General Cage 200 Series Gold Dog Crate

This is a premium crate. It is well-made and durable. I purchased it to replace an old General Cage crate which lasted about 18 years with much heavy use. It was still useable, but after so many years, the finish was looking rusty in spots...made worse by the fact that I live in a humid climate. I show dogs, and this is the crate I take to the shows. It is quick and easy to set up and to fold down again. Only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that I found a few slightly rough edges. I easily remedied the problem by smoothing those areas with a light file. Most people probably would not have even noticed those few rough spots, but I am a bit fanatical about eliminating any potential for a scratch or cut on a dog's paw or nose or damage to a dog's coat or snag in my own clothing. The crate was delivered quickly as promised, which I very much appreciated. I would recommend this crate and would purchase it again.

Kyjen Dog-Agility Starter Kit

I thought that purchasing this kit would be an inexpensive way to start training my dogs in agility. However the tunnel is too short and lightweight, the jump is a joke for anything bigger than a maltese, and the weavepoles are nothing special. The rest is silly stuff, like red nylon to creat a "pause box" and red, white and blue ribbons to let kids run their own "Agility Show."n So I really don't use the kit at all.

There is no cheap way to start training your pet for agility. But you can save money by buying PVC piping to build a variety of jumps, by sawing off the bottom of an old plastic trashcan to create a short, but sturdy tunnel, and by using a flat wooden bench to create a table or "pause box." The best way to start agility is to join a training club or class led by a knowledgeable instructor who has their own high quality equipment.

I have a 45lb, 1-year-old Australian Shepherd and I wanted to see if she would be interested in agility before I invested more time and money into it, so this set seemed perfect. I also have a 65lb lab mix who likes to join in the fun.

THE PROS:

It is compact and stores easily when not in use, unlike professional agility equipment. It is simple to set up and easy to use. It's fun my dog took to it right away and we have a great time training and running around with it. It lets us practice some basic agility commands and showed me that my dog LOVES the idea of agility. Oh, and even my 65lb lab likes to take a run through the tunnel once in awhile.

THE CONS:

Well, you get what you pay for, right? One run through the tunnel, and there are little holes from my dogs nails everywhere on it (she's 45lbs remember). The tunnel is quite short (compared to professional ones)and a very thin material, but other than the cosmetic damage from her nails, I think it will still hold up for use. None of the materials are very sturdy or strong, but I haven't had any huge fall-throughs yet in the 5-6 times we've used it. The weave poles and the tunnel are the only two things I really like to use...sure, maybe if I had kids they could use the ribbons and such, but they aren't of much use to me.

OVERALL: I'm happy with the purchase! I hoped it would be a little sturdier and challenging, but at least now I know that agility is something my dog and I can have fun doing seriously, so now we can look into purchasing/building some more intense obstacles and joining a club. If you're looking to have some fun with your dog and not being too serious, then this is perfect! If you are looking to get this because you just bought a Border Collie and you want he/she to be an agility star, then I would recommend skipping this and heading straight to a training ring.

I have done a lot of dog training but I have never trained in agility before and was looking to teach my dogs something new. I have enjoyed using the tunnel inside during the heat of the summer to train my dogs and give them an activity to do. Once they got the idea, they really enjoyed it. I am eager to try the other equipment outside now that the temperature has cooled. This product could have gotten a higher rating but the instruction manual was terrible. The teaching methods in the training manual go against a dog's natural instinct. I would recommend buying a book or researching the proper way to train for agility than to rely on the instruction manual.

When I took the tunnel out of the box I could see there were tears in the seams. My dogs were very happy to use the tunnel, but within the first two days of use, there was a tear in the fabric from the dogs running through. The material used is not strong rip-stop fabric, but just light-weight nylon. Nevertheless, since my budget won't accomodate the price of a well-made tunnel right now, I exchanged this kit for another. You get what you pay for.

It's winter here and the ground is frozen, so I did not try the other items.

