give it 5 stars except the instructions on the label are a bit oversimplified. I recommend a Google search to find articles on how best to train a dog to ring a bell to announce it's "go time". For the pug owner who gave this product a low review, you simply haven't put the training time into your dog, no ifs or buts.

It's rewarding and entertaining to watch your dog learn it as well. Once he learns it, he'll abuse it (ring ring, I want to go PLAY outside) but over time, he'll know it's strictly for "going potty".

Worth every dollar of its price here for any owner willing to train their dog for a day or a week to get the hang of it.

My cocker spaniel 'leaks'. When people come to the door, when she's nervous, when she's happy: she leaks. Just a little leak. This wasn't a big issue until we moved to a new place with carpets. The Pooch Pants take care of little leaks and big leaks. As when we came back from the beach with a completely exhausted pooch, we discovered that she sleeps just like a baby: midnight potty leak included. She wears her Pooch Pants at night when we know she's too tired. It's also good for potty training since dogs don't like to pee on themselves. I bought 2 of these, size Medium for my Am. Cocker Spaniel when she was in heat. She weighs about 21 lbs with about a 17-inch waist. These may be better at being potty diapers than for what my girl needed, but this was her first heat; So I don't know if next time she will need more absorbency like this product provides. I have since found some great "panties" by Simple Solutions that are thinner and designed to fit much better. The Pooch Pad brand here was bulky and a little baggy, and my dog pulled them off several times. However, I can't imagine the medium still fitting a 35 lb dog or a 25-inch waist. Maybe I'm wrong, and I guess it does depend on the breed/shape of the dog some. The BIG problem with this Pooch brand is that the tail hole is huge, and well, her poor little "girl part" kept getting out of the hole. So, there's some leakage issues with that! When pulled up and straps tightened this takes care of the issue mostly but it's a pain. Two other brands I've found since have a great section of shirred elastic at the belly which (with the usual velcro-like straps) helps provide a much better fit. This would be a terrific upgrade for this product.

I own a dachshund who started experiencing incontinence after recovering from a back injury, and I bought PoochPants as an alternative to A. ruining my carpets and/or B. losing one of my babies. The diaper fits very well with an elastic waist and velcro flaps. My dog, Schnitzel, was a little dejected when I first put the diaper on her, but she got over it within 10 minutes.

PoochPants have a great capacity for absorption, as Schnitzel would completely release her bladder into them and nothing would leak out. I do recommend getting at least 2 diapers, though, if your dog does more than little dribbles here and there. One bladder's worth will tend to make the diaper sag, and that's where the spillovers can occur. PoochPants also keeps their promise in regards to odor control and durability. Even fully loaded, the diaper would absorb the scent of urine, and they surived many washing-machine cycles.

I'm grateful Schnitzel no longer needs her diapers, but if there's ever a time when she needs them, she'll definitely be getting PoochPants again.

My puppy had gotten old enough that his red nylon reflective Rogz, though still going strong, was starting to look juvenile on him. I don't believe in dressing up dogs (figures that I have one with a very short coat who might actually *need* a jacket!), and I think that a good collar is all the decoration a real dog will ever need. This fabulous collar is exactly what was called for. It is a thick, soft leather, and adds to his good looks without being distracting -like well-applied makeup or tasteful jewelry on a woman. The brass hardware is SOLID, as in: I seriously have not seen anything of this quality in a long time. I've heard of dogs breaking collars, and I saw it happen a couple of weeks ago, but I fully expect this collar to last the lifetime of my puppy and perhaps beyond -depending upon whether we choose to retire it or use it for a new dog.

Puppy's neck was on the low side of a medium, so I ordered a medium to make sure he'd have enough room. There was too much loose leather left over when I tightened it properly, so I cut off the excess with a pair of sharp scissors; it doesn't look quite as nice as the original finished edge, but now that it's the right length you don't even see it.

We added a rivet-on brass nameplate, and we've found that plus the brass hardware on the collar is just the right amount of bling. Perfect.

