I needed a gate to close off an area with an opening of 55". It is easy to either move sideways or push into itself to go in or out. If you're tall it would be okay to step over. I'm 5'4" and can barely step over it when fully extended. Be aware that the wider the area to block off, the shorter the gate. The narrower the area to block off, the taller the gate. It is not very sturdy, but it held when my lab pushed against it. She does not jump so the gate works perfect for her. If you have a big dog that is a jumper, it will probably be able to go over it easily. It is tall enough that my chihuahua cannot jump over it. The only negative is that I did not realize that it has to be attached to the wall. It comes with four short circle screws for wood and metal, and four long circle screws for drywall. I used the long screws, but made sure I put them into areas of the drywall with studs behind, since I want the gate to hold. The sides of the gate come with four metal hooks/slats that fit into the circle screws, the top two which have a latch. It's not fancy, and the protector (brown thing on top) is cheap looking plastic, but it does what it needs to do. Since my house is filled with browns and golds, it blends in. More importantly it keeps my dogs where I want them.

This is exactly as expected. It's relatively inexpensive but works well and was very easy to install. It opens and closes easily. Would get again.

This is the one I selected as being the best value in an adjustable size gate. I'm using it to keep the deer off our deck. Even though they could jump it in their sleep, it seems to work fine. It moves around a bit which I think make the little critters decide jumping isn't worth it. I'm sure it would work fine for kids and pets as well. Its bare wood and needs priming before painting. It can be opened at either end and swings either in or out too. All hardware and a simple latch are included.

Havahart Ultrasonic Basic

First this is not a whistle.. its an ultrasonic clicker. The buzz makes an irritating noise and there is a freq button on the right side to allow you to change which frequency it uses.

con there is no indication of what freq is selected for the human, so you put it up to your ear and cycle through them until you hear the click rate that your dog doesnt like. While it is ultrasonic, when close to your ear you can hear the clicks just like your hands feel the heat from a stove even though they are not infrared eyes.

The no-bark works, even though I was pessimistic with my german shepherd dog who does a 3 way call every night at 6 with the neighbors dogs

#1 you power it on using left hand power button and find the most irritating click frequency using the freq button on the right

now its ready

#2 you press power a second time. This puts it in auto mode and the tiny auto/power leds alternate

#3 put it somewhere where the dog cant get it but it can hear the dog, and the dog can hear it.

#4 in auto mode it listens for your dogs first 'grace' bark

#5 if the 'grace' bark is followed by a 2nd bark, it goes into auto correction mode.

The dog will soon figure out only 1 bark is allowed, then it drops to zero pretty quick.

There is also a training button which is highly effective. When your dog is chewing on the tv remote, press the correction button and the dog stops. If your dog won't go to sleep inside press the correction button and it will change its tune and calm down.

Overall the clicking is very effective and that surprised me. Its a non-harmful sound that irritates the dog to stop their action. Whenever the alert (clicking) is happening 3 leds (tiny) flash left center right center left to let you know its signalling.

The Havahart Ultrasonic Basic is dog training device that uses an ultrasonic frequency to provide a negative stimulus to dogs, in an attempt to correct unwanted behavior. It is a remote-shaped device with an auto feature for barking, as well as a manual button that can be activated when your dog acts up.

DESIGN

The first thing I noticed about it, is the ridiculous amount of excess packaging. The box is the size of a shoe box, while the remote is maybe the size of a small baked potato, and the only thing else it comes with is a 2 page manual. You could fit 4 of the devices in one box, and most of it is empty space, likely in an effort to consume more shelf space in stores and attract more attention. The actual device has a bit of an awkward design. It is shaped like a tube of moisturizing cream, with a somewhat slim base that gets wider, ending with a circular speaker. It's easy enough to use at home, but it doesn't fit in a pocket very well, and there's no belt clip, making it awkward to take on a walk. There is a power button on the side of the device. You press it once to turn it to auto, again to turn it to manual, and again to turn it back off. Seems easy enough, but it doesn't register your presses very well. I was constantly pressing the button, and then staring at it to wait for the light that indicates what setting it is on to flash (it comes on after about five seconds), and then trying to cycle back to the right setting when I realized it wasn't on the one I wanted. If your dog starts barking, you can't easily pick this up and use it quickly.