PETCO Dog Training Clicker

When I found this product I was ecstatic over its cheap price. However, when it arrived, I clicked it about five times and it broke! Now it clicks only sporadically, which, needless to say, is completely useless for clicker training. I ended up buying clickers from Karen Pryor's website. They cost a dollar each, but operate with a button mechanism, which I like a lot better. So far so good with the new clickers.

Missus Olde Hippie, (MOH), was 46 back in 1995 when multiple sclerosis put her in a wheel chair. 1n 2000, she got a Golden pup, as a pet, wondering about the possiblities. By the time he was 2, Rufus was beginning to anticipate her needs, sensing her body language, pressing his body against her hand, saying, "grab hold, I'll help you stand", and so much more. It was training time. I searched and found a simple figure of 8 halter, a padded strap that looped around his neck and his torso. And I picked up a cheap clicker at Petco. He caught on by the third click, and as her MS became Parkinson's Disease, her needs increased rapidly; and Rufus was always ahead of us, asking, how should I handle this new problem, and this new problem. Rufus died on her birthday, 2 years ago; he's in a Pet Semetary, a converted raised bed garden in the back yard. Pushing up the dozens of daisies I planted for him. By this time, the P.D. had confined MOH to a hospital bed in our living room, P.D. meds quit working after several years, so I needed another dog to help me help her. Long story short: The dog rescue network found 2 year old Mister Darcy, Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog, in a shelter in Georgia, and dozens of strangers chipped in to deliver him, 1000 miles away, to his 4th home. An unwanted shelter dog, he was at MOH's bedside 20 minutes after entering our home and he hasn't left MOH since. She is the herd that he was born to watch over, a million years of DNA told him just what to do. And the clicker? He figured that out by day's end. She wears it on a wrist band, and even when he's out back relieving himself, he hears that loud, simply constructed, Petco clicker and comes running. The design reminds me of a child's toy from another age. It's 10 years old now, but still sounds off loud and clear. We've tried the slick, submarine shaped versions, their sound varies from soft to medium, no two are alike, even from the same six pack. I'm thrilled to discover I can replace it, happy to pay the shipping, which is cheaper than the gas required to drive the 60 miles to Petco. Karen Pryor's contributions are beyond words, but she hasn't put her name on a clicker yet that matches the performance and durability of this old relic. MOH now has leukemia, she'll only need a clicker for another year or two, so whatever I order today oughta last her.

Do go to the store to buy this product though. There is a lot of variation in the positive feel of the click and the volume of the sound. I've used a bunch of button clickers and they all are quieter and the spring on the button wears faster than the clicking sheet. don't over complicate this choice, get on of these simple box clickers, they just work the best. love my petco brand one because I got to go into the store and pick the snappiest one. I have a small indoor dog who is very picky about wanting a clean puppy pad. So I thought this product would be the answer to my prayers, offering my dog a clean, dry place to go while relieving me of the burden of changing his pad several times a day and eliminating accidents caused by me not getting the pad changed often enough to suit his royal dogginess. I bought my Pet Loo from Gulf Coast Pet Products here at Amazon, and it arrived in good condition, although the grass was very flattened and I've never been able to get it to stand up properly. Still, not a big issue.

It took quite a while to train my dog to the Pet Loo mainly because he HATES anything that shifts underneath his feet, and doesn't like unlevel flooring. But I finally won out, thanks to a snowstorm, and was able to get rid of the pads at last. Or so I thought.

I followed the company's instructions carefully. I made sure to rinse it with hot water every night, and put it in the tub for a good, thorough cleaning once a week. The company assured consumers on it's website that, if these instructions were followed, odor would not become a problem. Boy, were they wrong. After a couple of weeks of constant use by my 10 lb. dog, it began to seriously stink of urine. I've tried flushing it out twice a day instead of once (which didn't help at all), and even tried adding bleach to the water the last time I cleaned it. The bleach worked, for a couple of days then it was right back where it was before its weekly cleaning. This is a serious issue, as the unit is in my bedroom and the smell spreads all through the back half of our house.

