First of all, I have a one year old--75 pound Golden Shepherd who has lived in the country most of her life. This means she's gone outside without a leash running around several times a day. She was very well trained except for leash-training because it seemed a huge hassle and unnecessary. I regretted this immediately when I moved into an apartment last month.

I started to leash train her using several different methods, and it all ended up the same--I would be tired and frustrated and so would she. Walking had become a dreaded obligation; however, I knew she needed exercise so I couldnt simply stop walking her, despite the fact I was almost in tears at the end of our walk because my arm was so sore. I had thought about buying this collar before, but decided against it because it was so expensive and I didnt want to invest in something that didnt "work" like I'd been doing. However, It came to the point last week where my dog saw a bird, took off, and pulled me accross the mud in a movie-scene-quality stunt. That was it.

When taking the collar out of the package it seemed a little complex, but took me less than 2 minutes to fit it on my dog--it has picture instructions included. I was scared of the leash at first because it was so thin compared to my super-thick-double-stitched-nylon leash I'd been using, I figured my dog would snap it within seconds. Oh, was I DEAD wrong!

On the FIRST walk she'd try to pull, I'd yank very quickly and lightly on the leash then she was at my side. Just like that, with hardly any effort. It probably took me 5-6 quick pulls before she walked at my side entirely, like you see really WELL trained dogs doing. It was amzing, there was actually slack on the leash and I barely noticed she was on the other side!!

After a 3 walks, many birds, bikers, and other dogs passed us by and my dog walked right next to me--I didnt have to pull one time.

Just a breif thoughts to some of the negative reviews: They really made me nervous when I first read them. The worst was wondering if it was humane to use a collar like this--would I be choking my dog or injuring her? After using it: NO! Anyone who thinks differently should try it. She barely seemed to notice when I tugged on the leash--Plus it has actually saved her a LOT of grief. On her regular collar she would pull so hard for so long she would make horrible rasping/caughing/choking noises that would scare me--but It was inevitable if I didnt run behind her keeping slack on the leash the whole 'walk'. Basically a win for both of us.

Also, this is not a "magic cure" It does work LIKE magic, but it's not a cure-all. This is simply a training TOOL, not a trainer. You still need to put forth effort and work with the dog, this collar just makes it A LOT easier to leash train than anything else.

This collar is great! It has made walking my lab mix fun again!! He is about 55 pounds and used to pull nonstop. This color has made him a different dog. I am able to walk him without getting frustrated and giving up. Definitely worth the money!! Also bought a large one for my American Bulldog who is incredibly strong and it has reformed my walks with her as well.

My girlfriend has the most stubborn dog in the world. He will choke himself to death on a walk and pull like a ox the entire time without ever calming down. Hes half bulldog and very stubborn and strong!!!!!!!!! we've used several tools like the face halter, easy walker chest harness, metal prong collars, simple slip lead collars (they just fell to the bottom of his neck and were useless). This dog collar really does the trick. I have a pit bull that likes to take the lead so it is hard to give her timely corrections with an ordinary collar. The Illusion collar makes it easy, the correction is timely and appropriate. The minute I put this collar on for a walk she behaves.

I purchased this (in a medium)for a foster pit bull (75 lbs) that I could not walk because if he saw another dog, he would pull me and even drag me to get to the other dog. As soon as I put this on he knew something was differentand now he walks alongside me like a good companion. He will still suddenly pull to sniff at something or lunge towards another dog, but now as soon as he reaches the end of the leash and feels the tension against the back of his head, he stops pulling. I even feel comfortable letting my 100-lb 13-year-old daughter walk him. Which is a relief, because as we all know, a good dog is a tired dog.

First this is not a whistle.. its an ultrasonic clicker. The buzz makes an irritating noise and there is a freq button on the right side to allow you to change which frequency it uses.

con there is no indication of what freq is selected for the human, so you put it up to your ear and cycle through them until you hear the click rate that your dog doesnt like. While it is ultrasonic, when close to your ear you can hear the clicks just like your hands feel the heat from a stove even though they are not infrared eyes.

The no-bark works, even though I was pessimistic with my german shepherd dog who does a 3 way call every night at 6 with the neighbors dogs

#1 you power it on using left hand power button and find the most irritating click frequency using the freq button on the right

now its ready

#2 you press power a second time. This puts it in auto mode and the tiny auto/power leds alternate

#3 put it somewhere where the dog cant get it but it can hear the dog, and the dog can hear it.

