I have a 9 month old beagle mix puppyshe weighs about 50 pounds and is an extreme puller. Even after going through training and constantly working on walking, we still had problems with pulling. I wasn't expecting miracles from this harness, but had heard good things about it and decided to give it a try as I was getting tired of being tugged around by my dog. From the first time I walked her with it on, it was a complete turn around from previous walks. She usually pulls hard on the leash and is the one leading on walks, but with this harness, I now feel in control. Whenever the leash gets taught, she slows down to let it go slack again and is very responsive to the feeling of the harness. I am truly impressed. I no longer have to hold the leash with an iron fist, but can hold it comfortably at my side. Walking with her now is actually enjoyable. It does not change any behavioral issues, but is a good tool to help correct this particular unwanted behavior.

A trainer recommended this style of harness to me 7 years ago and it's all that I've used for my two active dogs ever since. They hold up very well and last for a long time. The only reason I've had to buy more if that my boxer occasionally chews his way through one when we are traveling and forget to take it off him. It' 100% keeps them from pulling us all over the place and allows me to manage two crazy dogs in a busy city environment. Best harness out there, in my opinion!!

My dog really loves these. I put them in a heavy sock, and tie a knot in the sock to keep it in. Protects the toy from falls on hard floors etc. Also easier for the dog to carry it around! I have a 2 story house, so everything goes up and down the stairs. Even though it is well past Christmas my dog still enjjoys listening to the Christmas songs and the talking on the ball. She spends a lot of time playing iwth the ball. It is also sturdy. I recently brought home 2 small breed puppies. I live in a second level condominium, so traditional 'out-door' potty training is pretty impractical. After a bit of research, I came across the Indoor Pet Potty Park System and decided to give it a try. The puppies took to it immediately... accidents and 'puppy gifts' went from being the rule of thumb to a bare minimum, greatly reducing the damage to our light colored carpets. The only thing that I have added to the system is an absorbent puppy pad between the grass pad and the rubberized mat. This has greatly reduced clean up time. I also strongly recommend buying a second grass pad. This has alloweds me to swap out pads instead of having to immediately clean and dry a single pad. Clean up of the pads is easy... they are machine washable or they can be washed in the tub/shower and hung to dry. This product is a definite must for anyone potty training new puppies or living situations where going potty outside is not really practical.

Puppy went right to it and has used it since I set it up. Still have some PP problems but poops on it every time. Easy to clean and I spray Lysol on it for a clean fresh smell!

D.T. Systems H2O1850 Plus Black Training Collar

This is a great product. My jack russel likes to run off and with this collar I can sound an alarm that helps me track her. This way I can know where she is and then correct her for running off. I had to modify the collar to fit a harness so she wouldn't slip out of it. The collar is actualy too big for my dog, but with the modification it works great. I don't have to use the stimulation hardly ever. She knows to behave when I put on the collar. She seems to be more obedient when she's not wearing it too.

I am happy with my purchase, the locator alone is enough for my dog and I to continue staying within 10-15yds during training and in the field for birds.

My one "compliant" which is more a knock on myself than this particular product, but I thought a vibration warning mode was included in this model. It appears that since I ordered the locator version, I lost that vibrate warning for the dog. My own fault, but as mentioned above, pushing the locator button is sufficient enough of a warning my dog is straying too far off.

Great battery life.

Lastly, it is also good for taking with to neighbor's houses also. My dog (Nico) stays close without a leash, very convenient and useful even in everyday.

Putting this to the test with about two hours of walking every day. I've thrown it in the washing machine and let it air dry cleaned up beautifully. So far, so good also like its adjustability.

So, a leash is NOT just a leash.

I love that it extends, and I LOVE the padded handle. We have a wolf-hybrid (around 90 lbs., but built like a mack truck), and he's (usually) very good on a leash, except when every other dog on the block decides to become a barking buffoon.

That's when the padding becomes a gift from heaven.

Given that this cost no more than a basic leash from Wal-Mart, and a lot less than a leash from PetSmart it is well worth it's price. My whole family loves is. We also bought a smaller one (for a pug yes we own a wolf and a pug) and my 4 year old had no problem walking the pug with this leash, being able to shorten the length to her size made it perfect.