I've examined it to try to figure out what is going wrong, and my best guess is that the holes drilled into the grass to allow the urine to drain aren't spaced closely enough together. In some areas, they're two or three (or more) inches apart, and I suspect that's what is causing the issue, as the holes on my grass look nothing like the holes in their photos of how the underside of the grass is supposed to look.

I doubt I'm the only one who has had this problem. When I purchased the product, almost a year ago, the company website claimed that nothing more than a daily rinse and weekly wash was necessary to control odor. I recently visited the site to find that they had begun recommending a spray 2-3x/week of an enzymatic cleaner they produce in order to get effective odor control. Since the bottles are about $15/16oz (including shipping) this means that the cost benefit of not having to buy puppy pads has been erased. When I checked the website the other day, the frequency recommendation for the cleaner had been removed, although the product itself was still being sold.

Since I've already invested a great deal of time and money into this product, I will try the recommended cleaner to see if there's any improvement. If anything astonishingly effective occurs, I'll add onto this review to let everyone know. However, at this point, I'm frustrated with the product and feel sufficiently mislead that I suggest that new puppy owners look into the grassy puppy pad holders Walmart has to offer for $40, rather than spending three times that amount on this product.

EDITED TO ADD:

The reason I gave the Pet Loo two stars is twofold. First, if it weren't for the smell, it'd be a truly great product. Even with the odor issue it's more convenient than using puppy pads. Secondly, if the product were to be used outdoors, it would probably work really well. I don't believe the odor is strong enough to make it unpleasant outdoors on a patio or balcony. Taken together, I believe that earns the two star rating. If it had been advertised as a "suitable for outdoor use only" product, I would have rated it even higher.

I agree with the other reviewers that state the factory hole spacing in the grass mat doesn't provide adequate drainage.

THE PROBLEM: the grass mat doesn't have the special pass-through mesh backing like some other specialized puppy grass products use Pet Loo uses the standard solid-sheet-of-rubber-mat-backing you find at the neighborhood hardware superstore. The holes look like they're burnt through the rubber grass backing with a hot wire, are very irregularly spaced (mine had several 3"x4" areas with NO holes at all, looks like they missed large patches when making the holes), and some aren't cleanly perforated. Basically, the urine needs to flow sideways several inches before draining (coating the grass blades, the backing, and sometimes the dog's foot in the process).1

MY MODIFICATION: I used an X-acto and added my own holes every couple of inches. It took a while, and I must've added 50 or more holes to fill in all the factory gaps, but the Pet Loo works now like it should have out of the box. Urine drains well, and only simple maintenance needed to prevent severe stinkness!!!

ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTION: you can buy a 23"x23" replacement grass from one of those companies that make the e-z drain mesh backing type. I ordered three mats from a company called k9grass that makes mats to custom sizes (I have no conflict of interest, and am not trying to endorse their products for any personal gain...), but they're kind of expensive.

PROS: the base is light, made out of very sturdy plastic (has a plus-brace for rigidity). It holds my little potato (13# Jack Russell) with ease. It might even hold my weight (about 155#). The urine collection cup slides out easily and holds plenty of liquid, no spills yet for me. After modifications and weekly cleaning (hose down in the shower, hand rub both sides with gentle soap.

CONS: poorly executed grass mat as above. for the price, there's no excuse for faulty design / shoddy craftmanship, should work out of the box without modification.

