Spiked Training Collar - Large

This collar was nicer than I expected and I got good results for my head strong dog. The thing I did not like is that the clasp to open or close the collar was very difficult for me to operate. It was just too hard for my "weak" fingers. I had to use a pair of pliars, but ended up putting a easier to use clasp onto the one originally on the collar. It was easy to shorten the collar for my dog's smaller size neck just by simply removing a few links.

I have an 85 lb Australian Shepard that is very hard to keep under control with a standard choke collar. This one works great. He knows when it goes on and doesn't fight it so I rarely have to cinch it on him.

I would recommend this collar, especially for smaller Women or children, who have a large dog. Nothing worse than being dragged down the street if your dog sees something he has to check out.... it won't happen with this collar on.

BTW the collar is not "cruel", it does not stick through their skin, just uncomfortable to fight.

The pads are absorbent BUT we don't think we will order them again because this is the 3rd time we've ordered and each order smells Very musty. Not of the impregnated attractant scent in the pads but of moldy mustiness like the warehouse in which they are stored has issues. The closet smells disgusting and the puppy area smells so musty it overtakes the kitchen. Not appetizing on any level. Price is good but can't live with disgusting smell any longer.

Mendota Products Double Braid Collar

I wish I had found this collar when I first got my dog. Super high quality overall. The webbing allows for perfect fit for different situations. I also love the color combos, I got camo with a matching leash and it looks amazing on my Fawn Boxer mix. Both leash and collar have equestrian quality hardware, at first I didn't think I would like the brass color, but it is so much richer! It's obvious at first glance that these "ain't no" Petco collars (no offense). Look no further....I can't wait to pick out my next combo!

My first reaction is that it did not have the pre-existing holes for the buckle to go through, and that it was difficult to push through the braid to make a hole if the dog was struggling--new dog, always a struggle! I like the color, I think the nylon braid will be strong enough to hold up to my kooky struggling hound, but he has already discovered that the collar is stretchy and he can back out of it even with his honkin' big ears, and even if I buckle it kind of tight.

Next time I think I will go back to a plastic pinch buckle: no holes to fuss with, it always goes on at the same length, and there is no tail end sticking out for him to discover and chew on.

Himalayan Mixed Dog Chew, 11-1/2-Ounce, 3-Piece

I used to love giving my dog (shiba inu) these chews. They lasted for hours and I thought they were the best chew ever. I read that it was safe from numerous sites, including this one. However my dog eventually learned to take big chunks off the chew. I didn't think much of it until we started to realize the dog was getting sick and throwing up. Her vomit was yellowish and she was constipated. I started to notice chunks of "hard stuff" in her poo. Then she started vomiting up chunks of the chew. I examined the chunks from the vomit carefully and noticed that it was indeed the Himalayan Dog Chew but it looked like it has been in her GI track for days. Thankfully, she didn't have a full intestinal blockage just a partial but still not an experience I would wish on any dog lover.

If you're going to give your dog these chews then watch them carefully and make sure they don't bite off chunks. If they do then take it away immediately. It's just not worth it.

I have a 7 month old cavapoo, he is about 19 pounds. I have searched high and low for a safe long lasting chew. I was at a pet expo and decided to give this product a try. OMG my dog loves these. It takes him at the least 3 or 4 hours to complete sometimes it seems most of the day. I occasionally take it away after he's been at it for several hours to give him a break, and then give it back to him later. I buy the larger ones, there is no smell and usually there are a few tiny pieces to be picked up off of the floor after he's finished.

My husky/GSD puppy loves her himalayan chews (we call it her "cheese"). She gets great pleasure gnawing on them, and a large one will last her a week or so. They are supposed to be digestible, but I do find 'bits' in her feces. They don't appear harmful though, and have a smokey scent (not unpleasant). I first found these through bestbullysticks.com, but now buy them wherever I can find the best price as they are rather expensive for what they are (boiled milk and lime juice).

My Lhasa-poo loves this treat (though my Cockapoo, who's more picky, does not). If your dog isn't all that finicky, try giving him/her this treat. It's long-lasting, odorless (unlike the bully sticks), and consists only of yak milk and lemon juice. Don't know how that could possibly taste good, but I do know that it lasts for days on end and keeps my dog occupied. I imagine that it's also great for the teeth. Highly recommend.

I purchased this item in December 2010 and have found it to be effective initially, the features are practical and usable however the battery for the remote is not a common find and will last about 3 months maybe less depending on how often the unit is used. Of late one of the receiver collars is not responding to any signals from the remote even with fresh batteries and additionally the static correction needed to be turned up to the highest setting for my pitbull (100) and he would just turn his head and start stratching his neck as though he had an itch, my boxer on the other hand is set to 23 and that seems to be enough to get his attention. Bottom line, good idea but at this point I feel as though I got what I paid for in that this was one of the cheapest remote electric collars I have seen and I suspect a whole lot less went into manufacturing it.

I have had this system for my German-short haired point and a rescue dog that we have over two years. We tried electronic fences, leashes wireless fences. Nothing works as well as this system they can run on our three acre lot and used along with voice command you have total control. I hardly ever use the electronic correction a simple beeb from the collar, once they get it, and they are right back where you want them.

I am a little disappointed that the controller only lasted a couple of years, but it does take some serious abuse and is worth every penny for the results.

