We bought this for our Chihuahua/Dachshund (Chi-weenie) mix puppy that loves to jump on people and barks non stop. We've had it a little over a week and now all we have to do is show her the transmitter and she is as good as gold. There is a whistle on it and if she is out of the room we push that button and she comes to us. We've only had to use the vibrator button on her. (One time I used the shock and she is a drama queen and she cried for 3 minutes solid after using the shock. I will NEVER use that on her again.) The vibrator is all she needs to behave. If she is outside and starts to bark, I push the vibrator and she stops. So the range distance is perfect. The batteries in the receiver run down pretty fast, but they are only AAA so it isn't too expensive to replace them. I love it and would recommend it for any size dog.

I purchased this item hoping that all the negative reviews were just people that didn't know what they were doing, or did something wrong with the item, that made it not work... I was wrong. This came in a bubble envelope with a sheet of instructions. There was no box, or protection OTHER than the bubble envelope. When I put all the batteries in, and tested the remote (the remote only, NOT with the collar) everything seemed to work fine. So i was surprised, and it seemed to be a little bit better quality than some of the reviews said about, the remote felt somewhat sturdy, and the collar seemed pretty good. Well, once I put the included LED up to the collar points, and tested the entire system, nothing happened. The LED did not light up, as it was suppoed to. I matched the remote to the collar, as it stated in the directions, and still nothing happened. I replaced the batteries in everything, and tried again. The included batteries are cheap off brand batteries, and probably were dead to begin with... well all of the LED's and lights work, but still no reaction from the collar. I even put my fingers up to the contact points to test the shock signal, and got nothing. The collar doesn't vibrate when I hit the button either. I chalk this up to donating my $20 to a not so good cause. I've already read the horrible reviews on customer service, so I'm not even going to bother. This was a bad purchase, and I won't make the mistake again. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE, FOR ANY REASON. The remote "flashlight" works, but I guarantee it won't be of any use to anyone, it puts off VERY little light, and the "whistle" is a horrible sounding whistle that comes from the remote, not the collar, so I don't know what use that would be to anyone either. Just don't buy it.

We have a pom that is always barking, in our garden eating dirt and plants. We have only been using the vibration function which comparable to the vibration mode on your cell phone so it does not hurt the dog. The vibration just makes him stop what he was doing previously. I would follow with a firm NO as I press the buzzer hoping that he will associate the word with the uncomfortable vibration. We have been using this device for a week and we see improvements already. Over all, very easy to use, convinient with a remote. The collar is too large for any dog under 8lbs. Our pom is 6lbs. We are using one of the cat collars with a bell that we purchased from PetSmart. That collar holds the gadget well enough. The package comes with AAA batteries but you will need a 9 Volt battery for the remote.

THE ROYAL PET COMPANY THAT MAKES SPOTTY DOG HAS BEEN EXTREMELY RESPONSIVE AND PROVIDED EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY ARE EVEN CHANGING THE PACKAGING. For now if you receive an originally packaged and rolled product you can flatten in out with you hair dryer OR soak in hot water in the tub. It worked perfectly and I can't say enough about how well the Spotty Dog Training Place works.

I love my Spotty Dog Training Place that I originally purchased! Everything was well made and fit together perfectly. The plastic coiled turf layed flat and perfectly fit the intended tray. I could not of been more thrilled, until, I ordered a replacement mat.

These are packaged folded in half lengthwise and then rolled almost like a throw blanket you see rolled and packaged. They then put a cardboard belt around it and staple it to be sent to retailers.

Herein lays the problem. Because the replacement mat is made of plastic coils it has a shape memory. Upon taking my spotty dog replacement mat out of its packaging it was a crumpled stiff folded mess. It was holding and memorizing the shape it traveled in. I imagine it sat in cold warehouses etc and further memorized the rolled and folded shape.

I was pretty discouraged because I love the actual original Spotty Dog Training Place and how true the fit was of all the elements. I decided to take my replacement mat and put a piece of plywood over it and the set a rubbermaid container FILLED with BOOKS about the same size as the mat on top of it to flatten it out.