Overall, being a tinkerer at heart, I actually had fun slicing and dicing with the rubber mat. I'd have to say I like my Pet Loo. My dog didn't take too long to get used to it, and now she pees on her own time, doesn't have to sit around waiting for a walk.

have a new yorkie puppy and was looking for alternatives to expensive puppy pads. researched this product on-line on several sites and read great reviews for it so decided it was worth the money. found best price at amazon so placed our order. we have had the product for a few weeks only and have been very disappointed. our puppy had no issues using once we got him used to it and we thought it would be great but then we began to notice a bad smell coming from the grass. despite cleaning the grass daily per the instructions provided, the odor did not go away. more problematic was the fact that when we gave the grass a thorough weekly cleaning, as instructed, the underside began to completely disintegrate and the grass began to unravel. the product claims the grass should not need to be replaced EVER but after a month, we couldn't use it anymore. even though we bought an extra grass so we would have one to use while we cleaned the other, both have had the same problems. now we are back to the puppy pads and hoping to find more economical and eco-friendly alternative!

did want to say that despite being extremely disappointed with pet loo product, we were VERY satisfied with customer service from Amazon. they responded to our issues very quickly and were happy to refund our money so we don't feel like we lost out too much. have been an amazon shopper for several years and have always been happy, now even more so!

We live downtown on the eighth floor with slow elevators that break down a lot so potty training a puppy was too hard without finding an indoor solution. We started with PupHead grass which was working ok for us the first 10 months of potty training until our bulldog outgrew it and stared relieving himself on the sides of the grass, spilling onto the floor.

We purchased this product hoping that it would be easier to clean & use by our bulldog. In theory the Pet Loo being raised was the solution since he'd have to hop on. However once he jumped off for the first time the grass went flying & freaked him out to the point he would only use the grass if we placed him on & took him off. We ended up using screws to keep the grass from moving but he'd still be shaking in fear every time we put him on it. We left it out for him for about a month to see if he'd warm up to it himself, meanwhile taking him on his daily walks 3x a day. He never did warm up to it but he did end up holding his bowels while we where at work.

Cons:

Poor design grass has rubber backing which takes days to dry fully & still slips under the weight of heavy dogs

Horrible smell I rinsed every time I'd place him on it with water & clean in twice a week in the tub and it still smelled worse than the Puphead grass

Eye sore other potty grass on the market don't look as cheap as this one

Pros:

SInce our dog was petrified of the thing it actually ended up potty training him. We now just take him out 3-4 times a day & he's doing fine not having a place to go in the loft anymore.

If I had to do it all over again I'd buy the larger version of the pup grass we had before which was a bit more expensive. We ended up tossing the Pet Loo this weekend.... I guess you get what you pay for.

I've tested many dog potties and this one is my favorite. I like the sizes it comes in and the way it drains. The drawer pulls out so you can easily carry the urine to the toilet for disposal. The grass is a little course, but my dog doesn't mind it. I keep mine on my deck so I don't notice any problem odor as long as I rinse it fairly regularly. Received the paw puppy trainer today. The artificial grass is chopped up, ragged edges and falling apart. The artificial grass is cut way to small and does not fit the tray. The clamps that hold the two layers together are warped and do not hold. If a puppy ever used it the grass would come out of the tray just by them walking on it. A piece of Crap.

This product has a decent price but the product itself is not up to par. The grass piece is very cheap, it doesn't fit the plastic part. Nothing Is holding the grass to the plastic so it just gets kicked around by my dog. Also after three washes with soap the grass started to smell funny. Also the grass is very easy for a dog to chew up and rip. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

This is one beautiful leash. It has been through inclement weather and remains soft, pliable, and great looking. This is no leash that a dog can chew to pieces! And, by the way, I do treat it too with leather balm, just because I love it!

Who doesn't like the look and smell of leather? Actually, a stiffer leash is easier to use when handling your dog. This leash looks nice, is flexible but has enough 'body' for better control (than a soft nylon lead) and the braiding at either end will help increase its lifespan at those areas where it is usually stressed (allows it to stretch a little). A leash to last the life of your canine friend. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because it's pricey.

Punk Hollow sent a similar leash in brown last Friday and I received it on Monday in time for a training class. The leash is braided at the handle and clasp areas and appears to be sturdy enough to withstand the teeth of my 20+lb peppy foster dog, who has gone through two hiking leashes and two regular leashes and hasn't yet bitten through this one. We own a large Doberman that is quite stubborn and unfortunately has quite a prey drive. We did not want to lose him over chasing squirrels into the street, so we opted to get him a shock collar. Like other reviewers have stated, you only need to shock your dog maybe twice before they get the association between the tone and shock. Also, there were no product reviews posted on this item from the retailer, but I found plenty of reviews posted for the exact same collar by different retailers. Those reviews ranged from 3 to a 1. I'm giving it 2 stars only because it did work for a few days.