Neem Bug Repellent Spray 8 oz. 8 Ounces

My dog had some fleas crawling on her so I decided, with some hesitation, to use Frontline. Unfortunately, it did not seem to have much of an effect. I have noticed that the efficacy of the spot-ons (Frontline and Advantage) has declined over the years...

So, I found this Ark Naturals product Neem "Protect" Spray and decided to give it a try. Since it recommends that you use the shampoo in conjunction, I got a bottle of that too. My dog was bathed with the shampoo, rinsed thoroughly and sprayed with the neem solution. The product was quite effective since my dog pretty much stopped itching like a maniac by the next day. However, I feel terrible because it is possible that she had a really bad allergic reaction due to the product. Within the next 24 hours, she seemed bothered by the smell, refused to sit on a blanket that was sprayed and her eyes became runny and swelled completely shut.

Again, my dog was already allergic to dust and storage mites so I suppose that the possibility that this would happen was higher than in a dog with no known allergies. Although I enjoy some of the other Ark Naturals products and their quality, I just wanted to post this so pet owners would proceed with caution. It is probably a fine product if your animal is not bothered by it but just make sure to do a little test before a complete treatment. Be warned that it has a very strong citronella-like odor that may be unpleasant to some.

It definitely helps repel the ticks.

I took my 3 dogs out here in NJ for a walk down a road 2 nights ago, and only one had the Neem spray on (from a previous training session).

Of the three, she was the only dog that had zero ticks when we got home.

My dogs are short coated with white hair so it is fairly easy to visualize the ticks.

It does come off once they go in a pool or water, so you do need to reaply if going out to a field or roadside walk..

I used the shampoo a week ago. I had no problems with the odor. I used the spray right before we were going to go on a walk. My yorkies are tick magnets. I didn't find one bug on them after coming out of the woods. Maybe it was a lucky day or maybe it was the product, but I find that when I use neem products, they never come back with anything. However, the smell just about killed me. I didn't realize it had citronella in it. I have bad allergies and am sensitive to smells. Certain strong smells give me headaches. My nose is filled up today (a day later) and I have another headache. I'll use it again because I bought it and dont' want to waste it, but I'll wash them right after so that they aren't sleeping with me with the smell on them. This is a good company. I have liked the products I have purchased from them.

The product seemed to be working great but It gave me a little allergy so I make sure to spray her outside and then take her for a walk untill the scent isnt so strong. The problem I have with the product is that I noticed my dog started getting small bumps all over her like hives. She has never had allergies to anything so I think it could be this product. We are using it in conjunction with the neem shampoo. Also she still gets one or two fleas when using the product but anything is better than using those drugs or pesticides on her! Unfortuanatley I will have to find a different product since my dog and me seem to be allergic to this!

I called the ark naturals customer service and they said they have a new prod. called flea flicker tick kicker so I'll try that. They suggested that the neem oil might cause an allergic reaction and the new prod. doesnt have it. very nice customer service.

Venture Series Trainer Remote

We have been very pleased with the Petsafe Venture Series LONG DISTANCE trainer. Prior to purchasing it, we borrowed several different training collars from friends and this is by far the best value for the money! In fact, it responds just a well as a system that is twice its price. It is actually better because the collar is so much lighter! I have been surprised that I can leave the collar turned on all the time and only have to recharge it once a week. The remote has a auto off/on so I haven't had to recharge it at all yet (one month). Note: My dog doesn't need continual correction so you might have to charge yours more often. The "boost" button comes in handy when our dog is heading for a neighbor's cat. Please remember with any system you buy take at least 2 days to "dummy" train your dog--they feel the collar on them and they see you pushing buttons (no batteries) but they receive no negative correction. If you fail to do this they will only obey when you have the remote with you. The 1000 yard range is wonderful. I have never written a review before, but I really wanted to recommend this product.