HOW IT WORKS

You initially train the device by waiting until your dog is tired or resting, then cycle through one of the five frequencies until you pick one your dog responds to. I have a young dog so he picked up on the first one right away. The next step is to wait until your dog initiates bad behavior, then do a manual correction by pressing the button. This will emit the saved frequency. The idea is that the frequency is annoying or unpleasant to your dog. When your dog barks or jumps, you hit the manual button which will send out the frequency. The dog then associates the unpleasant frequency with the behavior they have just committed, and will learn to stop the behavior. This is the exact same training method as saying "NO," hitting your dog on the nose, or using a shock collar, and is commonly referred to as negative reinforcement behavior. An ultrasonic noise is designed to be more humane than some of these. The auto feature on the device works only for barking, and will emit the frequency automatically whenever your dog barks.

USE

Finding the correct frequency for my dog took about fifteen minutes. The first problem is that you have to get the training device fairly close to your dog, and once he knew I was using it, he was very interested in it, so it was difficult to determine when he was registering a frequency. Additionally, he picked up on more than one frequency. I was finally satisfied I had the one he responded best to, however he was far from annoyed by it. He definitely heard it, but only registered mild curiosity with it, and I had to have the device about a foot away from his ear for him to do that. The problem with that is, even if he was annoyed by the sound, the action of trying to hold the device close enough to his ear is going to distract him from the negative behavior anyway, so this won't work. Since my dog is right at the required 6 months, and since the device advertises that it only works on 66% of dogs, I went off to find more test subjects.

I went to my dog trainer's class and tried it out on the dogs in the group as well as several friends' dogs. My trainer took one look at the device and told me it was never going to work, but I tried it out anyway. Out of fourteen dogs, only two appeared to be genuinely affected with the sound, and even those two did not seem to exhibit annoyance with it, but rather curiosity. If the sound isn't unpleasant to them, it's not going to be effective for me. After two days, the only one annoyed was me at having to spend so much time programming the device to find the right frequency for each dog.

I will say that the auto method did seem to pick up on the barking very well, and it worked to silence the barking, but not because the dogs were annoyed, but because they were distracted. One dog even appeared to bark more. I will continue to use it on more dogs and see if possibly my sample size was just too small (although that would be a big coincidence), and update this review if I find it to be any more effective.

CONCLUSION

I have studied both positive and negative reinforcement. I am a fan of the former, but find the latter to be more effective in most dogs. With Havahart advertising that the product only works on 2/3 dogs, you are taking a gamble on whether you will have any luck with it on your own dog. Even if it does register with the dog, I find that it's not enough of a negative reinforcement to eliminate the bad behavior. For training to work, you have to have a strong enough deterrent to eliminate the behavior, and it must be consistent. The Havahart lacks both. Unless you are trying to correct a behavior that you can predict 100% of the time, it won't work because you can't activate it fast enough. If your dog has a problem with jumping and you don't have the Havahart on and ready to go at every jump, he will learn that he can get away with jumping some of the time. I would advise anyone considering any type of ultrasonic training aid, to borrow one or find out if it works first before committing to it. If you can afford to spend a little more, I would recommend going with a bark collar or shock collar instead. Although some may think these are inhumane, I have used them on myself, and as long as you learn the appropriate way to train with them, and get one that has a highly adjustable level (like a Dogtra IQ Yard Training Collar), they will not hurt your dog at all and can be much more humane in the long run when your dog quickly sheds the negative behavior.

The Havahart Ultrasonic Basic Trainer is designed to emit a loud ultrasonic sound that is audible to your dog but not humans. The idea is that you can use the ultrasonic sound as a training device to deter or stop your dog from engaging in unwanted behavior. One of my three dogs was not fazed at all by the ultrasonic sound. The other two dogs heard the sound although it did not stop them from any illicit behavior. At most the noise may have been a slight nuisance to them but not enough to stop unwanted behavior. The trainer does come with 5 different sounds but this did not seem to make a difference.

I was not impressed with this unit at all and believe that there are much more effective training tools and methods available. Also, keep in mind that if you have multiple dogs and only one dog is misbehaving then all dogs may respond to the ultrasonic sound although it may not be intended for all of the dogs. If one dog is engaging in unwanted behavior but the other two are not then the two dogs who are behaving will be negatively impacted by the sound which can potentially lead to behavior problems if the dogs are being "reprimanded" for good behavior.