After 72 hours of constant pressure by weighted plywood it was more flat but not completely. The center line fold was still apparent and the edges curled and a few wrinkles remained. It would not fit nicely on the training place.

I called the manufacturer who has asked for photographs. Oh good. No offer to send me another one right out or refund any money. Just given a task of photographs, which I will do.

Best Solution: Finally I took my hair dryer on high and held it close to the mat and heat flattened for about 15 minutes. This did work. The fit is still not as true as the original mat that came with the training place but with continued work I am sure I will get it right.

So in short, this potty system is fabulous but the replacement mat leaves much to be desired in how the product actually arrives at your home or retailer.

I hope others find this solution of heat flattening their replacement mat helpful and do not have to throw out something they paid good money for.

This puppy pad is coiled rubber rather than fake turf. They work well and our dogs like them better than the turf type that seems more soiled and harder to clean. Liquid runs through the coils into a pad placed underneath. Solids sit on top for easy pick up and disposal in the toilet. The dogs do not chew it. They are easy to rinse off and drip dry quickly. We have several on hand so some can be drying after washing.

I was happy with the product itself in terms of size and pricing. However, I purchased it to replace some faux grass that we used to train our puppy. The texture is not very similar to grass and our 1 year old will not use iteven though we placed it in the same bottom container and in the exact same spot as the previous faux grass. The package boasted that it is sprayed with a product to attract dogs, but we haven't found that to be the case.

Simple Solution Puppy Training Pads, 100 Count

This product is a bit larger than some I have tried and seem to have more absorbancy. I would buy these again.

I have two adult chihuahuas and I don't do 2:00 a.m. potty breaks, am gone a lot, etc. Very absorbent pads, so no more wet paw prints all over the floor. Bought in this quantity (100), its a good buy.

I've used a lot of brands of wee wee pads, and this is my favorite brand. I recently tried Nature's Miracle because I couldn't get Simple Solutions at my local Petco. I placed the pad on the garage floor which is slightly sloped, my dog used it right in the middle just as she's supposed to. The urine flowed right off the pad and streamed down the floor (no, the pad was not upside down).

I've never had this problem with Simple Solutions. The pads absorb, my dog can use them more than once, and they don't leak. They also seem to contain odor better than some other pads.

I'd have given it 5 stars, but I have one gripe. They changed the design of the pad a couple years ago, and since then, the urine spreads out more rather than being isolated to a small area. This means fewer uses per pad as my dog does not like to "go" in the same place twice. I'm not sure why they did this, because the pad was very absorbent before. It's still equally absorbent, I just have a picky dog. :-)

However, I have not had good results with SimpleSolution's recycled product. If the pad is on a slope, that one doesn't absorb right either. Also, when I unfold it, bits of dust fly everywhere. So I recommend going with this particular product the normal white puppy training pads.

These absorb alot better than the four paws brand. The four paws brand tends to leak and these have never leaked once. Worth the extra $1 and change for a higher quality puppy pads. My puppy only took a few minutes to recogize this is where he pees/poops. My puppy now prefers to do his business outside(and me, too) but because I am gone all day, i leave one out in case he can't hold it till I get home so there is no accidents on my wood floors.

Other Thoughts:

I use this with clicker training and it works very nicely. If using small treats it holds more than one session of training and frees up a hand as it isn't required to be held and can dispense treats easily with one hand. This comes in handy when you have a leash, clicker, and need to give treats.

This product is nearly perfect for what it does. The material is tough, but soft enough to easily use. Just squeeze the bottom and out come the treats. Get too many, pop them back in through the top. Unlike a bag, the treats won't spill if you bend over or lean down. My only minor quibble is that the belt hook included is not easy to attach. I bought a little 10lb carabiner which clips on to the speed-e-treat in a snap, and on/off my belt loop just as quickly. Great product that would easily get 5 stars with a better belt clip setup out of the box. Recommended without hesitation.