Product seems to function as advertised with tones and shocks working. Dogs respond well to both stimulations. Quality of product is very FRAGILE. Both reciever and transmitter housing made of very thin plastic. Collar is very stretchy rubber that even when applied tight, a big dog can still get a toe nail in and forcefully take off his neck. I bought the extra collar also so I could train 2 dogs at once. 1st collar broke off in the woods somewhere, dog came back without it. 2nd collar dog removed it himself a couple of times and I found it in the yard, but the last time he removed he decided to chew it up. Petsafe customer service says they would replace if defective but dont consider a collar that a dog can remove or that breaks while running through the brush a defect.???? Just as a note while in the brush all 5 of my dogs always wear tracking collars for past several years and never once has one of them ever come off. Innotek adv 1000 was a good sturdy product made by petsafes "sister" company that I used problem free for many years but they discontinued it and now recommend petsafe as the replacement,dont be fooled.

Barney the 18 mth old Lakeland Terrier tried hard to beat us out of the door & barked whenever we left the room when we wanted him to stay behind. It was so annoying and despite our best efforts we were not having any success. We thought a good flogging would do the trick but we love the mutt too much for that. So what to do???

The "Remote Trainer" was the answer.. We read the training instructions..He's a smart dog and after a couple of jolts with the remote trainer he got the message.. We now only have to resort to the tone signal for him to sit quietly as we make our escape..good dog..

In the Yard, he went ferral when the postman called.. couple of jolts.. got the message, don't bark and leap up at the gate at postmen, passerbys, visitors.

In the park he would chase and retrieve a ball but would not give it up, preferring instead to prance around, in the hope that I would give chase to get it(something the grandkids would do). With the help of the remote trainer and a pocket full of dog treats he now retrieves the ball drops it at my feet(tone only) sits and gets a treat.. Yes...

This is still a work in progress but he has become a much more manageble dog..our anxiety level has gone down, which means his has as well..Good product.. I recommend.

I recently purchased the PetSafe PDT00-11876 and have nothing but great results. We have a 90 pound hound that is a fairly obedient dog while he is on leash. However, the moment the leash is removed, he would take off as fast as possible. After having the collar on him for about a half a day of training, we are able to go for hour long walks without the use of a leash. He stays close by and when he does want to run, he never goes further than about 100 ft then he comes back. He did get out to about 300 ft in an open field, when I though it was far enough, I only needed to use the tone. He stopped, turned around and came right back. There was no calling for him or worries that he would not return.

I did read in another review that the collor may loosen or fall off. To prevent this, I secured the collar as the instructions stated, then I secured the collar clasp with a small zip tie.

Looking back I wish I had purchased this two years ago. My dog is so much happier being able to walk around without the restraint of a leash.

Got the collar for my bear of a lab, it works great for training! Tried other methods of training, this did the trick to stop bad habits, not good when you have a 100lbs of dog jumping on people. The collar does great for aiding in basics and especially when you are trying to gain confidence with your dog off lease. I left my dog with collar on when I went to the bathroom came out, some how he took the collar off, and chewed it up some. I called the company to try and purchase just the collar and was refused because it wasn't covered by warranty! I asked for just the collar to purchase and I was denied again, just offered to pay the $200 again, which I originally paid for it. What the company did not tell me was that I can purchase a new collar, as a "second collar." I found this out by the research on the internet. If you have problems the company will only cause frustration and a waste of your time. If i had to do it over again I would not buy from this company, but I would defiantly use a training collar again.

Mother Knows Best - The Natural Way to Train Your Dog - by Carol Lea Benjamin

We've used this book's techniques on four dogs now and have had great success, to the point that neighbors always ask 'where did you take your dog to be trained, he is so good". Hah! Nowhere but here at home. BTW, we kinda think some of the routines work fairly well on kids too! Doh! Get it, use it, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Have purchased 5 or 6 copies over the year and have given it to friends as a Welcome Home Puppy gift for them... and have received much thanks, sometimes a year later, once they realize the impact of this book's techniques.

Get this book if you plan to get a dog, and read it well beforehand. Alpha dog baby... get to know yourself and know how you are perceived, or need to be perceived, and then get to work raising your puppy the right way.

Originally published in the mid 1980s, there have been a slew of 'remakes' by other authors claiming to have improved the techniques, but Ms. Benjamin's original remains the most used training book in our library.