I do not recommend the Havahart Ultrasonic Basic Trainer.

It says right on the box some dogs will not respond to ultrasound. Mine didn't. I'm pretty sure if you bought it from Amazon it can be returned for a full refund. Still, I would make sure you know what the return policy is from wherever you buy this from. Many sellers, even Amazon, state shipping charges may not be refunded unless it is broken or defective. In this case, the unit is not either; it just doesn't work on my dog (pembroke welsh corgi). I would hope they make an exception based on the fact the product admits it may not work. Good luck.

As a trainer I try to experience as many different products because no one product is right for all dogs. This harness is a very good harness for walking a dog that is fairly well trained to walk loose-leash. I wouldn't recommend it for a hard-pulling, untrained dog. For those a well-fitted head collar or a harness on which the leash attaches to a ring on the chest rather than on the back is best.

This company just doesn't get it, though. They don't package any instructions or illustrations that give the owner instructions on how to properly fit the harness. It isn't terribly difficult to figure out, especially if you are a trainer who understands what it takes to control a dog. But, someone who doesn't have that type of education or experience might not understand which straps should be adjusted a little tighter or looser than other straps. They might not understand that it is best not to leave a harness on a dog all day.

The harness, itself, seems to be well constructed. I downgraded my rating because there are no instructions for more inexperienced owners to refer to for proper fitting, which is extremely important when working with dogs.

I bought an XL for my German Shepherd (85 lbs) and a LG for my Rhodesian Ridgeback (76 lbs), both have sensitive skin. This harness is soft and has enough padding and comfort that it doesn't irritate their skin at all. Being that my dogs are also male and are very active I love the sporty look of this harness. The padding of the chest plate on it is also soft enough and can be molded to fit your dog's chest as well. There's also a lot of room when you undo the buckles which made me happy because my GSD is a BIG bog and he's nowhere done growing yet so buying something that he can grow into is what I was looking for. The fact that it also reflects in the dark is an awesome bonus seeing that we sometimes walk our dogs at night. And I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about it touching the dog's genital parts because that's absolutely ridiculous and false. The harness doesnt fit anywhere close to the dog's genitals. My guess is that the reviewer was trying to be funny or bought the wrong size for their dog. All in all this is a great buy for your dog. Not only does it look good but it does its job as well.

I had read the comments of another reviewer saying her dog can now be controlled since using this harness. I wholeheartedly agree!

My 68 pound German Shepherd would exhaust me during our walks using either a regular collar or a Martingale collar. My husband kept pushing to purchase a prong collar in an effort to control our boy, but I refused to put one on him (he's 18 months old and a gentle giant). I could only imagine how those metal spikes must feel digging into my own neck let alone my furry friend. I know there are a lot of believers in the prong collar approach, I'm just not one of them.

The large EzyDog Chest Plate Harness fits perfectly (mine is black). I keep the front loop that goes over his head snapped, so all I have to do is slip it over his head and have him lift his right leg through the right loop behind the chest plate(easily done and he's almost at a point where he'll do it himself) slide the open end behind his left leg, bring it up his side to his back and connect to the female end of the buckle which is next to the d-ring. It may sound complicated, but it's not I simply wanted to detail the steps, and it has become a simple motion.

I think the chest plate is what performs the magic. It's quite substantial and measures 11" long by 3-1/2" across at its widest point at the top, is not irritating and does not impede his gait. I believe the pressure he feels on his chest when he starts to pull keeps him in check. With a normal collar, he would constantly pull(which was probably only succeeding in making his neck stronger and stronger); and if he spied another dog ahead of us, I lifted off like the Flying Nun! People would ask "Looks like he's taking you for a walk again?". Those days are over, thanks to the EzyDog.....my left knee, foot and elbow couldn't take the strain and abuse of the constant tugging anymore.

The materials are sturdy, especially the d-ring to which you clip your leash. It's even easier to clip your leash in with this harness because the d-ring is on the top of the dog's back, not under his neck, lost in the fur, as sometimes happens with a regular collar.

By the way, I had also purchased the 6' long Gentle Tug leash in red which has a stretchy 1' long band sewn into the red nylon to absorb shock for the times our pup would lurch forward or quickly change direction. It's the perfect complement to the EzyDog Chest Harness, though you can't leave slack in the leash or his leg will tangle in the leash loop closest to his harness.