#4 in auto mode it listens for your dogs first 'grace' bark

#5 if the 'grace' bark is followed by a 2nd bark, it goes into auto correction mode.

The dog will soon figure out only 1 bark is allowed, then it drops to zero pretty quick.

There is also a training button which is highly effective. When your dog is chewing on the tv remote, press the correction button and the dog stops. If your dog won't go to sleep inside press the correction button and it will change its tune and calm down.

Overall the clicking is very effective and that surprised me. Its a non-harmful sound that irritates the dog to stop their action. Whenever the alert (clicking) is happening 3 leds (tiny) flash left center right center left to let you know its signalling.

The Havahart Ultrasonic Basic is dog training device that uses an ultrasonic frequency to provide a negative stimulus to dogs, in an attempt to correct unwanted behavior. It is a remote-shaped device with an auto feature for barking, as well as a manual button that can be activated when your dog acts up.

DESIGN

The first thing I noticed about it, is the ridiculous amount of excess packaging. The box is the size of a shoe box, while the remote is maybe the size of a small baked potato, and the only thing else it comes with is a 2 page manual. You could fit 4 of the devices in one box, and most of it is empty space, likely in an effort to consume more shelf space in stores and attract more attention. The actual device has a bit of an awkward design. It is shaped like a tube of moisturizing cream, with a somewhat slim base that gets wider, ending with a circular speaker. It's easy enough to use at home, but it doesn't fit in a pocket very well, and there's no belt clip, making it awkward to take on a walk. There is a power button on the side of the device. You press it once to turn it to auto, again to turn it to manual, and again to turn it back off. Seems easy enough, but it doesn't register your presses very well. I was constantly pressing the button, and then staring at it to wait for the light that indicates what setting it is on to flash (it comes on after about five seconds), and then trying to cycle back to the right setting when I realized it wasn't on the one I wanted. If your dog starts barking, you can't easily pick this up and use it quickly.

HOW IT WORKS

You initially train the device by waiting until your dog is tired or resting, then cycle through one of the five frequencies until you pick one your dog responds to. I have a young dog so he picked up on the first one right away. The next step is to wait until your dog initiates bad behavior, then do a manual correction by pressing the button. This will emit the saved frequency. The idea is that the frequency is annoying or unpleasant to your dog. When your dog barks or jumps, you hit the manual button which will send out the frequency. The dog then associates the unpleasant frequency with the behavior they have just committed, and will learn to stop the behavior. This is the exact same training method as saying "NO," hitting your dog on the nose, or using a shock collar, and is commonly referred to as negative reinforcement behavior. An ultrasonic noise is designed to be more humane than some of these. The auto feature on the device works only for barking, and will emit the frequency automatically whenever your dog barks.

USE

Finding the correct frequency for my dog took about fifteen minutes. The first problem is that you have to get the training device fairly close to your dog, and once he knew I was using it, he was very interested in it, so it was difficult to determine when he was registering a frequency. Additionally, he picked up on more than one frequency. I was finally satisfied I had the one he responded best to, however he was far from annoyed by it. He definitely heard it, but only registered mild curiosity with it, and I had to have the device about a foot away from his ear for him to do that. The problem with that is, even if he was annoyed by the sound, the action of trying to hold the device close enough to his ear is going to distract him from the negative behavior anyway, so this won't work. Since my dog is right at the required 6 months, and since the device advertises that it only works on 66% of dogs, I went off to find more test subjects.

I went to my dog trainer's class and tried it out on the dogs in the group as well as several friends' dogs. My trainer took one look at the device and told me it was never going to work, but I tried it out anyway. Out of fourteen dogs, only two appeared to be genuinely affected with the sound, and even those two did not seem to exhibit annoyance with it, but rather curiosity. If the sound isn't unpleasant to them, it's not going to be effective for me. After two days, the only one annoyed was me at having to spend so much time programming the device to find the right frequency for each dog.

I will say that the auto method did seem to pick up on the barking very well, and it worked to silence the barking, but not because the dogs were annoyed, but because they were distracted. One dog even appeared to bark more. I will continue to use it on more dogs and see if possibly my sample size was just too small (although that would be a big coincidence), and update this review if I find it to be any more effective.

