I am a dog trainer by trade and I own four dogs of my own. I loved the idea of this leash, also because I hoped to get extensions so that I could have all four of my dogs on the same belt and still have my hands free.

Well after purchasing this and trying it out on just one of my dogs I realized that I'm not so pleased with it. The elastic stretches so much that the dog almost comes too far away from your waist.

The adjustment on the belt is not too high-tech and I had to make my own way to keep all the excess belt from dangling and being in the way.

I hate the bungee leash it comes with and ended up using one of my own personal leashes. The bungee allows too much freedom for the dog to "bounce" out and then back. It's more annoying than anything.

I may try the Buddy System and see how they compare. . . .

I liked the idea of what the hands free leash offered but it broke the second time i used it and my dog only weighs 19 pounds. The clips that hold it together aren't made of strong metal and with little tension and pull it snaped at the part that connects your dog to the belt. the belt is quite comfortable and it does have pockets to hold items which is nice. for this product to truly work you have to add your own little upgrads such as putting metal clips on.

1/6/10 Update: So only a couple days after writing this review the thing bit the dust. While jogging along at a rather slow pace I slipped and came to a complete stop and when my dog hit the end of the stretchy leash the metal plate that the swivel is attached to went flying off the belt and smacked into my dog. Like the belt buckle, the edges on this metal piece are pretty heavy/sharp and thanks to the bungy leash it hit him pretty hard. Thankfully my dog has a nice shaggy winter coat so no real harm was done, just freaked him and me out. I can no longer recommend this leash system at all. It could be incredibly dangerous if it had managed to hit him in the face/eye.

I actually picked this up at a discount store for less than 10 bucks, figured I wasn't going to be losing out a whole lot if it didn't work. I ended up chopping off a couple feet of the leash because I intend to use it with a dog coupler that is about 2.5 feet long and it would have been too cumbersome. I find the belt to be more comfortable when I fit it much lower than they are showing on the box; I keep it down on my hips. The clasp for the belt is a very heavy metal one and can be a bit sharp so you want to be careful when clipping it. So far I have found the velcro that adjusts the belt to be extremely strong but I've only been using this for a few weeks. It is nice that the leash clips off in case you need some extra control and the swivel keeps you from getting completely tangled. I have been using it with my two dogs who are about 70 and 80 pounds and haven't had any problems with the belt breaking away or swivels snapping as I've read in other reviews. I probably wouldn't recommend this for someone with a very unruly large dog.

I took my dog out for a run using the new Dogmatic Freeleash for the first time and was VERY disappointed. We didn't make it even a quarter of a mile before the front metal leash attachment completely snapped off and I had to call my dog back to me. I don't recommend this product to anyone who has a dog that will pull on the leash. Even a slightly tough tug and your dogs off and running which could really be dangerous! I don't think the claim the leash can hold a dog up to 80lbs. is true, my dog is only 54lbs. and it didn't hold up at all.

Dogtra 1 Dog Advance Training Collar

While this seems like a great collar with all of the most advanced features of any e-collar on the market, I would highly advise you to stay away. The very expensive Lithium Polymer batteries die after a short time, and cost $70 dollars to replace. You have to send the unit back to dogtra to get them replaced. It is ridiculous to have to have lithium batteries changed this often. This is a poor design feature of the collar/charger and is unacceptable. I have had the collar under 2 years and do not use it very much. I would say I charge it about once a month. These batteries have lasted less than 24 recharge cycles, LiPo batteries should have a recharge cycle life in the high hundreds, if not thousands... I got about 20. I spoke to a manager at Dogtra and his response was basically, too bad, so sad, give me your credit card number. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COLLAR!

I really loved this product when i first bought it. From day one it worked great. However, within months the battery in the transmitter begin to suddenly lose complete charge, not good when your dog is running in woods. Thank God for the return policy of the large box store Cab#### that I bought it from. I returned it thinking it must have been a weird fluke, doh! the brand new one I exchanged it for was even worse! Battery would not stay charged and BOTH transmitter and collar would not even charge, on my way back to the big box store to return it....

Oh well, guess i will try a new brand....

07/07/2010 UPDATE well I returned my collar to Cabellas a couple of times now, luckily for me there is a Cabellas store near me and they will take my returns whenever for whatever reason. Looks like I will keep returning this every 6-8 months.

I have a 5 month old German Sheperherd (Ruger) who is in constant training. I have had him since he was 2 months old. Purchased this to start off leash training with my German Shepherd. He also wanted to dart out of the home every time the door was open and would force his way through people to do so. One correction was issued with the Dogtra and now he sits by the door and waits for his leash and I no longer fear him running out into the streets and getting hit.

I personally tried the unit on my arm before using it on my dog (I figure I should know exactly what he is going through) and honestly, setting 50 out of the 127 is more than adequate and equates to someone plucking a hair off your arm.

Probably the best investment I have made yet for my dog.

Also, compared to the other units, the battery re-charge time is amazing, 2 hours or less versus 14-16 on the lower end units, and the range is amazing for such a small unit.