This thing is fabulous. I've taken a few dogs through obedience and always have a hoodie or jeans pocket full of dog treat crumble when I'm done. I'm also usually missing cues or rewards to the dog b/c I'm digging around trying to get a treat out. (I have a Bull Terrier, and food motivation is the way to go, these dogs would move cars if there was a treat in it for them.)

I took another reviewers advice and got the Charlie Bear treats, and also got a box of the Zuke's Mini Baked. They both work but the Charlie Bear works significantly better. They are little discs of a treat that slide right out. By the end of the first class I had figured out how to have the dog in heel position in my left hand w/the leash and use my right hand to squeeze and dispense treats w/o even stopping. Often more than one will come out, but I just hold it until I need it, works better than going to the thing ever 10 steps anyway. The Zuke's treats are more 'chunky' and harder to get out, you sort of have to open it 'more' and I found myself dropping more of these.

The clip could certainly be better and I had planned to swap it with a carabiner but so far it's working just fine for me, once I got it attached correctly. There is a 'right' and 'wrong' way for sure, if you get it through back to front (I think, don't have it w/me now, use your sense) it lies flat against your hip instead of flopping around. I just slide it down onto the pocket of my jeans and have no problems. Like another reviewer pointed out, it's great to be able to bend down and more around w/o dumping your little 'fanny pack' of treats everywhere.

I highly recommend this product, does exactly what I was hoping to find something to do. Amazing, how simple it is, really.

Petmate AKC Padded Dog Halter

I won't rant and rave about the benefits and drawbacks of using a headcollar each dog is different and responds differently to various training tools, and I'm assuming that you've found this product based off your own research and recommendations from trainers and friends.

The hard part is deciding which headcollar type to use. In the past decade, I've used several different headcollars, including the Halti, the Gentle Leader, the Petmate AKC Headcollar, and the Holt. In my opinion, the Holt is the sturdiest, most comfortable, and most flexible headcollar of the whole bunch, and is a worthy successor to my previous favorite, the Halti.

The Company Of Animals Halti Head Halter Black Size Halti Head Halter Black Sz 0 Training & Behavioral Aids

The Halti was, previously, the best halter for a very simple reason: it had side-straps on either side of the dog's face that prevented the noseband from riding up a dog's face and digging into the dog's eyes. It also worked without cinching the dog's mouth shut, like the Gentle Leader. However, the noseband was not padded, and while I made my own homemade padding for the noseband, it was at least very wide to prevent the material from biting into the dog's skin (unlike the Gentle Leader). The Halti generally came only in black, though colors could be found online. The Halti, despite being designed to function loose (and allowing a dog the full use of its mouth), often made your dog look "vicious" by wearing a "muzzle", particularly in the black color. Prior to the holt, this was the most comfortable.

HALTI PROS: comfort, looseness, prevents noseband from riding up, safety buckle connects to collar

HALTI CONS: limited colors, no padded noseband, can not be cinched tight for short-nose breeds

Gentle Leader Head Collar, Size: Small, Color: Royal Blue

The Gentle Leader, however, was the choice for short-nosed breeds. The Halti suffered when a shorter-snouted dog pawed at the noseband to remove it. The Gentle Leader's design cinched the dog's mouth closed with a locking mechanism, allowing it to be used snugly on short-nosed breeds. For standard-shaped noses, the cinching could be kept more loose to allow for more comfort. It did not have the side straps like the Halti, so it could ride up into the dog's eyes. The noseband was narrow and not padded (unless you shell out extra $ for the premium version not found in stores), so it bit into the dog's skin at the top of the nose. However, it came in multiple colors which helped it look less like a muzzle.

GENTLE LEADER CONS: uncomfortable narrow non-padded noseband (note: premium GL has nose padding, but still narrow), can ride up into eyes

Petmate 3/4-Inch by 16-24-Inch Medium AKC Padded Dog Halter, Brown

New to the game was the Petmate AKC-branded headcollar. This came in many colors and was pre-fitted with a fleece padded noseband. The noseband color is always brown, and there are additional options for colors of the straps. This headcollar looked the least like a muzzle. However, the locking mechanism was not sturdy and would often slide, allowing dogs (even long-nosed breeds) to paw the noseband off their face. It also did not come with a safety strap to connect the headcollar to a dog's normal buckle collar (though one could be homemade very easily). It also buckles underneath the neck, rather than on the side of the face. The Petmate headcollar can also ride up into the eyes of your dog.