Don't mess with the other brands. I tried a couple and should have just gone with the Gentle Leader first. It's worth a few extra dollars. I went with the deluxe version because it has the padded nose strap. Just make sure you take the time to watch the excellent DVD packed with the product. It is essential to fit the collar properly, and also take the time to get your dog used to it. You CANNOT just put this thing on your dog right out of the package and take him/her for a walk outside. You've got to put it on and take it right off several times a day, for a few days. All the while giving your dog treats and high praise. Make it a happy and fun experience. Let him smell it first if he wants to. Then let him wear it for a few minutes a couple times a day for a few days. Giving lots of treats while he wears it. Then after maybe a week, try walking around the house, and finally a short walk outside. He will probably try to paw it off. That's why it needs to fit snugly around the neck. Forget everything if you've used choke, prong collar, etc. NO jerking, yanking, or popping the leash!! Just gentle pulls with two fingers and thumb on the leash. Lead the nose gently and the body follows. It's great if you get your dog used to it gradually. Just like you did if you trained him to stay in a crate.

The Gentle Leader Head Collar was the first product that "clicked" for my smallest, but dominant dog. She's a poodle/beagle cross, with more beagle personality outside. Of our three dogs, she is the only one who walks with her head constantly on the ground, coursing back and forth, pulling and sniffing all along the way. She had obedience training years ago with a choke collar, which worked, but I won't use that collar anymore.

The head halter configuration works as well for her as it does for horses. Where the head goes, the body must follow. It took 3 weeks of gradually increasing the distance (with occasional rebellion and clawing at the strap over her nose), but now, when she has the halter over her nose, she trots along at a heel position, sitting whenever I stop. The comical part is that when I take the loop off her nose as a reward for good behavior, she reverts immediately to pulling, sniffing and generally ignoring me.

I'm very glad I watched the video. This bossy little girl was a hard case and I didn't enjoy the early walks very much. But I hung in there, and now we're fine.

Innotek Basic Remote Trainer

My collar stopped working after 3 months. Innotek doesn't honor their warranty unless you buy from an authorized dealer (which doesn't include Amazon).

The reviews so far have mostly complained about Amazon's lack of support for this product, but they have not touched up on the product itself. How did it function? How did it work until one reviewer said it "Stopped Working", which then followed the rant about about how Amazon is not considered an authorized dealer. So my attempt is to give you a very basic idea about the product that I have used for the last 6 months or so.

I have found the product to work very well. I bought a second one from Amazon because the first one I dropped the remote and the way it landed jarred something in the remote and caused it to stop working. I contacted the company and let them know after purchasing it through Amazon (I should have probably waited) because they sent me a new remote free of charge. Customer service was very good with the Innotek Company. Even though I did not have a receipt I was able to prove date of purchase and model number and they looked up receipt and took care of everything else. I got off subject about the company, for that I am sorry and will get back to how the product worked.

It has been a wonderful product. I have read the dog whisper's book as well as watched his leadership series and have followed his advise pretty well. One thing Cesear mentions is to, "Have a device that makes you feel empowered, but doesn't hurt the dog". I believe this device does just that. With the different settings you can change the level of shock and for emergencies there is a boost feature on the remote. My dog used to attack anything on 4 legs without fail. Used to pull me on a chain. After a combination of Cesear Milan and this remote I have seen a 180 degree difference in dealing with my dog. Every morning I put this remote on him and go for a daily jog around the neighborhood and am not fearful of other dogs or cats causing my dog to lash out (even a horse one time). This is also without a leash, I am using nothing but this shock collar. Mostly a voice command will do the trick to snap him out of it if he seems to be getting really curious about the other animal, but sometimes I do have to hit the button on the remote and then I have my dogs attention right away. I have not needed to use the boost ever, but it is still there just in case. My dog doesn't need a leash now due to this device and since I am consistent with discipline and using this leash every morning for so long, I have have began to make progress to not use it. I have been gradually not using the shock collar and he has still been performing well, probably because he thinks I still have the remote. :)

So far so good is the bottom line. This device has served my purpose and has served it well. It does make me feel more empowered when it is on him and the setting I have is pretty low. The dog is pretty big, so you don't need to put it on the highest setting. If I remember I have it on setting 3. The dog is an American Bulldog/ Beagle mix and weighs roughly 85 lbs. Hopefully this review helps you.

P.S. I do not think it is inhumane to use it. I tried it on myself just to see how bad of a shock it was. I didn't think it was all that bad. I didn't like it :) but as long as the dog behaves he has nothing to worry about. It is like a virtual spanking is all.

Worst money I've spent in a long time! The collar is TOTALLY ineffective in dog training. Range is very limited. The collar is not conducive in keeping the terminals against the dogs skin and the collar just flops around.

Perhaps an elastic collar would be better. This way the collar would keep constant tension and keep the terminals against the dog. The way it is though the collar is worthless.

I highly do NOT recommend this product.