EzyDog also makes a bungee type leash, an extension and a life vest. I've purchased the leash/extension for my son to use when he goes long boarding with our pup and will review it in the future. The life vest is on back order so I'll review that piece of equipment once received and we have a chance to go to a local pond for a game of fetch with his new floating Frisbee......our pup seems to need as much gear as a new baby!

This is a major improvement over our previous basic harness, which always irritated our dog's skin. This harness has a nice padded chest plate which forms to your dog's shape within a few uses. I bought this primarily for use with the Walky Dog Hands Free Bicycle Leash. I also use it for walks (recommend EzyDog Cujo Shock Absorbing Leash, 40-Inch, Blue which has really cut down on pulling as it corrects the dog gently). The Ezy Dog harness also comes with a seat belt attachment, but I haven't had the chance to use this yet.

The Dog Outdoors has many great youtube reviews on these and other products (this is where I ended up purchasing the harness and other items). Great high quality harness and would recommend to others.

Though I have not experienced any reduced pulling that other people have attributed to this product, it is still a great harness which is what I was looking for.

My Bull Terrier is about 40lbs and is always hard to find the right size for her because of her unique proportions. I ordered the Large and it was perfect. The straps are adjustable so you can custom-fit it around the dog and I have little worry that she can wiggle out of it. I think the quality is pretty good and seems to fit comfortably (other harnesses tended to pinch the dog or be too tight around her giant chest).

The only thing I would change is to reinforce the rings, my dog pulls so hard I have always felt more comfortable using harnesses with double rings or considerable reinforcement. I haven't had any issues with the ring, just sayin' it would be an added bonus.

If you have a Bull Terrier you need this harness. There is a little picture of a Bull Terrier on top, so everyone thinks it's a custom-made harness for my dog :) I liked the product so much I bought the matching collar.

Our headstrong, stubborn, rescue rat terrier responded wonderfully to this product. The different levels of shock have a good range for the most sensitive dog to pretty darn stubborn. I strapped it under my forearm and tested the levels to check the sensation before putting it on our incessant barker, yapper, jumper and newly self appointed pack leader. Level 1) felt like putting your tongue on a 9V battery as a kid everyone did that right? , 2 felt like a sharp pin prick, 3) hurts and feels like a shock, 4) is quite painful as in OMG make it stop! Our little fella responded to level 2 without a fuss or a yelp and after a few experiences of it responds to the "bad tone" as a warning and ceases the undesired, barking, yapping and nipping our other well behaved dogs. In 2 days he was like a new, well behaved dog without losing any of his sparkle. Highly recommended over the no bark automatic collars to break stubborn habits. The range of the remote to the collar is very good. The dvd enclosed with the product recommends this for teaching basic commands I feel it is a bit over the top buy a clicker and train basic commands by positive re-enforcement, this will build a better relationship between you and your dog. But if your dog is putting itself in danger or your neighbors are complaining about barking this is an excellent device for new behavior.

I recently purchased this collar for our Doxie. We were at our wits end with her behavior. Even though she is still young, she has been very belligerent with obedience training. I trained my Labrador with an electronic collar as well with fantastic results and I was so delighted to find this collar that is specifically designed for lap dogs and small dogs in general. I had no idea there was a collar for dogs this small and I didn't even look for a long time just assuming nobody made one. This has really been a colossal find. The collar is well made and very user friendly. If I had to make one complaint it would be that the transmit range could be a little further than it is. I find that she gets a little "out of bounds" and sometimes I am too far away from her. So if you are used to collars for large dogs, this unit does not nearly have that kind of range and doesn't need to for obvious reasons but I wouldn't mind a few more yards. All and all I highly recommend this product. It has the praise tone and discipline tone as well if you are timid with the electrical aspect. Our Dachshund responds quite well to just the tone 90% of the time. We are slowly reversing bad behavior and teaching her new things with ease now. As with most dogs conditioned by electronic collars, she simply responds to having the collar on her even if I don't actually use it her behavior is better.

We have a rat terrier, Tinkerbelle, with a great spirit but little self control. We tried this collar as a last resort and have been very happy. We only had to use the shock for a day and then the sound was enough. We don't even put the collar on anymore we just keep it in the living room so that Tinkerbelle can hear the sound.