PETMATE AKC PROS: color choices, fleece padded noseband

PETMATE AKC CONS: loose & slide-able lock, no safety strap to connect to collar, rides up into eyes.

Coastal Holt Dog Walking Collar, Blue, Size 0

Now, onto the Holt. The Holt is identical to the Halti except for two key features: a "camlock" and a foam-padded noseband. The camlock is a very tight locking mechanism that does NOT budge when the dog paws at the noseband. It is a great tool to keep the headcollar ON your dog. For short-nosed breeds, the camlock can be set tight and will stay in place. It has the same great features of the halti to prevent the noseband from riding up into the eyes, and the safety strap to connect the headcollar to a buckle collar. In addition, the noseband is padded with black foam material, not fleece, and is extremely soft and comfortable. It is sewn on the underside of the headcollar, and does not interrupt the color (can not be seen while the dog is wearing the headcollar). The Holt comes in a variety of colors, including red, pink, and blue.

HOLT PROS: extremely comfortable, foam padded noseband, noseband doesn't ride up into eyes, camlock keeps noseband in place even with short-nosed breeds, multiple colors

HOLT CONS: ???

If you are considering a headcollar to train your dog, I highly recommend the Holt for all breeds. It is a worthy successor to the Halti and, thus far, I have found no drawbacks.

I bought this item to try because my 150-pound Doberman boy constantly pulls me when I put a regular collar on him. With this item, he doesn't pull. I had tried another head halter from another store, however, it rubbed and chaffed him across the bridge of his nose. THIS halter DOES NOT DO THAT! It's a soft, fleece type material that doesn't bother him whatsoever. I baby and spoil my huge doberman boy, and he gets only the best. Well, this product IS the best. I give it 10-Stars and highly recommend it for it's quality and performance.

Our dog freaked out the first time we put it on her. She did not like the nose part at all and ran around the house in circles until she got it off of herself. The second time, I put it on her and ran her straight out the door, and didnt stop running until she stopped fighting the collar, which was about a minute, then, she could care less that it was on her. Normally on walks, she would act like a psycho dog and drag me down the street and would act nuts when people, cars, or other dogs went past. We have had several dogs in the past, but Tinkerbell is just hard headed and she would lose her mind the second she got out of the door. This collar improved her manners on walks 100%! The way it fits around the neck and muzzle makes it almost impossible for her to pull me, and when she would try and run towards other dogs and people, a gentle correction got her right back on track. The item works but it requires constant attention to prevent harm to my dog. It tends to ride up to her eyes and I feel this is dangerous. It does work for keeping my dog in check but it is a fitting nightmare.

despite the positive reviews, which is why I purchased this item, I had to return it. I properly hooked the collar around her neck, looped the nose portion up over her nose & tightened it, then attached the leash to the ring provided. Once we set off on the walk I notice she tries to wiggle out of it but I tell her 'no' & she settles down pretty quick. When we see another dog & she starts to pull I pull back & tell her 'no' & the head halter does indeed work & pull her head toward me, so I think good this will work, except I notice as more pulls happen during the walk that the nose portion, which already fairly close to her eyes pulls up as she struggles to pull her head away and comes up across her eye. Once I see it happens several times during a couple of walks, I relaize I can't keep it because I don't want her eyeball scraped, damaged or needing to be removed because of theis item. After the 1st time it happened I double checked the nose loop, re-adjusted it & tightened it a bit more, but she pulls her head & wiggles differently each time & the nose loop just doesn't stay still & lie flat thru all of that. Should give it a 1 for being dangerous, in my opinion, but I gave it a 2 for effort as it does work but there's not enough control/structure in the nose loop to keep it from wiggling around & pulling this way & that & I can't risk eye injury. I guess it's back to the pinchy collar thing until she's been trained enough (she's in classes) to stop pulling & ignore outside stimuli almost entirely. BTWthe pinchy collar still does not stop her from pulling as she's very focused.