Spotty Training Place Indoor Dog Potty

During Colorado winters I am often unable to let my very small dogs out of doors. I decided to try the training grass because my dogs like to shred the disposable puppy pads.I purchased two training place grass patches. The dogs did transition to using the grass without a hitch and things went well for about 3 weeks. I power washed the entire ensemble with heavy soap and disinfectant regularly. The problem is that with ongoing exposure to odorous fluids, plastic will eventually absorb the odors and no amount of cleaning or soaking will remove it. The pungent amonia odor became stronger by the week until I couldn't even change the puppy pad layer without gagging. I worked as a nurse for many years and thought I was immune to odors (this plastic training system is that bad)! I'd finally had enough and ordered washable bed incontinence pads used for adult humans, and they are working fabulously. They are highly absorbant and I can just toss into the washing machine when they become significantly soiled. No more odors! Bottom line, this grass thing is a pain to clean and will eventually absorb so much of the amonia that no amount of cleaning will help. Great concept, but poor materials.

Dog Tie Out Cable in Red Color: Red, Size: 10 Feet

This tie out cable is a great buy. It works very well for our dog. She is medium sized at 35lbs. I feel she is secure and it is light enough for her to move around freely while checking out the neighbors and eating a treat.

Natural Balance Dog Food, Lamb Formula, 4 Pound Roll

I've used this product for 9 years, ever since we went through puppy training with my dog. Since then, it's been a relatively healthy treat and a good tool for behavior reinforcement. I say relatively healthy because so many dog treats are full of wheat and other grain fillers. The Amazon product ingredient listing is for the OLD formulation. Let's examine the first 8 ingredients of that formulation:

Lamb, Lamb Hearts, Lamb Kidneys, Lamb Lungs, Whole Wheat Flour, Rice Flour, Lamb Fat (Preserved with mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbic Acid source of Vitamin C) Sucrose.

The first 4 ingredients are lamb, and so the inclusion of wheat and rice flour as the fifth and sixth ingredients, while not optimal, is allowable for texture. The lamb fat is perfectly good for a dog's diet, while the eigth ingredient, sucrose (table sugar) is not healthful at all. Presumably it was added for palatability, but as the eight ingredient overall, it might be an acceptable concession.

Now, check out the new formulation's first 8 ingredients, from the Natural Balance web site:

Lamb Lungs, Wheat Flour, Sugar, Lamb, Wheat Bran, Lamb Hearts, Salt, Rice Flour.

Only 3 of the first 8 ingredients could be considered optimal for canine health: the rest is filler or worse. Wheat flour and sugar displace two meaty ingredients in the top 4, and SUGAR is now the third ingredient overall. SUGAR. Folks, this is NOT good for your dog. They've taken a mostly healthy treat and made it sweeter, pumped up the filler grains, and even increased how much salt is in it. This isn't a MEAT roll any longer, it's basically meat-flavored Doritos. AVOID this at all costs if you care about your dog and keeping him healthy for a long time.

It's too bad that my dog loves this so much, because now I will have to buy a better, more healthful product, or make my own treats. SHAME on Natural Balance for junking up their product at the expense of the animals' health.

Agree with previous description of this item as "puppy crack". We have a 5 month old mini schnauzer mix who is happy to ignore us on walks, tugging on the leash with perceived strength of a small grizzly bear in order to reach the "OMG I HAVEN'T SMELLED THIS ONE YET" leaf 10 feet away.

We cut up pieces of this lamb roll (about 5mm cubes) to use as treats, and once he smells it he transforms into the "OMG OMG. GIMME. I'LL BE GOOD. GIMMEEEEEEEE!" dog we all wish we had. He'll follow right next to us on walks, eyes upward in hope/greed.

Tips:

Satiate yourself before you handle the meatlog, lest you be tempted to try it! It smells delicious.

Cut off only as much as you think you need that day, as smaller pieces tend to dry out (even in tupperware in the fridge) and lose their ultra-attractive smell. Alternatively, cut larger pieces and tear off smaller ones as you go.

Consider the 2.5 lb or 1 lb versions if you have a small dog. We have a 15 lb pup who goes on 3+ walks a day and we estimate the 2.5 lb log will last us several months.

I have no experience with using the meatlog as his regular meal as I would prefer it stay high-ranked on his list of "OMG AWESOME STUFF".

I first came across the Natural Balance dog food rolls while in obedience class with my first dog. She could be picky about the treats, but a few weeks into class one of the trainers tried giving a small piece of roll to her. She LOVED it and would do ANYTHING for it! After that I immediately went out and bought one, and have used it to help train my second dog, too. The best way for using it as a treat is to cut off a small slice (maybe a quarter-inch thick), then cut that into small squares to make them bite size. Perfect for dog training!