CONCLUSION

I have studied both positive and negative reinforcement. I am a fan of the former, but find the latter to be more effective in most dogs. With Havahart advertising that the product only works on 2/3 dogs, you are taking a gamble on whether you will have any luck with it on your own dog. Even if it does register with the dog, I find that it's not enough of a negative reinforcement to eliminate the bad behavior. For training to work, you have to have a strong enough deterrent to eliminate the behavior, and it must be consistent. The Havahart lacks both. Unless you are trying to correct a behavior that you can predict 100% of the time, it won't work because you can't activate it fast enough. If your dog has a problem with jumping and you don't have the Havahart on and ready to go at every jump, he will learn that he can get away with jumping some of the time. I would advise anyone considering any type of ultrasonic training aid, to borrow one or find out if it works first before committing to it. If you can afford to spend a little more, I would recommend going with a bark collar or shock collar instead. Although some may think these are inhumane, I have used them on myself, and as long as you learn the appropriate way to train with them, and get one that has a highly adjustable level (like a Dogtra IQ Yard Training Collar), they will not hurt your dog at all and can be much more humane in the long run when your dog quickly sheds the negative behavior.

The Havahart Ultrasonic Basic Trainer is designed to emit a loud ultrasonic sound that is audible to your dog but not humans. The idea is that you can use the ultrasonic sound as a training device to deter or stop your dog from engaging in unwanted behavior. One of my three dogs was not fazed at all by the ultrasonic sound. The other two dogs heard the sound although it did not stop them from any illicit behavior. At most the noise may have been a slight nuisance to them but not enough to stop unwanted behavior. The trainer does come with 5 different sounds but this did not seem to make a difference.

I was not impressed with this unit at all and believe that there are much more effective training tools and methods available. Also, keep in mind that if you have multiple dogs and only one dog is misbehaving then all dogs may respond to the ultrasonic sound although it may not be intended for all of the dogs. If one dog is engaging in unwanted behavior but the other two are not then the two dogs who are behaving will be negatively impacted by the sound which can potentially lead to behavior problems if the dogs are being "reprimanded" for good behavior.

I do not recommend the Havahart Ultrasonic Basic Trainer.

It says right on the box some dogs will not respond to ultrasound. Mine didn't. I'm pretty sure if you bought it from Amazon it can be returned for a full refund. Still, I would make sure you know what the return policy is from wherever you buy this from. Many sellers, even Amazon, state shipping charges may not be refunded unless it is broken or defective. In this case, the unit is not either; it just doesn't work on my dog (pembroke welsh corgi). I would hope they make an exception based on the fact the product admits it may not work. Good luck.

I use this for my dog when we go out. This way she stays close. Shes not a bad chewer, just when very bored. She mostly pulls at it because its not long enough for her to lay down when I have it clipped somewhere like a shopping cart. The leash works well for what its designed to dohowever I think it needs to be noted that my dog has left tooth impressions on the leash.

I did contact the company about making a custom length as I felt a leash that was a few inches longer would be better. They said they would make it but would charge the price of a full length leash. As each leash is "hand made" I thought this was excessive since they would just cut it longer.

My GSD thinks it is his job to chase all deer in a sixty mile radius. This keeps him from getting away from us on our walks.

What a great leash for training your dog to walk close to you. The short length conditions your dog to walk by your side, and even at that length you're able to walk w/ a "loose leash". We have a big dog, I mean BIG. He chews through everything. He kept destroying leashes so I got one of these. He definitely cannot chew through this and if he eventually does it will be a long time from now and definitely worth the cost.

Simple Solution Training Pad Holder

Our adorable little beagle pup had a problem with seeing his training pads as play toys; a terrifying prospect we had to nip in the bud. Thankfully we came across this item, bought it and have used it ever since to great success. Granted, the instructions on how to assemble the 8 different pieces are absolutely no help at all, but eventually you can figure out how to assemble the lower and upper squares and put them together. The assembly is made out of pretty strong and durable plastic for even the worst of chewers like our own puppy and eventually they tire of trying to pull it apart. We've never run into a training pad that didn't fit within it, most often with room to spare. Best of all it got our puppy to stop tearing her pads apart and it stays put so she can use it when she needs to. Granted, if your puppy doesn't have the greatest aim just yet your cleanup may not be so much fun, but again, it's plastic so easily cleanable. Yes, it does have four pieces to remove to change the pad so it's not always the quickest, but the one piece section sometimes can be more difficult to remove than this, not to mention this comes in a smaller box which saves on shipping. We're totally satisfied with this as it helped tame our destructive little bundle of joy.