Sometimes, Tinkerbelle attacks our other dog. She is very territorial. In the past, nothing would prevent the attacks. I would have to grab her and risk being bitten. The collar actually made her stop attacking. Every once in a while she will appear to be in attack mode and we just have to show her the collar and make the sound. She backs down right away.

I reordered this trainer after determining the Petsafe "small dog" trainer I received was too big and bulky for my 12# Chihuahua. This product is VERY well suited for a really small dog. Short on features found on the larger dog trainers, but quite adequate. No quick release buckle, but still easily removed. Fits snugly against neck since the collar strap goes AROUND it. Good overall design, apparently good tech support from manufacturer.

D'oh! Dummy me! First training use directed at using the #1 (shock) setting. I inadvertantly held the transmitter upside down and pressed the #4 (highest) control setting. My poor dog went a foot straight up with a yelp. (**Hanging head in shame**) Future training postponed 'till tomorrow. I can tell 'ya it works.

Update: The dogs respond to the non-shock "bad dog" tone just fine now. In fact,their behavior is enhanced by just having the collar on even if turned off.

I know that is a strange title for this review... but I was really hesitant to purchase these training collars because of the huge discrepancy between the 5-star reviews and the 1-star reviews. And who knows which of these reviews is by a real person and which is by a competing company? Well I am a real person from Omaha Nebraska, and I am giving 4 stars... and here is why:

The collars require a minimal amount of assembly when they arrive which I had no problem with. It helped me to see how they worked. The instructions for use are a little vague and contain some rather funny 'engrish' (who wants to give their dogs "socks" to reward them for good behavior?)... but then again, I rarely read instructions anyway I'm more of a "try it and see" kind of person.

The remote control for the collars is a bit on the large side (like a 2004 cell phone)... and the buttons are numbered 1-6, with 1, 2, &3 controlling one collar... and 4, 5, &6 controlling the other collar. And then there is a small button between the two columns. This small button is the only means of using a non-shocking correction for the dogs... and it BUZZES both of their collars with a noisy-vibration (no pain). Buttons 1 & 4 are the lowest setting of Shock-Correction, 2&5 are mid-level, and 3&6 are the highest shock setting. I do wish that there was an option to use the "BUZZING-Non-Shock" setting on each dog individually... and that is the only real reason that I am giving this product a 4 instead of a 5. Well, that and the slightly over-sized remote control.

The antenna on the remote has a rubber piece over the metal coil that slid off a bit too easily for my liking, so I just put a dab of hot-glue at the base to hold it in place. Worked great.

The collars are just your basic adjustable click-collars, easy on, easy off. I don't know that they are top-notch quality, but even if they did break you could just mount the shock-devices onto your dog's current collar. They appear to be very versatile little receiver boxes. Oh any by little I mean like the size of the transformer end of a cell phone charger. The shock-boxes are a great size for dogs over 15 pounds. I think it might be a bit big for really little dogs... but I could be wrong. My friend who has a Yorkie and a Wheaten Terrier ordered these collars too (on my suggestion) last week... so I guess we'll find out if they are good for smaller dogs too. The prongs that deliver the shock came with rubber stoppers to put over the end of them to keep the metal from rubbing the dogs' necks. The rubber doesn't interfere with the shock though.

I have 2 Blue Heelers. One male 1 year old. One female 2 years old. They looooove to bark for no apparent reason. Not anymore. I give them one verbal warning... followed by one BUZZ (if they are both barking), and then use the lowest SHOCK setting and it corrects their behavior immediately. I have only had to use the lowest Shock setting for barking problems. There is an obnoxious woman who parks right outside my house everyday and then takes her time unloading her fat Beagle to take it for a walk, all the while looking annoyed that my dogs are barking at her.... and no amount of yelling ever worked to get them to stop barking when that idiot was standing 10 feet away with her dog for 5 minutes getting his leash adjusted, locking her car, tying her shoes, etc... But not anymore. They bark, I say "No Bark"... and if they bark again, I use the collars to correct them and they just stop. It's amazing.