I wish there was a way to combine the product reviews all in one place because even though it says "Be the 1st to review this product", I'm hardly the 1st person to write a review of this collar.

I'm trying to get my $ refunded so I can purchase a collar that will be more durable and reliable, not a cheap, fragile collar like this one was.

Dogtra Surestim 1 Dog Low-Med Training Collar

I would recommend buying this collar with the Leerburg video titled "Remote Collar Training for the Pet Owner". You have to know how to use the collar for it to be truly effective training. I bought this collar for my 10 month old, 85 pound, handler hard, dominant male German Shepherd. He is a very mouthy puppy and when he wanted attention he would nip at me playfully, but from such a large dog this is very painful. A verbal correction would not work and if I would try to redirect him with my hands, it was actually percieved by him as a reward as I was then interacting with him as he wanted, which increased the nipping. This collar allowed me to give him a correction for nipping without me having to be physically involved and the mouthing stopped after three corrections. He will need a review session once in a great while when he gets really excited, but overall, he is much improved. He has been the perfect dog other than this issue, so now I can really enjoy him. This collar works perfectly for jumping up, and I am using it currently to train for consistent recall as he is a bit stubborn as well ;-) I bought this e-collar with the Leerburg video titled "Remote Collar Training for the Pet Owner". I love his training videos and find then very helpful. I would highly recommend this video to watch prior to using any e-collar. This video shows you how to properly adjust the collar to the right setting, correct fit and how to properly introduce the collar to your dog so the dog does not become conditioned to the collar. This means the dog does not know the stim comes from the collar, they think it comes from you, so they will always be more inclined listen. If the dog becomes conditioned to the collar, they will only listen when they have the collar on because they know the nick comes from the collar only. Great product!

Absolutely worth every penny. Not a single complaint about this collar. I recommend it to everyone. I have a 80 pounds golden retriever who is in and out of the water and we've never had a problem. We've hiked through multiple storms, and again no issue. The dial is very useful because you can set the intensity to the exact level for your dog.

For the money, this is a very nice collar. I'm of the mind that I won't nick my dog with something that I wouldn't first try myself. I found it interesting that this collar has such a huge range of stimulation. The dial goes from 0-125. I put it on my leg and found that I felt almost nothing until around 30, and even then it was incredibly low. I started to actually feel a bit more of a sting around 60. I'm assuming that the very low range would be good for really small dogs. The remote is compact, easy to use, and has a decent range. If you're on a budget, this is the one you'd want to get.

I wish there had been just a bit more about the proper technique in using the device, The instruction manual is basically what each button does, and how long to charge the product before using it for the first time, rather worthless if your looking for actual dog training information. But, the Rhiostat dial works at a very minute scale, slowly increasing the stimulation. And I'm so glad I spent the money for the sure-stim model, which vibrates in your hand. It gives me instant feedback as to whether my dog is responding to my correction, or if I need to increase the stimulation to get the expected outcome. All in all, this is a great collar, waterproof, hearty, easy to use without looking and reliably gets the job done for me. This is my second one, the first I loaned out, and she loved it so much she didn't want to give it back, she decided to buy it off me instead, so I had to buy another one, and I picked the exact same one.

Works great as advertised, battery life and range is good. The only problem is that it is a little big for my 15lb Jack Russel. I use vibrate most of the time and that seems to do the job. A setting of 50 (on a scale of 127) is all that I needed, that level is just noticeable but not uncomfortable on my arm. I tested 127 on my arm and it got my attention. The small size of the transmit unit fits in my pocket but I don't use my pants pocket anymore because of an accidental transmit. Amazon delivery is great, got it on the second day.