And then we installed it and he was thrilled. We mounted the device on the back porch and into the woods. Our dog is loving being able to walk in the woods on his own. I think he really likes being out there without company sometimes. Maybe he is meditating? Whatever he is doing out there, he loves it. And so do we.

I bought this trolley for my puppy, back when he was much smaller. I had forgotten the weight rating, but I suspected it was time to replace it: sure enough, the now 67-pound puppy pulled the anchor out of the side of the house this afternoon. This particular version is rated for 60 pounds -so make sure you respect that weight rating, and if in doubt, size up!

The trolley worked well when the dog was within its weight limits. However, it only comes with one stop; if you need another, you'll have to go out and get a cable clamp. It shouldn't cost you more than a dollar or two. They really should include two in the set (especially since it would cost them next-to-nothing to do it!).

The Precision Pet ProValu crate would be the perfect crate if not for two major issues.

First the pros:

Very easy to setup

Now, the two major issues. First, I bought the 24x18x19 one door crate. This is the second to the smallest crate available. The issue is the height of the entrance to the crate. It seems extremely high in comparison to crates I've had in the past. I have a puppy and he basically has to jump in and out of the crate. When you are trying to crate train a puppy, this is a big issue. You want it to be easy for the puppy to go in and out on it's own. They should basically be able to step in and out, without having to jump.

Which leads us to the second big issue. All of the corners are rounded on the crate and most of the wire ends are on the outside of the crate. The one big exception is the two wires that stick up on INSIDE of the entrance to the crate. Not only was my puppy having to jump in and out of the crate, but his belly was getting scratched every time he did. This is a dealbreaker for me. I can't have my puppy injuring himself everytime he goes in and out, not to mention what he might do to himself while he is in there with these sharp wires sticking up on the inside of the crate. I though surely this had to be a manufacturing defect on the crate I got, but I went to a local pet store that had this same crate. They were setup in every size and sure enough, they all had the wires sticking up on the inside of the entrance.

It really is a shame, because I think this would be the perfect crate if those two issues could be fixed.

I discovered upon receipt that this collar uses the new PetSafe proprietary battery, not two cr2032 batteries as indicated by the seller. If you don't mind expensive batteries, no problem. I bought this one over several others offered on Amazon and elsewhere specifically because it supposedly used the cr2032's, which can be bought in bulk cheap. Going to keep it, but I am disappointed.

PetSafe, I imagine, felt it a clever move to boost profits by changing the design to take only their batteries. When these batteries die, I will look into changing systems altogether, or attempt modification of the receiver to accept cr2032's.

Before we got our puppy Olive I think I read every puppy / dog training book on the market. The Clicker Puppy DVD is a little amateurish, but despite that, it was probably one of the best things I purchased before we got our puppy. A few five-minute training sessions a day and I had Olive performing sit, down, etc on command days after bringing her home. Also, the DVD shows how to help you teach basic manners easily. Using the clicker is weird at first, but once Olive got it she would quickly start trying things to get the click and the reward. I used pieces of her kibble as a reward when she was a puppy. Using what was shown in the DVD I was able to use the clicker to train all sorts of things based on the confidence of how well the techniques worked. The DVD is the star of this kit, but the rest is good enough. I bought this for myself and later when I found out my Dad was getting a puppy I still ordered the kit instead of just the DVD. I plan on buying this kit for anyone I know who is getting a puppy.

DVD is very basic and not very polished but does provide good starter info. Book a bit higher level. Clicker was defective so e-mailed mfg. and they responded next day back and mailed a new one right out (two in fact great customer service). Amazon's price was best of any seller including mfg.

I liked that this came as a "kit" but in the end you really don't need it all. I liked the DVD the best, it showed you how easy it is for anyone, even a 5-year-old to train a dog. The flash cards are cute but they end up getting stuffed in a drawer. If it is possible just buy the DVD and the clicker (if there is any price difference that is).

Being a complete novice at dog training I was skeptical but with two new Australian Shepherd puppies and unable to afford training classes I was willing to try anything. As advertised the puppies responded within minutes of the first session. Thought I would put it to the real test and try it on my four year old mini daschund. She was a bit more stubborn but still responded in the first session. I liked how the training shown on the DVD was done with completely untrained dogs/puppies and used children as the trainers to show how easy it can be. The product description didn't clearly explain that some of the techniques are much easier with more than one person but so far I'm pleasantly surprised. In one week the puppies have quit jumping on people when they come in, sit on command and are starting to come when called. Hopefully the results in the next few weeks will be equally impressive.

But these are great leashes/leaders and,not only do they not pull, I have complete control. It doesn't even hurt their mounts/noses since there are soft cushiony parts that fit around their moutn/noce. Plus they came quicker than estimated. Plus they both even came with CDs. dog still wins occassionally, but everytime I put it on her, she really calms down by leaps and bounds. Just make sure you check the weights/ size requirements, my lab is 60 pounds exactly and the large one was too big for her, and the medium one is just barely big enough.