My other problem is that there is a 5 foot gap between the gate to their fenced-in yard and the door to my house. While traveling this 5 foot gap there has been a rare issue with them taking off to the apartment complex across the street... especially if there is a cat to chase. My female dog took off 3 days after I got the collars.... I yelled for her to come back nothing. I hit her with a 1-Shock and she turned her head to look at me but just kept going. I hit her with a 2-shock and she skidded almost to a stop and looked at me, but just kept going... at this point she was across the street and about 40 feet away... I hit her with a 3-3-Shock (all the while yelling at her to come back) and she turned around in mid-run and raced back to me as if to say, "Holy smoke, I don't know what is going on over in that apartment complex but you should not go over there!" and she hasn't tried to run up there again.

All in all, I love these collars. It has greatly reduced the amount of completely ineffective yelling that I was doing with my dogs... and they seem to understand better what is expected of them now. Do I like shocking my dogs? No. But it was getting to the point that I was going to have to get rid of them because my neighbors were complaining about the barking. And for the 1/2 the price of a collar at the big-box pet stores I got 2 collars that work great. And I know that I haven't had the collars for very long... and maybe they won't be very good long-term performers, but frankly for the price I paid I feel like I've already gotten my money's worth. And there has been no evidence thus far that they won't continue to perform well into the future.

1. The Remote is powered by a 9 volt battery. I have only had the remote for 12 days, and it still works with the provided battery. Time will tell how long the 9 volt works. Good news is I can get a 9 volt battery anywhere. No need to go to a specialty battery shop.

2. The collars shut off if the dog isn't moving around. I like this feature. It reduces the need for daily recharging. I have only recharged the collars once since I got them and they never did quit working. I just wanted to make sure that they were ready when needed. They sent a charger along that you can plug into the wall or into a USB port. Works great so far.

3. There is a small red light visible when the collar is on... so if the dog doesn't seem to respond, I guess you need to check to see that the light is on. I have not had this issue.

I've had this product for a few weeks now, and so far I've been extremely pleased with it. We have two long-haired medium-sized dogs (55 and 65 lbs). We use the training collars on trail walks where there are many temptations (animals, scents) to run off, which they have repeatedly done in the past. Treats were not enough to make them listen to us. The training collars work like a charm, however. The shock is not too strong. We have an invisible fence (w/ different collars) where the shock makes them yelp. They do not make any sound when I need to use the shock for these training collars, but it is just enough to make them listen and stop running off. It makes them much more attentive toward us in general, too. I rarely have to use the shock anymore now. Rather, I can use the vibration feature to warn them when they get too far, which has also worked well. I wish I had bought this product a long time ago. We take them for more walks now that it is less of a hassle with not having to deal with them on the leash, and I think the dogs really enjoy having more freedom to roam while they walk with us. The batteries have been good so far; I haven't had to charge them yet except for the initial charging. I'm assuming the auto-off feature is helping a good deal with the battery life. I haven't tested the collars at 300 ft, but it has worked from at least 200 ft for me. Overall, I would highly recommend this product. It is really a great value, especially for the low price (compared to other training collars on the market).

Bought this for my two dogs who go nuts when someone walks by our fence, especially with a dog.

The big one responded immediately to the vibration did not need to use the shock at all. The smaller one was a bit more determined, but the first level of shock got the message through.

Hopefully, they will remember and we will be done with the collar. Totally worth the expense if that is true!

Recommend the collar for those dogs for whom positive reinforcement does not seem to do the trick completely. Fast training.

Received the unit promptly and it works as advertised. The battery in the remote was inserted inverted (to save the juice, no doubt) so I had to remove, turn and reinstall. The rechargeable battery on the collar needed recharging, but once recharged, the unit worked well. The instructions are in broken English, but mostly comprehensible.

The remote control controls two separate units each of which can be attached to a collar to fasten around a dog's neck. The electrodes that conduct the shock are covered with rubber tips (attached). The central button causes the electrodes to vibrate, which is not painful. There are then three buttons on each side of the unit, the three on the left controlling one unit and the three on the right controlling the other unit. Each button corresponds to an increasingly severe shock. Pressing the button causes a shock a few seconds long -it is not possible to give a brief shock by pressing the button briefly. Putting my hand on the unit to test it, I found that the lowest level of shock was painful and caused me to remove my hand and exclaim. At the highest level of shock, I had difficulty keeping my hand on the unit through the entire shock and my hand still hurt a half hour later.