Another way I use it now is with the dog food. I don't use it as a straight feed for my dogs because it would cost me too much. I found what works great is adding it to their dry food. I feed my dogs Natural Balance Ultra Premium Dog Food and I use a grater/shredder and shred some of the roll and mix it in with their food. Even the pickiest of eaters will probably eat their food then.

I have 2 Boston's and they have been getting into my flower bed, eating my trees, and just tearing up my yard. I asked my friend what device he used for his dogs and it was about 300 bucks for a 1 dog kit. I found this one for like 104 but it has 2 dog collars. Out of all the cheaper units I felt this one would be the best of the low end. This is my first training collar that I've owned.

A few things that stood out was water proof, vibrate/sound option and 7 different shock levels vs 3.

I've had this unit now for about 3 weeks and it's been working as designed. I've only used the shock once because the respond well to the buzz. They have been a little better about the flower beds but that's still a work in progress, but it's been I think worth the investment. Before I used the color I tested the shock levels on my had as I wanted to know the power I would be pushing out and I keep it on 2 by default. 5/6/7 pack a nice punch! I think the collar lasts about 3-5 days I've only charged it twice. But I don't have it on all the time. At night the collar is off and off the dogs, but it seems like it lasts pretty long.

Water resistant-been really raining a lot since I got this unit. The dogs have been drenched still works great.

Works for the distance that I've been never had the dogs out of range.

Not really cons but just a heads up. One charger so at night I do the charge, if you don't need them on all the time you can get by but some people would want to have two chargers just to get them charged at once. The collars are ok the are a thick like plastic, I don't care as long as they stay on and the collar does its job. My wife thinks they are ugly but what ever. The collar comes with 2 different sets of prongs so if your dog has thick fur.

No regrets buying the unit, if I had to do it over again I still would buy this unit. I'm very happy with the product, I think it works well and it's a good quality.

The product arrived faster than I thought and it came with a case to keep it in. We used it the very first time and took one dog out at a time for our first time out with it. We found that our animals responded to the shock but set on the highest setting. We are hoping that they soon will learn the warning sound and vibration and won't have to use the shock forever. The shock is not that strong, even on the highest setting but enough to get the job done or it may be that we have two hard headed dogs. This is our first time using it on both of them and they both did well. I would say we are going to get our money out of it. Well done, we will put in another written review after using it a bit more.

Update, I would recommend this product. We had both dogs out again and one shock is all it took and the beep warning was all we used after that. We will be testing the collars every day so that these two 9 month old pups can play in the yard. When we adopted them from the pound we had to tie them out at the farm or just plain not let them out except in the dog run and now they can be normal dogs and enjoy the outside.

I am giving this product 5 stars. We lowered the shock to setting 4 and that will do the trick and we can now let them out of the house (while we stay warm inside) and they do stay in the boundry lines we set for them and only remind them with the beep.

after having this for my dogs for a few months, I can tell you it is the best training tool I have used for a dog. I now only have to tell them NO and they stop what they are doing and come to me. it is amazing how quickly a dog progresses with this collar. I think I have only had to use the "shock" part a couple of times before they realized when I say no, they need to stop and come to me. The only reason I din't give it 5 of 5 stars is that I am finding that after a few months the batteries in the collars are not holding a charge quite as long as they used too.

The range on these are not what I expected, but they do work good for the price. The only other thing is that the collars stay charged for only a few days. Other than that, these are great dogs respond really well and they seem to be waterproof right now. My dogs love the water and they have already gone for a swim with them on and they still work!

These have been wonderful to use while my husband and I have been training our 2 huskies to stop digging in the yard. My husband filled in all of the holes they had previously made about a month ago and we haven't noticed any new once since. I had bought the XS disposable diapers and they were too big. Then I saw that these came in XXS so thought I would give them a try. The quality was fine, but they were a bit too small. Also, the way my dog is shaped I have trouble with the diaper not covering the appropriate parts since the tail hole is not scaled down with the diaper. A smaller tail hole would help.

First when I received this collar the battery was dead so they had to send me another one. I ordered this from FaactoryOutletStore.com. The 2nd one didn't work properly. It would spray sometimes but not all the time. It only sprayed if he really barked hard...full throttle. It would also spray sometimes when he would shake his head so he wasn't getting the idea that it was his barking that was the trigger. I returned the product. Maybe it would work better on a bigger dog...I don't know. I wouldn't recommend it for small dogs. I did just see one that said "made for small dogs" so maybe I'll try that one.

At first I had high hopes. It seemed to work, the dog barked less. But sadly, the failure rate crept in. After just a week, it required constant filling to keep up, then failed. An expensive experiment.