I had originally bought a tray, but it wasn't the size it claimed to be (if the dimensions says it's 17x17 and it looks like a rectangle...it's not 17x17). I found the tray to be cumbersome and it's just sitting in the closet. Got this one instead and am very pleased with it. My yorkie puppy was getting a terrible habit of chewing/ripping her wee pads apart. Not sure if it was a game to her or she was anxious since I wasn't home. This has easily solved that problem. The frame holds the pad in place and fits the entire pad with a little bit to spare. Granted it's in 8 pieces and if your dog misses....you have to clean the plastic, but same holds true w/ a tray. Invest in some cleaning wipes for easy wiping. As for the assembling, it's not too difficult and I'm sure you can glue the bottom part of the frame together if it really bothers you. I like that the frame disassembles into smaller pieces, makes traveling w/ the frame easier.

I use training pads constantly for a disabled dog. She recently began chewing the pads if they were left on the ground at all and would sometimes not make it onto the pad as a result of it bunching. I ordered this frame hoping to deal with some of those issues. It has helped significantly as it keeps the pad taut so that she almost always makes it onto the pad. The pieces are a little bulky and she has short legs, so sometimes we miss. The primary complaint with this product is that there is a top and a bottom frame consisting of 4 parts each. If you will be moving the pad around, which I do, they sometimes come apart. As a result, I have to be careful to keep it together. If I had no need to move the frame, I would have no complaints.

I bought several look alike training bumpers from Petsmart, same price. All three lasted a total of 6 training sessions. They cracked up and fell apart. This bumper made by D.T. systems can take a beating. My two labs play tug of war with it and they have done little damage other than pull the lanyard I attach through the hole in the tab.

It works in the snow and Ice. It works in the desert heat.

If my big dogs can't pull it apart it is strong.

I do not let my dogs chew up toys so I advise trainers to take this away when the session is over. My dogs idolize this toy, they know it is their fun toy. I may not buy another for a long time, because they last a long time, and I bought a 3 pack.

We got these at Costco, but same brand and size. Our dog didn't get sick immediately, but a friend at the dog park mentioned some issues with this brand so we looked around and saw mixed reviews, but most of the really bad reviews were old (2007 or so), so we didn't stop giving them to her altogether, although we didn't give her many either, although she seems to love them.

A few days/weeks went by, and then last week we noticed that she was peeing 3-4 times in the morning and in the evening, when she normally would go 1 or 2 times depending on how much running around she did. At that point we decided to stop giving her any of these treats, and within a few days she was back to normal. Since other people complaining about these treats mentioned renal failure, and urinating often is a sign of this condition, I'm assuming there's a direct connection as it was immediately after giving here these treats that she started having any issues/conditions with urination.

Last October I purchased a 3-pound bag of this product at Costco and stuck it in my panty until my French Bulldog puppy was old enough to chew it. At seven months, I unsealed the bag and gave her one piece. I could tell that she loved the taste as I watched her consume it.

The next day, she wasn't at all interested in her morning feeding (this never happened before) and she was acting very weird. She was making very strange postures with her body (in hindsight this was probably a mild seizure). Then I noticed that during the night, she had had some bouts of diarrhea out of her dog potty on my laundry room floor. I took her to her vet and she sent in a fecal test to the lab. (The next day, the test came back negative.) The vet told me to feed her rice and chicken and gave me a feeding schedule along with Fortiflor powder to put on her food to build up the "good" bugs in her digestive tract. The vet diagnosis was that of Colitis.

Unfortunately, I didn't associate the eating of the chicken jerky treat with this incident so about two months later, I gave her another one of these treats and like before, she relished it. The next morning, again she was acting listless and wouldn't go near her morning feeding. This time she had fresh blood stains around her anus. I freaked out. I went to the laundry room and there was bloody diarrhea all over the place. I immediately took her to see her vet. Again, the vet sent in a fecal test which came back negative the next day. This time the vet prescribed a medication for Giardia (just in case) and an antibiotic and told me to put her on the rice and chicken diet again. My puppy was on this medication for a week to 10 days (I don't remember exactly).