I will say that ordering the controller is a little confusing because they do have so many models, so keep your model number where you can find it. Don't worry if you lose your owners manual though, they have down loads available on line.

all and all a great trianing aid

In March this year we adopted a 3 year old German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) from the local humane society. The dog had been a stray, so we didn't know anything of his background. He also had heartworm, and so had to be on restricted exercise for a few months while he received treatment for that. Having a high energy dog on restricted exercise is somewhat of a nightmare combination. He basically needed 2 hours of on-leash walking a day to get enough exercise for him to settle down. He's a wonderful dog when he has enough exercise, but can be a handful when he has too much energy. We called him the 50lb tow, as he pulled us up and down hills from start to finish. We tried different collars and harnesses, and while the easy walker harness did work, it also rubbed his skin raw over the course of a walk. Because he wasn't allowed to get out of breath, we had to take a hard line with the leash pulling. So, for 2 hours every day we were constantly fighting the dog, trying to maintain our calm and assertive exterior... which was difficult given that we live in an area full of deer, turkeys, squirrels and all manner of other things that GSPs just love to chase and get excited about.

During this period we also got an e-fence for our yard. We have a couple of acres around the house for him to explore, and he responded very well to the training for this system (which gives a tone warning one yard out, and then an adjustable shock if they cross the boundary). To this date, he has only crossed the boundary once, and that was the first day of training. Since then, he has been 100% perfect with not leaving his area. He will chase deer to the boundary line, and then pull up. The same with squirrels. Even the rabbits have now learned to stay the other side of the invisible fence (which causes the dog great distress).

Also, during this period, it became clear that I couldn't keep walking him for 2 hours before work every morning. Also, I found it difficult to keep calm after an hour or more of constant corrections and time outs. It became obvious that we need to at least try letting him run off the leash. But, while we knew that he was generally a good dog, it is quite difficult to get his attention when he's in mid flight. We worked hard in training and he would come when called about 60% of the time.

I was somewhat reluctant to try the collar out. I wasn't overly comfortable with the idea of giving a shock to my dog, and all the negative images that conjures up. However, given the success with the e-fence I decided that it was worth a shot. Also, we found this particular model on sale for much less than it's listed here, and it has a vibrate function.

I have to say, that since getting this handset our walks were transformed. He is off the leash now whenever he can be. To date we haven't had any issues at all. He love his walks, he has no hesitation in accepting the collar and both he and I seem to be enjoying the walks much more. After a few months the transmitter literally stays in my back pocket. 90% of the time he stays within my comfort range, if he goes too far then a quick call will bring him back almost all of the time. The only time I use the zapper now is for the infrequent times when he is being a little willful, or when he sees something that he just can't resist but a quick buzz with the vibrate, or a low level shock (level 3 of 26) will break that focus and get his attention back to you. I cannot recommend this product more highly... it has changed our life.

Small Slip Leash in Black

After raising and training 6 Labradors, I feel that this is the perfect solution for lead training, control, and gentle on the dog's coat. Slips on and off with total ease, and is thick enough so as to not choke the dog. I think it works best on larger dogs because of it's thickness.

I had used a training collar similar to a prong collar for my dog for quite sometime, but it got to the point where he no longer needed it. His flat collar worked ok, but I needed something that stayed at the top of his neck. This slip lead is perfect for that! It offers great control on walks since the leather piece keeps it in place. It is very comfortable for me to hold as well. It also shipped to my within 3 days of ordering it. I am VERY pleased with this product and would recommend it to dog owners who do not need a training coller, but still need a collar/eash that offers control.

I have owned this collar and transmitter for about 12 months now. We purchased it with 2 additional collars for our two new large breed puppies and an older 2 year old Catahoula. We have 10 acres which is fenced with electric horse wire. The dogs soon learned to hunker down under the fence and go roaming. We bought the collars to teach them their boundaries. All the dogs are rescue dogs with unknown backgrounds my wife is a veterinarian.

First the bad:

The transmitter supports up to 6 collars, however the more collars you add the less features you have. With 3 collars we are only able to 'nick' (a brief shock) or shock (hold the button for up to 2 buttons for a continuous shock).

The collars are bulky our dogs do not seem to know they are wearing them, but smaller dogs may feel uncomfortable.

The Good:

The transmitter has a great range.

The collars stay charged for around 2 days (we charge ours every night as a habit)

The transmitter charge lasts around 4 months before needing recharging

The collars are rugged. Our large puppies play hard together and they have never been a problem.

The collars have a big bite. The scale goes up to 10. I use 1 normally, but had to go to 3 just once when one dog got in a fight with a neighbors dog.

How we used ours:

Dogs are smart, and they know when you are not around, and will adjust their habits accordingly. We used discreet training, and not the usual method as detailed in the book. We were not using the collars to get the dogs to perform a task, more to stop them from doing unwanted behavior. I train my dogs with a clicker for wanted behavior.

Our dogs quickly learned that all fences are 'hot', whether they were electric or pipe or chain-link.

Our dogs learned that horses or cattle being chased can shock them from 5 feet away.

Our dogs learned that pickups being chased will also shock you.

Our dogs learned that vegetable patches are shocking.

Our dogs learned that aggressive behavior to siblings shocked you.

Our dogs now freely roam our 10 acres. They never go out of the property line without their masters inviting them to do so. They never chase horses or cattle. They play fight, but never take it further. They return home at my whistle for their dinner. They are happy and content dogs.

If you worry this collar is cruel then you are not thinking about it logically. An ill-behaved or aggressive dog is a liability to itself and others. My wife (the veterinarian) sees many cases were one dog attacked another member of its family, got hit by a car whilst chasing it, was shot after worrying neighbors live stock, etc.

Keep your pet safe, he will thank you for it.