The severity of the lowest level of shock surprised me and I do not think I will use it on my dog. It is substantially harsher than other forms of light correction such as a leash correction or a light smack on the nose with two fingers. This is the only reason I do not give the product five stars -in the end, I cannot use it for the intended purpose.

LATER: I purchased a more expensive ecollar with eight settings instead of the three on this one. This allowed me to give a buzz to my dog that is *not* painful.

come immediately when I use the vibrate button I haven't had to use the shock buttons at all. It was really funny watching myself and my son shock ourselves to make sure it wasn't to much of a charge for the dogs! but like I said we have not needed to use anything but the vibrate button. Although this worked immediately on Tux, I didn't use it at first because it seemed to go off randomly. Finally, in frustration (with 4 dogs moving in next door), I analyzed it and discovered it was the tags on his regular collar setting it off. Took off that collar and now PEACE & QUIET in my house. Tux would set my other dogs off barking, very unpleasant. Now, even when the new 4 "go off" at every car that drives by, my dogs just look over and wonder what the fuss is. Tux has finally learned that barking must be limited or he gets the collar on, so he's quiet most of the time I only let him bark when we're playing now.

I'd like to point out that the sonic noise itself is what he hates and this is the first thing that has worked. I tried shock (which just made him whine loud enough to keep getting a shock, and scarred his neck); citronella (worked for a week); 2 other sonic devices that just didn't have the right sound to shut Tux up; and a boat horn (which worked but only when I could find it and also punished the other dogs!). This one makes the dog wearing it suffer even if he's not the one barking but doesn't seem to bother the other dogs. So Tux has learned to run away if one of the other dogs barks, which actually quiets them all down.

We had complaints from our neighbors and after trying a tone based bark arrestor, we decided to hesitantly step up to this one that shocks if the dog continues to bark after receiving the high pitched sound. But, when I put it on him, it started shocking him without a peep from anyone or anything. The poor dog didn't know what to do while it shocked his neck and I tried to remove it in a panic. He was pretty stressed. It seems like a great product, I hope they have the bugs out of it.

I had a horrible experience with this collar! Here is my horror story:

My 2 yr old pitbull is a barker and I felt like I tried everything to stop this just short of professional training. I bought the citronella collar and he just barked numerous times until the sprayer was empty. The whole room would be filled with citronella and made us all gag. I felt I needed something stronger.

I was moving into a new place and bought this shock collar as a last resort. I did not want the upstairs landlords to kick me out or dislike me and my dog because my dog barked all day at every little sound!

I put the collar on and the first time he barked, it warned him as it was supposed to with a high pitch sound. He got scared but the warning did not scare him enough for him to stop barking. The collar, again, worked as it was supposed to and shock him at this point. The shock freaked him out. It freaked me out to see his reaction to being shocked. But maybe I was just being a baby about it because he is my baby.

I decided to keep with it because in the end I needed him to stop unnecessarily barking.

He barked again a few minutes later, like I knew he would, and there was no warning sound, he just got shocked. This sent him into a freaked out mode! He whined and winced like he was hurt. I couldn't take putting him through this anymore and went over to him to take the collar off.

At this point, as I was trying to unlatch the collar, I happened to answer loudly to my cousin's question from across the room and just the sound of my voice (which is not anything like a dog bark) set the collar off. Since my dog was already panicked from the last shock, this shock made him get defensive.

He was running up and down the room, screeching, barking and whining! and each of every time he made a sound, the collar shocked him!!!

I was horrified!!!

Now I am in tears chasing him around the room to hold him down and get this friggin collar off him! The whole time the collar is continuously shocking him!!!

Need less to say, my dog was so freaked out and in defense mode, he ended up biting me because he wasn't understanding what was going on.

I had to go to the hospital to get 10 stitches in my hand all because this collar malfunctioned over my voice!!!!!

I would NEVER EVER recommend anyone getting their pet a shock collar, no matter the circumstances! ESP NOT THIS COLLAR!!!

We have two Mt. Cur dogs, who love to bark and unfortunately they love to bark for no reason! We have tried the sonic collars (don't waste your time), especically if your dog is the type of breed that is strong willed. We placed the Terminator 2 on the older dog (2yrs) and and after the 3rd bark....we had a quiet dog. She totally got the connection between barking and the zap. We then place the collar on the younger dog (8 months), and it only took one bark...and now we had two quiet dogs. We love this training tool.