I have a rescued lab that was never trained to walk on a leash. She would pull us all over. I checked out this leash at a local pet festival in our town and bought one immediately. The dog learned quickly that constantly pulling on this leash was futile. It wears her out to try and pull forward, because the lease is trying to pull her back. While more expensive then the normal nylon leash you can get at a pet store, it is well worth the money!! It lasts, it doesn't bite into your hand if the dog does pull, and you will find that your dog learns to walk instead of pull very quickly.

Easy Walk Harness - Large, Purple

We have two German Shepherds and they are quite powerful. Trying to walk them can be quite the task. They are hard to hold back if they want to get at something with a normal collar and leash. As soon as you put this on, there is an immediate change. The harness prevents them from being able to pull hard on you so it gives you much more control.

We highly reommend these. The only con is that they are a little difficult to fit, but once it is set it is excellent.

OMG, this is unbelievable....I have a 75 # puppy who pulls really badly and I just had a hip replacement. With this in place, NO WAY, can they pull and takes walking him to a new level.

I foster and adopt rescues. I have used the "prong collar" for some of my problem "children" with nominal results. I opted for the harness and for some reason saw a dramatic improvement in walking the dogs. Of course, keeping in mind that appropriate training of the human and dog, remaining consistent (and calm and assertive)are the key factors.

He has already figured out how to get out of it so if your thinking a couple of inches isn't that big of a difference, IT IS!!! When walking he is distracted by the harness so this is a good thing & a bit annoying as is a certain smell or sound!!! I'm sure in time he'll get very used to his harness & so will we, I'm sure he has to fit into it better to help him feel more comfortable!! Do be careful of those slight measurements, they do make a big difference!!!

Precision Pet Little Stinker Heavy Duty Poop Scoop with Spade

Ive been using this scoop for several months now and it's the best one I've bought. VERY sturdy. Considering it's left outside in the weather all year long, that's a very important feature. My previous one had a wood handle and eventually it just broke, so I was happy to find this one, and if I'm not mistaken, I think this one was actually a lower price! Not sure on that, but whatever I paid for it, I'm really REALLY happy that I bought this one. Oh also, those ones that look like rakes are impossible to use. They get caught on the grass and it's just a big old mess. This one with the flat pan presses the grass out of the way and I just do a little "chip shot" under the poop and into the scoop it goes. OH the other cool thing is that the handle is adjustable so you can get it to the perfect height so you don't have to stoop over.

From the start I really liked this tool. However, almost immediately the adjustable handle locks got really got real flaky and would become unlocked. Now after 7-months the spot welds on the pan came apart making it unusable. It is a real shame because this could have received 5-stars with a little quality control.

Updated* I contacted the manufacturer directly and they sent out a complete new unit with no questions asked.

I had a difficult time finding a quality pooper scooper pan but this is defintiely it! It is a well-made, quality product and the adjustable handles are a plus!

Upon receiving this item, it seemed nice, but not quite as nice as I had hoped. Still, I would say my initial impression was 4 stars. Spade and scoop are both a very reasonable gauge of steel. Rivets and plastic are pretty nice. The spade seems a bit wide for the scoop; it makes it in but a smidge more clearance wouldn't hurt my feelings. The aluminum shafts seem a bit on the flimsy side. All in all, a pretty good product though.

So, why only 1 star instead of 4? Well, it broke the second time I used it. I couldn't even tell you how. It seemed fine the first time I used it, but when I went to use it a second time a week later, the adjustable section of the spade was loose, and kept falling down. I tried to tighten it, but to no avail. I'm actually very familiar with the type of mechanism that is inside, as I used to fix trekking poles as part of my job. Its the same concept. This one; however, is just poorly made and unrepairable. So sad to see a good product with real potential fall flat on its face due to a simple issue of cutting corners. For fifty cents more you could have a quality locking mechanism. I would have rather seen a simple straight unadjustable one piece shaft than one that fails so easily. That or use a quality mechanism; I'm willing to pay the difference.