I STILL didn't catch on to the chicken jerky/bloody diarrhea association, so last week I fed her another one of the chicken jerky strips. The next morning, I saw that she had bloody diarrhea again and FINALLY realized the association between feeding the chicken strip and my puppy getting sick! I am 100% POSITIVE that the treat caused my dog all of her gastrointestinal problems. I know that she is NOT allergic to chicken. I googled "Kingdom Pets Chicken Jerky" and found all kinds of reports of people experiencing similar reactions with their small dogs after feeding this treat. I only wish that I had realized the association earlier, and I could have spared my little girl a lot of pain and discomfort (and about (...) in vet bills).

I read the FDA warning on their website, I called Costco to report it, and I left a message on the Kingdom Pets Voicemail. I also phoned the FDA complaint coordinator in my area (N. California) and spoke to the S. California coordinator who told me that MANY similar complaints have been made about this product. I wonder how many complaints have to be reported before this product is banned? If this was a "people" food, I'm sure it would have been recalled immediately. However, since it's only for dogs... .

The Kingdom Pets man called me the next day and told me that the product had been thoroughly tested and found to be safe. He did admit that he was aware that some dogs were not able to "tolerate" the treat and that those owners should just NOT FEED IT. Of course he had to say that so his company would not be culpable. What a crock! I just hope that my nine-month old puppy hasn't suffered permanent damage to her organs.

We gave this treat to our three year old border collie, and within minutes she began vomiting blood.

We rushed her to the vet and he could find nothing wrong with her. Her vomiting stopped.

We were not sure why this had happened. We suspected the treats but were not sure. Three weeks later we tried again, giving her a small piece. Same effect! She became even more ill and began vomiting blood! We rushed her to the emergency care for dogs and they checked her out completely. They could find nothing wrong. Her vomiting stopped. We will never give her these made in China products again. You have to look closely, when we first looked we say Newport Beach, CA and thought it was made there but more careful inspection showed it's made in China.

Your dog can't tell you if this is making him/her sick, they are a lot tougher than we are and don't complain like we do.

Ace is comforted by the sound of my voice & recording & I can monitor the amount of times he has barked when I am away. His barks have decreased dramatically since I began using Ricko. I found this product while searching for something that would help us with my barking dog. We've tried everything and nothing seemed to work. The neighbors were getting upset and we had to do something.

Super easy to set-up and use. I am recommending it to all our friends that have dogs. Finally someone has come out with a humane way to stop the excessive barking. Stores tried to sell us shock collars as the only "true way" to stop the barking that just wasn't going to happen. This is the solution we've been looking for.

DT Works Harness, Therapy Dog In Training, Black/White, Large - Fits Girth Size: 34-Inch to 47-Inch

I ordered another vest from the same vendor. It was a large and was supposed to fit a 34" at the small. When I got it I seen my dog was a 33" so I went to order a medium and it only went to a 34". I needed something in the middle of these two. So I ordered this vest. It is supposed to fit a 32" which would give him enough room to grow. Also this vest does not qualify for my Amazon Prime and the shipping was over 10 each time. What I actually got was the large vest again not a smaller one. Very disappointing. The quality is good though but as for their other products they are very expensive. Not im pressed for the first time customer.

Just bought 2 of these for my 2, rather loud, german shepherds. Both dogs barked alot. I noticed a big difference right away as the barking became more subdued and gradually tapering off to nothing. Now I hear an occasional bark then...silence! It took just 2 days!

I have tried several bark collars for my beagle and some of them worked ok. But this one has taken care of his barking. The other collars he would bark through the correction on the collar and I have only had to set the collar at level 4 to get him to stop. I also like that it doesn't give off corrections when he itches or shakes.

I purchased this product for a terrier-schnauzer mix (male) who is a great dog, he just barks way too much and once he gets started he will not stop. From day 1 this collar limited his barking to almost nothing! I follow the instructions and remove it for part of the day. I was also able to turn down the adjustable power of the shock to the lower settings after the first day. Easy to use, instructions are complete and informative. Plastic collar easy to keep clean.