I have a Chow/Golden mix and I had a hard time fitting this collar. My dog has very thick, silky soft fur on his head and neck, which made the part of the collar that goes over his head difficult to get as tight as the instructions urge, allowing the collar to slip around a little and be less effective and uncomfortable for him. It doesn't stay tight either; it tends to loosen over the walk. I also have a hard time not catching his fur in the clip. The sizing was a little off; my dog weighs 55lbs and I ordered the medium, but then found the large was better. But once properly fitted, the result is great. He wasn't difficult to walk with a regular collar/leash except when another dog came into view and then he would want to immediately meet and play, yanking me all over the place. With this collar he stays calm and under my control. I just wish it would stay tight and have a safety tether to his collar like some of the other head collars do.

Bought this item and used it for a few months for our 10 lb. shitzu.. she loves it. The seams on the basket liner seemed sewn too close to material edge causing a rip in the basket. Contacted seller about a replacement but they were no help. Wish it would have lasted more than a few months boy they don't make things like they used to.

this is not safe for my cats 1 of them was able to escape in about 3 seconds! she is about 6 lbs and slender. there is a really big gap between where the zipper starts and where the fabric ends as it wraps around the pole. I measured and the gap is a 3 inches big hole. so this is not safe for small cats or kittens! the instructions on how to put it together were also wrong (missing a lot of information). also, I have not been able to even put on the 2 front wheels cuz you need to force a metal pin into each wheel frame and after many tries I have given up!

Not worth the money. The only German Shepherd part is the picture on the cover! the DVD only talks about the history of the German Shepherd then goes into a generic training video. Title is misleading and not worth the price. The video is very short and they have included some total garbage about a playdate which is nothing more than a couple of dogs being video taped. I feel I have been duped!

This starts out with a lady who is in such a big hurry fast talker and tells you little to nothing about training, at the end there is a bonus about some training but that's it hardly worth a dollar watch dog whisper your dog will thank you. PS the dogs running around at the end what a joke don't let the joke be on you my friend cause I told you so.

This is the 2nd DVD we got from this series. The first was the interactive puppy training and helped us potty-train our new German Shepherd. Over all they are interesting and informative and gives good detailed information on the breed. Plan on getting the Dog Tricks next as I see it is a top seller. The basic obedience worked good with our puppy too.

Though I agree with the other reviewers that battery life is short on this collar, it is nonetheless an extraordinary system! We have 2 beagles who are escape artists and rather stubborn and this system works fantastic for them! Training was a breeze both dogs figured it out quickly, even when we extended their area after 4 months of use. It's been now about 7 months that we have the system and couldn't be happier! We can rest assured that our pets are safe when we are away at work during the day.

For the batteries I read about this trick. Reuse the battery casing and just remove the little battery that is inside. I get replacements online for 4 batteries including shipping for about $8. That is a sweet deal! Look for "3V Lithium Battery 2L76 CR1/3 N 1/3N" batteries you can find them as cheap as $1.50 a piece. I simply removed the little plastic ringlet on the bottom of the casing that kept the battery in place, removed the battery, inserted the new one, and voila! Works like magic and is even easier to fit into the collar without the extra piece.

Don't let the other reviews about the batteries discourage you from using this great system. I highly recommend it.

The collar has a great design and worked great on our small dog for about a month; however, the company placed a flashing light on the model which eats the battery in about a month. The replacement batteries are specially made by the company to fit the collar and run about $10.00. Therefore, once you buy the collar to keep the collar operating for your dog you are looking at spending about $120 a year. The company has a slightly larger collar that does not have the flashing light that we use on our other small dog. Those batteries are also specially made by the company, but the battery lasts quite some time (over a year). Although our other dog is bright and once he got popped a time or two does not come near the boundaries. I wish I would have never bought this product.

I've had one of these on our little dog for 3 months now and have gone through 3 batteries. The dog gets close enough to the fence to make the collar beep maybe once a week at the most, and the dog is smart so it has only been shocked a couple of times.

You've been warned.. if you buy one of these you'll most likely be spending $100/year on batteries. You can hack the little battery holder apart and put in a standard CR-1/3N battery and save about $2/month, but it's not easy cutting the battery holder apart. I'm looking for a small 3v rechargeable battery I can sneak in there.

To install the fence and collar took a day of easy work, I have a bad back and was able to do this task easily.

The instructions give a five week training period for the collar and fence to have effect. Within 10 minuets my dog was trained,and will not go near the boundary of my garden.

We have 2 small dogs and tried these collars. We were shocked to find that the batteries would only last 3-4 weeks and cost $10 each. With 2 dogs, that is over $240 a year in batteries. The customer support is good. My first one didn't work, so they sent me a new one. The only problem is the shock doesn't really seem to have an effect on my dog. The vibration button works well though. If you have a big dog, you might as well spend the extra $20 or $30 on a nicer collar.

I bought this collar because it seemed great, and it really is a lovely collar but NO release clasp! You have to make it as large as possible, slip it over the head, and re-tighten it... every time. That's a deal-breaker for me, but I realize that it isn't for everyone. The overall quality is superb, otherwise; very strong and sturdy, and the designs are quite vibrant. If you don't need to take the collar off often, and the max inches would fit around your dog's head, it would probably be a good collar for your pet.
